Information icon Hello, I'm McGeddon. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Brian Murphy (actor), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. --McGeddon (talk) 09:51, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Brian Murphy/Zippy[edit]

The bare minimum for something to be recorded in Wikipedia is verifiability - it must have been recorded by the press, in a journal, in a book or some other reliable source first. If something was "common knowledge" for 20 years but we can't find a single printed source that ever remarked upon it, then the conclusion is that it isn't encyclopaedia material. This rule does risk losing some interesting minor facts, but drawing the line elsewhere ("if someone thinks it's 'common knowledge' and enough other people agree, then we'll include it") would lead to a very different - and probably quite self-contradictory and libellous - set of encyclopaedia articles! --McGeddon (talk) 09:04, 12 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
