  • Dear Wikipedian, I understood references and not external links as the place to proove the correctness of the statements and thereby also the notablity of this person. First of all the Mint article shows interest of the press. The article reads: "The briefs are sent to all the MPs, about 700 journalists and 1,000 non-governmental organizations around the country." And: "Madhukar said his six-person team, financed by the Ford Foundation, is the country’s first non-partisan research service focused on pending legislation." If you kindly see this together with some interesting facts about the Salary of Indian MPs, such a source of information is even more relevant in India than it would be in the UK with the broad research facilities available to the House of Commons. From the The Salary, Allowances and Pension of members of parliament act you can read that MPs in India get monthly 16.000 INR (see point 3) plus hence to the The Members of Parliament (Office Expense Allowance) Rules 20.000 INR for office expenses including "a computer literate person (...) engaged by a member for obtaining secretarial assistance in Delhi". Therefore, as a comparatively very bad equipped parliament the MPs rely even more on such external assistance. Additionally, the links I'm adding now about articles influenced by PRS Legislative Research through data sets compiled for the authors further proove the influence of CV Madhukar on not only legislators but also the press debate. As I wrote before, only MP interviews could reveal which influence such a project has in the end of the day. But if Wikipedia is not a project especially also to reveal such influences on legislators in general, than I don't know what else for. Xerosun

Hello Mr Haworth, I'm wondering why my document xerosun was deleted, having spent alot of time talking to 3 previous wiki admins, and verifying that the content was ok and the notability was met, it was subsequently removed from speedy deletion by a wiki admin. All this information was on the talk page. Can you please explain why the page was deleted please? Was there some content or something in there that I can re-write or fix to solve the deletion reason. Im new to this Wiki stuff, and still learning.

Element TD

May I request a reason for why the Element TD page was deleted? I looked over the discussion for its deletion, and none of the administrators brought up any good points. I believe the problem is that the mods/administrators are NOT familiar with Warcraft 3. As a result, I do not believe you should be deciding if an article is important or not, when you know nothing about the game it is for. --Karawasa 03:12, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Denvilles halt

Having given way to the temptation to tidy up Denvilles halt I found during the work, from my copy of Butt's The Directory of Railway Stations (P.78), that the LB&SCR opened Warblington Station as Denville in 1907. I thought you might find this ironic given events during the dispute. Someone at the time thought so; they renamed the station within the year (Ha! now I look at book more closely, within the month!) This may explain why you found Warblington and the only Denville you could find suspiciously close, as per your comment on the article's talk page. Butt has no reference to this Denvilles halt. OSGB36 and WGS84

I know that you are aware that Template:Oscoor converts grid references to OSGB36 lat/longs, but the Map sources/GeoHack page expects WGS84 lat/longs. It means that Template:Oscoor, and all the templates that use it, e.g. Template:gbmapping, are of little use if you want to pinpoint the exact location of a building or street. (Similarly, the grid references generated via Template:coor are also inaccurate by 100 m or so.) However, User:The Anomebot2 (a bot) is correctly converting grid references found within articles into WGS-84 latitude/longitude in Template:coor title d. Such articles then contain two geo refs which are displayed as about 100 metres apart.

Would you be able to modify your software to perform the datum change? See here for details how to do this. This gives even more detail.--Dr Greg 18:23, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

When I saw the comments on the closed AfD page, I just moved them onto the talk page because of other examples where late comments arrived and because of lack of a better idea. That means, howver, that Kevin's comment are now still present in the history of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kevin Meek. image licence

You placed this arrogant remark on my talk page:

I did not "mess about applying my own licence ideas", I simply used a "no derivative works, no commercial use" image licence tag for a photograph which I took, added (as required by the text on that licence template) "fair use" and "fair use, non-commercial" and "hang on" tags plus (also as required by the text on the wikitags) a fair use rationale note that, as the creator of the photograph, I gave wikipedia permission for its use. A perfectly reasonable position, with the tags obtained from the, rather convoluted, wikipedia image licences pages. For you to ignore the "hang on" tag, disregard the fair use rationale and merely delete the image without any discussion is high-handed, unpleasant and unsocial behaviour.   • I am very sorry if you feel that way. But even if the image had been of professional quality, I would have said the same. If people are not willing to release the their own images under straightforward GFDL or CC licences, then they should not upload. All the "fair use" tags are intended for images which people have not created themselves. OK, I did delete it 24 minutes after you applied the hangon tag – what were the final tags you intended to apply?
But in any case, if you were willing to apply {{GFDL}}, then all other tags were pointless.

