License tagging for Image:Yeast.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Yeast.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 16:13, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Your recent edits[edit]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button Button sig.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 18:40, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Image without license[edit]

Unspecified source/license for Image:SAM riboswitch pdb-2gis.png[edit]

Copyright-excl.svg

Thanks for uploading Image:SAM riboswitch pdb-2gis.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

License tagging for Image:NcRNAs-central-dogma.svg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:NcRNAs-central-dogma.svg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 05:42, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Landes/RNAbiology[edit]

Hi there! I found you via this page after seeing a post on AN. We're putting together a wikiproject for reaching out to exactly that sort of new editor here, and I think you would be an ideal person to help out, and help coordinate us welcoming new people from the journal to Wikipedia, helping them to get up to speed on how things work here, and making sure that both they and Wikipedia benefit from their contributions. I'd love it if you dropped by the talkpage, or dropped by my talkpage, to talk about it. // roux   07:23, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Telomerase articles merge[edit]

hello, and thanks for the suggestion to restructure the Telomerase related articles.

but.. could you please add a discussion section at an appropriate talk page for this proposed multiway merge - and check that the templates are showing what you intended them to show, which I think they are not?

I closed a year-old merge request a month or two back because nobody'd bothered to talk about it since the merge tags were placed, and I as a layman thought the articles' subjects were a bit different - if, in your opinion, the merge is needed, I'd like to have your words about why instead of just leaving the bare merge tag. (merge tags have a GIGANTIC backlog.....) --Alvestrand (talk) 16:44, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Re: Felisa Wolfe-Simon[edit]

There is already an appropriate criticism section over at GFAJ-1#Criticism. Felisa Wolfe-Simon is a biography article subject to WP:BLP. Several of the claims you've added, such as "this paper led to a firestorm of criticism on the internet", which is sourced to an article in Slate, which in turn is sourced to a blog post which you admit "was published online" does not meet the strict standards of science and biography articles. In this particular case, such criticism needs to appear in a peer-reviewed journal. Viriditas (talk) 14:21, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

I was not aware of the Wikipedia:BLP#Avoid_self-published_sources policy. I don't necessarily agree with the policy but will abide. I'm sure the scientific literature will eventually catch up with the criticisms made of the GFAJ-1. You should add a reference to the advanced access version of the "in press" article. --Paul (talk) 19:11, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Magnesium sensor RNA pdb-2qbz.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Magnesium sensor RNA pdb-2qbz.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. –Drilnoth (T/C) 22:13, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

File source problem with File:SAM-PDB-2gis.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:SAM-PDB-2gis.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Xanthomonas sRNAs[edit]

Hi, I hope all is well in NZ. I orignally had the Xanthomonas campestris sRNAs in seperate paragraphs to keep the information about seperate pathovars separate. If you'd prefer it as one paragraph I can rewrite, but would prefer to make it clear that there have been studies on 2 different pathovars (Schmidtke et al studied X.campestris pv. vesicatoria, Jiang et al and Chen et al both studied pv. campestris). The article now implies both ground have studied the same pathovar. Do you have any particular preferences about how best to tweak this article? I probably won't do it until Monday. --RE73 (talk) 08:53, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi Ruth. Please do update that paragraph to better reflect both studies. I was hoping you would! It was a little repetitive the other way.--Paul (talk) 09:17, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. This may take slightly longer than a week to sort out. The Copyright Holder works in remote locations in New Zealand. I've sent him a message which when it arrives I'll forward to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. Navigating image copyrights is proving to be a dog.--115.188.129.132 (talk) 21:06, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
Let me know on my talk page when he sends the message, and I will work the ticket, in order to expedite it. Also, if you have any other images from that person, you might want to get his permission for all of those at the same time. Sorry about the dog; I guess you could say we're "doggedly" committed to free content. Magog the Ogre (t c) 03:26, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
Will do. I certainly appreciate the sentiment, shame the execution can be clunky. Thanks for your patience Magog! --Paul (talk) 03:54, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Paperpile[edit]

Hello Ppgardne,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Paperpile for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Trivialist (talk) 16:58, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
