Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better the quality of life at the Wikipedia through Kindness and Recognition of Users. It is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. All too often we get too wrapped up in our own tasks to recognize the hard work and determination of others. This WikiProject aims to correct that injustice, even if only a little bit, by making a conscious effort to acknowledge exceptional effort, skill, and commitment. It is motivated by the belief that a little kindness goes a long way, and in the end results in a better Wikipedia experience for everybody.

Hello helpful Wikipedians; I re-structured the contents of my user page yesterday and also used the 'hidden' facility to collapse a lot of lists under single-line headers for the reader to click on ('show'/'hide'). Although I saved my changes as I went along, the latest structure of my user page only shows all my changes when I am logged in; when I log out, my user page appears as if I had never made the changes in the first place. I find this rather odd, since all my changes were always effective immediately after I had applied them, regardless of whether I was logged in or out. Very many thanks for any clarification or suggestion(s) anyone might be able to offer. With kind regards; Patrick. Pdebee (talk) 10:18, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

I don't know the cause, but this happens sometimes. I have purged the page to give the servers a kick, which might help. If that doesn't work, you could try bypassing your browser cache - that's Ctrl-F5 in many browsers. -- John of Reading (talk) 10:33, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

Hurdy-gurdy comments[edit]

Thanks for your thoughtful comments on the Hurdy-gurdy article. I've responded on the talk page there, but I'd encourage you to make the changes you suggest. They all make sense to me. I have one question on the “imbalance” with regard to the Hungarian tradition, but I suspect that I'm just unclear on your feelings there since it seems to me that you actually want more information added, not some sort of paring back. But please feel free to rework the article. I'd say that 70% of what is there is content I wrote a long time ago and it is time for a good shaking up. If you want to add and restructure in the way you suggest, I fully support you.

Fenevad (talk) 08:26, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Also, thanks for the many small edits you made to the article. That's the most systematic clean-up it's had since I stopped actively working on it some time ago due to changes in job and family situation. While I don't have much time to clean it up now, I do appreciate seeing that someone else is taking care of it. It's much appreciated -Fenevad (talk) 08:45, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Hello '193.120.135.123',

I noticed that you added an external link to a fansite in the 'External Links' section of the article about Andy Irvine. I just wanted to warn you that it is very likely that your update will be reverted, because Wikipedia guidelines advise against adding blogs and fansites, as explained at point 11. in the list of 'External links to be avoided'.

I have seen fan-sites added to this article (among others) before, and they were soon reverted by administrators and their 'bots'.

Planxty reunion[edit]

Hi Patrick!

My name is Enricomaria. I read your interesting page on Planxty today. I was in Dublin for the Planxty reunion in 2004, a few days after the New Year's eve. However I'm pretty sure that the concet of the 4th of January was at The Point, not at Vicar's Street as you wrote. I think I still have the ticket somewhere. The problem is that the ticket, if still in existence, is at my old place in Turin, Italy, while at the moment I'm living in Stockholm, Sweden. Anyway, it's not so important and your article is absolutely great. Thanks for your contribution Enrimath (talk) 15:55, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi Enrico! Face-smile.svg
Thank you for your message and kind words; they're very much appreciated!
Thank you also for the correction you're suggesting. I will look into the sources I used for the Planxty reunion dates and locations, and then update the present section later on. Normally, I would do this straight away but I am quite busy at the moment and will be for the next few days. However, please know that I will definitely aim to fix this if I can, as I am always striving to ensure there is a third-party source for everything I contribute to the encyclopaedia. Of course, if some of these 3rd-party sources are wrong, then it's going to be tricky! Face-wink.svg
I also notice that you are a brand new user and made your first edit today, and to my user page no less! So, a very warm welcome to you and I hope you will enjoy your time here, either as a reader or maybe also as a contributing editor. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if your user and/or talk pages get updated very soon with a 'Welcome' message from editors who like to take 'newbies' (= newcomers) under their wings.
But if you look at my user page, you will see that I collected a lot of links to Wikipedia articles that provide details about editorial guidelines, such as the 'Manual Of Style' (WP:MOS); you can find all these links here. May I also suggest that, if you want some help in getting started as an editor, you can ask me and I will edit a few pointers in your own user- and talk-pages. You don't *have* to do any of these things, but if you're interested and have the time, then I'll be happy to help you in your first steps. So, just let me know, OK?
Finally, although I made quite a few changes to the Planxty article (and especially to the article on Andy Irvine), one of the essential principles of our encyclopaedia is that these articles do not 'belong' to any one editor: we all contribute what we can without any article ever becoming 'mine'. In my case, I just happen to have been a Planxty (and Irvine) fan for a long time and had kept a lot of reference material (mainly my collection of folk music magazines) that proved very useful to update the articles. I am still working on the Irvine article and the next tasks will be to create related articles for some of the albums. Then, of course, we need more photos but these are very difficult to include because of the copyright rules in Wikipedia.
So, Enrico, thank you for your helpful message and I will update this section when I have done a bit more research into the topic. Until then, please keep well, and enjoy reading my user page for useful links to get you started as an editor, if you wish.
With kindest regards for now; Face-smile.svg
Patrick. ツ Pdebee. (talk) 16:50, 19 August 2014 (UTC)
Hi again, Enrico; Face-smile.svg
I was intrigued by your earlier message and, after supper, I went into my dusty Archives Room (Face-wink.svg) and checked various sources. I am *very* happy to report that you were absolutely correct: Planxty indeed played three extra gigs at the Point Theatre on 3, 4 and 5 January 2005, which I had omitted to include in both the Planxty and Andy Irvine articles! I also consulted O'Toole's book who, in the two paragraphs (on page 323) about the gigs at the Point, wrote: "The next two concerts happened on 3 and 4 January 2005." He doesn't mention 5 January 2005, but the Tara web site still has all these dates advertised to this day, and they include "5 January, 2005"; so, I will also add this date (in both articles) until someone tells me s/he knows for sure that they did *not* play on that day and that O'Toole was therefore correct (i.e., that he did not omit it in error).
Once again, Enrico, thank you *very* much for helping me to correct this oversight on my part! Face-smile.svg
With kindest regards;

Why is a 'Div' column longer than it needs to be?[edit]

check-mark
This help request has been answered. If you need more help, place a new {{help me}} request on this page followed by your questions, contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse.