Fall Out Boy image

  • My deletion was fully "in process" (whatever that means). The article itself was written in a not very encyclopedic style, contained one external link and had been tagged {{db-spam}}. Having looked at the links you put on the talk page, I still feel it is little more than spam. But it is a very different article from that which was deleted in October, so feel free to have another go at WP:DRV.     • I will state the case at WP:DRV. As to user user:GreenGarnet I've never heard of him. Having looked at his page I'm not even sure he's a real person.

Tagging of The Pete Collective

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on The Pete Collective. I do not think that The Pete Collective fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because given the mentions of press coverage, and the notable people mentioned as beign involved, i think this at least claims enough notablity not to ahve a speedy under A7, and i don't thinkk this is the kind of blatent advertising deletable under G11. 1) you said that I copied rendered text into an edit box which destroyed all wiki markup.
??? What was destroyed?
2) My intention on the Forum for Standards was to create an example of worse prose going to better prose for the purpose of showing a standard for how that is done. I don't think the Seabird example I posted was doing that anyway. Any suggestions?

AnimeSuki

Hi, I noticed you reverted back AnimeSuki. I've editted it as AnimeSuki also provides links regarding my Tracker (AniRena) as of recently therefor I editted the wikipage of AnimeSuki with the extra info. Also, EdwardK provides a tracker for AnimeSuki aswell and wasn't noted on the wikipage.

Hopefully this solves the "reverting back" problems as it took me a bit to change it correctly, wiki editting can be a horror sometimes if you don't work much with it ^^

I do not think that Aglow International fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because there may well be PoV concerns here, but given the level of sourcing, and the general tone, I don't think this is the kind of blatent advertising that warrents speedy deletion. Hi. I was the newpage patroller who put the initial neutrality-check tag on the Aglow International (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) article immediately after it was created. There's definitely a need to watch the thing for COI problems, but I'm fairly satisfied that the article's subject can pass WP:NOTE and that the article's author has made a good-faith effort to keep the article balanced -- though, as an apparent first effort, there is more work to do on that front. There's also work that needs to be done on the sourcing, but I'm still convinced it'll pass a careful editorial review; if that comes into doubt at any point, I'll AfD the thing and let the darts fly as they will. If you wouldn't mind sharing any concerns you may have with the writer at the article's Talk page, I'd appreciate it. She (assuming gender) seems to be more a case of a newbie unclear on policy than a spammer, but if you get a different vibe, it would be good to bring it out for discussion. I have revised the article, with references, to a more balanced description; and argue that it is notable (referred to in a UK broadsheet newspaper article, and a US educational website) and potentially useful, given wikipedia's prominence on google when researching subjects such as CUotS. Deletion of Megan Mullally image

Hello, I noticed that you deleted the image of Megan Mullally – File:Golden globes 2005 megan mullally.jpg – because of a “copyvio”. I made a link to this image from Wikipedia Commons less than a month ago and at the time saw no indication that it was in violation of a copyright *1*. I am new to Wikipedia and still trying to learn all the rules, so it would be helpful to me if you could explain how you determined that the image should be deleted so that I can avoid linking to illegal images in the future. CrazyLegsKC had found the image here and it is used in this page. There is no way to avoid linking to images which are later found to be illegal except by way of general "feel", eg. an image which looks to be of professional quality but which is of low resolution is probably a copyvio. What is blatant:? Isn't it inofrmation about the company? Surely this is comparable to the entries of Google, Epson, Canon and HP? If these large multinational companies can have entries on Wiki, then why cannot smaller local companies in my area also have similar entries? Surely allowing only big companies is discriminating against these small companies?

It is infor about local businses. I intend to do a page about the local common and church, pubs and some other businsses on the high street here. What wrong wtih that? About Alnmouth

I didn't realise there was a command to move articles, sorry. I was told that the name of the station was now 'Alnmouth for Alnwick' by another member, and I checked it out and found it was true.   • a) There is absolutely no need for placeholders; you do not need an AfD to delete a placeholder. b) Spherical panorama and cylindrical panorama will probably be more appropriate titles; I do not think that "workflow" is needed in the titles. c) panorama should not be capitalised. -- RHaworth 08:01, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I'll just re-add the pages when I'm done with the boiler-plate pages I'm working on off line. You sure make it difficult to get other editors involved in helping build a page.   • I feel that an hour is a reasonable time to wait before deleting a "false start" article. But a page which is purely a placeholder can be deleted instantly. Anyway Spherical Panorama Workflow had not changed for more than 24 hours when I deleted it. I always recommend people to use a personal sandbox when developing articles.
Also could you please change Category:Panorama Photography to Category:Panorama photography or, probably better, Category:Panoramic photography and change all the articles in that category? -- RHaworth 08:51, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Non-notable biographies

