My nitpicks[edit]

  • References should not be bare urls. Go to Special:Preferences and to the tab "gadgets." Check the box for refTools. Get the feel of the tool (it's very very useful). Instead of bare urls you should be filling the data out.
  • Adding a "Notes" column all the way on the right end; for an example see "Rumford Medal."
  • If there is a page you reference more then once, you should include the following code in the reflist (example Rumford Prize):
;General
* General Ref 1
* General Ref 2

This is so as to avoid having to do that in the right-hand notes column repetitively.

  • If there is ever a gap in knowledge, use {{center|—}}.
  • The list is pretty squished. I don't think the tuff units column is at all neccessary.
  • New: Good progress so far. Remember that notes need to be cited as well if they are stating facts. Also, invest in a seperate "Notes" column. This can be done by doing <ref name="a_note"|ref group"n">Note here.</ref> and then == Notes == {{reflist|group="n"}} above your references column. For example see List of volcanoes in the Hawaiian – Emperor seamount chain .

--OK, I see what you mean... I will change the column one to "additional info" or something.

Agreed[edit]

  • refs have been my biggest failing on wiki, I've been avoiding learning the proper way... I'll check out your suggestion.
  • I don't completely agree with you on the notes... I like the little blurb idea, just because most people will not take the step to click, but might read a short blurb. I will use notes for more detailed things.
  • I will take out the tuff column, and in situations like Lava Creek Tuff, I will add it to the eruption column.

Comment[edit]

Nice idea, only now I understand what u r trying to do.

  • "May have helped kill the Dinosaurs" is not "May have helped to kill the Dinosaurs" ???
  • "May have been caused by the Tristan hotspot" Do not agree. As I understand, in the Wilson Cycle the heated, subducted seafloor can cause a basalt flood. Theses basalt floods originate the hotspot eruption constancy. The Walvis Ridge (Gough/Tristan hotspot) and the Rio Grande Rise are linked to the Paraná and Etendeka traps, the Reunion hotspot is linked to the Deccan traps. --Chris.urs-o (talk) 09:13, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I got the idea of linking the Paraná and Etendeka traps to the Tristan hotspot from the Tristan hotspot page and the references there... if there is something wrong with that literature, please point out what is wrong... I do not understand the issue from your comment above. I changed them all to "linked to the ______ hotspot." A little more vague, but still showing an association. It is just, you wrote that the Tristan hotspot caused the Paraná and Etendeka traps. But the reality seems to be many times that basalt floods give birth to hotspots... --Chris.urs-o (talk) 17:07, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I see what you are saying... I guess it's a chicken or the egg situation. Either way, the new wording helps, no? QFL 24-7 bla ¤ cntrb ¤ kids ¤ pics ¤ vids 19:57, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