Hello helpful Wikipedians; Face-smile.svg
If you look at my user page, you can see that I have listed the articles to which I have contributed and, because there are many, I have displayed them in two columns, using the 'Div col' facility. This has worked perfectly for all my lists, except for this sub-section: Music (recordings).
As you can see, the vertical line created by the 'rules=yes' option does not terminate with the last entry in each of the two columns, as it does for all my other lists; rather, for this sub-section only (!), the vertical line continues for another two inches or so, and I can't figure out why. At first, I thought that some rogue blank lines were causing this result, but there aren't any left in that sub-section, or in any of the neighbouring sections or sub-sections.
It's obviously a trivial issue in the overall scheme of our encyclopaedia Face-wink.svg, but I am puzzled by this strange outcome and would appreciate some assistance, please.
Thank you very much in advance for your help, just in case anyone has come across this symptom before and knows what causes it.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk) 21:40, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Looks perfectly normal to me. I think the issue might be that the left column is one line longer than the right, making it look like the line is too long. In the "Music" subsection the opposite happens (the right col is longer than the left). Primefac (talk) 22:17, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
@Primefac: Thank you very much for your prompt reply. Face-smile.svg
However, I find it perplexing, and I wonder whether we are seeing the same thing displayed on our respective screens.
When I look at the subject sub-section on my screen, the vertical line continues beyond the last visible entries as if to allow enough space for an additional 5 or 6 invisible entries on both sides; this does not appear normal to me, hence my call for help. All the other sub-sections on my user page show the vertical line terminating alongside the last visible entry of text in the longest column (by 1, as you say, on either the left or right); that is the norm I'd expect.
Please may I ask you this: when you look at the subject sub-section, do you see the vertical line continuing way beyond the last entries ('Vên' on the left and 'Transatlantic Sessions' on the right), as I described in bold above? Or do you see the vertical line terminating exactly alongside 'Vên' (the longest, by 1 entry, of the two columns)?
Thank you for your input so far.
With kind regards;
Patrick.ツ Pdebee.(talk) 01:41, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
The latter; I see all of the vertical lines throughout the page ending exactly where I would expect them to end. Might be a browser thing which is causing it (I'm on Firefox Beta). If you want to re-open the help tag and get more advice, feel free. Primefac (talk) 10:06, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
@Primefac: Thank you very much for your feedback: it's really helpful to know that the data is displayed correctly at your end and that it might be a browser issue (it wouldn't be the first time); I'll follow up on that before re-opening the help tag.
Please also forgive this late acknowledgement: I have just returned home after being away for three days; hence the delay in returning thanks.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk) 17:26, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
@Primefac: Just to let you know, out of courtesy, that the columns terminated as expected after I removed the last entry that appeared on the left column: Vên. I still don't know why it caused the glitch but it might have something to do with the special character in the middle of the name ('ê'), combined with my browser (since we established that you did not observe the glitch with Firefox at your end. In any case, I am not going to spend any more time on this, since it's gone away. Face-smile.svg Thank you once again for your help.
With kind rgeards

Speedy deletion nomination of Changing Trains[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Changing Trains requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article has never existed, has been deleted or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. smileguy91Need to talk? 23:21, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello, Pdebee,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Live from Patrick Street should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Live from Patrick Street .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. • Hey, I understand the confusion. His first name is Juan de Marcos^ (the second part of his name, "de Marcos", is after his father, famous singer Marcos González Mauriz), González is his paternal surname and Cárdenas his maternal surname. His daughters are Laura Lidia González Abreu and Gliceria Lidia González Abreu, and his son is Juan de Marcos González Abreu. Since his name is so long he is commonly referred to by his first name alone (also, "González" alone would be ambiguous in the article). I hope this clears it up for you :) Neodop (talk) 22:21, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
^Compound names in Spanish might or might not include "de", for example: José Luis (not José de Luis), María del Carmen (not María Carmen).
@Neodop: Dear friend 'Neodop', Face-smile.svg
Thank you for taking the time to explain the function of 'de' in this case. I knew his father's first name was 'Marcos', but I mistakenly thought that 'Marcos' had become the first part of Juan's paternal surname, and that the 'de' was therefore used to clarify that his first name was not the compound 'Juan Marcos' (like a Spanish version of 'Jean-Marc' in French). In any case, I am happy to defer to your greater knowledge of these subtleties, and I thank you for your patient explanation.
Therefore, I fully agree with you about the use of his first name, 'Juan de Marcos', as a way of resolving the ambiguity that would result from applying MOS:SURNAME in this case, since we also needed a way to differentiate between 'Juan de Marcos González' and 'Rubén González'.
Thank you for your continued contributions to this article, like the recordings Rubén made with Raúl Planas. Face-wink.svg
You will notice that I have now also added the new section on 'Filmography'. Face-smile.svg

Disambiguation link notification for April 15[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Rubén González (pianist), you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Rubén González and The Telegraph (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