The bios you wanted to keep here (James William McGhee and Maria Hart) still have no hint of evidence of notability; and still have obvious COI issue like the one you voted to delete. Hi there RHaworth,

could you possibly tell me, why you deleted the page Traxon yesterday? I have to admit, it is quite difficult to understand the admins comments and reasons for deletion. I really do not get the point why it was deleted. I put a lot of effort into the creation of the entire text and tried to make it as neutral and informative as possible. To link it with articles and webpages etc. So I would really really like to know how to improve it that it stays in wikipedia and fulfils all necessary criteria! Thank you in advance for your help!   • I deleted and restored it. It was Tone who finally deleted it. The comment on one of your images says it all: "Created by Traxon Technologies Design Team". So nothing particularly advertising but only stating, that this is the official company logo. Rhaworth, But it cannot be possible that you accept only entries being made by users that write more that one article? *1* I don't think everybody can spend so much time editing various articles. So, do you feel, that the article's qualitiy was not ok? Were there particular parts, that made you perceive them as promotion material? I took a look at articles that are related to the professional field, like Osram, Philips, Zumtobel etc. Osram and Zumtobel just have a stub – only a short entry about what they produce and where their headquarters are located and Philips had an enourmous section about their company at war times. But there has to be something in between?! University Musical Society

According to the Deletion log it seems you deleted a page I just created: University musical society. I'm wondering why. Could you please assist me in letting me know what the problem with the content is so I can fix it, or let me know what process I need to go through to get the page back up?

Immediately after creating the page I received a message that the page was up for speedy deletion as it "does not assert the importance or significance of its subject". As instructed, I added the hangon tag and posted an explanation on the Talk page. The reason on the Deletion log was "blatant spam on a silly title", and I'm not sure what that means.

If you could assist me or provide me with some direction on what I should do next I would greatly appreciate it.

Please let me offer my response:

UMS is not a "student society" by any means and have never been one. We are a non-profit arts presenter, one of the top five in the country, along with Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. Our name, which you call arrogant, has a 129-yr old history, and I think it's arrogant that you feel you can delete an article and undermine the worth of an organization based on a name that was created 129-years ago and currently has tremendous cultural significance in the area. UMS has presented a great many famous musicians, orchestras, and conductors over the years: Vladamir Horowitz, Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Leonard Bernstein, Isaac Stern, Yo-Yo Ma...the list goes on and on. The "nauseatingly spammy / peacock language", for the most part, is the same as on our website and in our brochures, written by a professional copyist, with consultation by some of the top writers for arts organizations in the country. As for the "invalid categories" -- the extensive listing was intended to aid searchers in finding our organization, as we've found most users search for thing were are associated with (Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Hill Auditorium, etc.) rather than our organizational name specifically. I can certainly remove some of the categories if that is necissary.

UMS is a incredibly important institution in the Ann Arbor community. I noticed that other area arts organizations (such as the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra) have wikipedia entries and I see no reason, including your reasons stated above, why UMS should not be allowed to have a wikipedia entry.

I've been reading through wikipedia articles of similar organizations, and I understand that you would like the UMS article re-written to read like an encyclopedia entry, which I am happy to work on. UMS certainly wants our article to be as useful as possible to wiki readers.

Since we've clarified that UMS is not a student society and the original purpose of deletion ("blatant spam on silly title") does not apply, will you please reconsider my request to re-post the University Musical Society article?

I see nothing in speedy deletion that states that bad grammar, poor taste in writing, or writing in a non-encyclopedic format justifies an administrator deleting an article.

Based on the dialogue above it seems the article was chosen for deletion based on the name of the organization, of which I obviously have no control over, and your assumption that it was a student society (based on the name). If you'd read through the description, or taken the time to visit our website, I'm sure you could have easily gathered that we do not fit into a student society category.

If it's possible for me to get the UMS article re-posted through you I'd appreciate it. I'm asking as I'm finding the process at deletion review a bit hard to understand, and am new at this whole wiki thing -- and though I'm trying to learn -- sometimes, as they say, it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. I now can't even find the UMS article in the Deletion Log, and can't find my article in any sandbox... *1*

If you're willing to remove the UMS article from deletion and re-post it I will happily rework the content to fit better into the "wikipedia language" by the end of the work day Monday and keep you updated on my progess to ensure that the article then meets your qualifications.

Comba-Tai

I would like the Comba-Tai [and Comba Tai presumably] page completely deleted because there was not adequate time given to the discussion of this page. It is my belief that there were some inflammatory ignorant statements made against this African American Martal art that are legally noteworthy. I am the proprietor of this system and I formerly request that the Comba-Tai page be completely removed. It is my belief that Wikipedia procedures lend to a high degree of biases which is unworthy of any martial art. By the way, there is no where stated in any Comba-Tai article that immigrant “Nights Templar” went to Jones County. Such ignorance is indicative of what I believe to be bias evaluators on this page. Also the “Asian etymology” of some of its techniques is evident in the Asian systems it practices. Again this look’s like bias ignorance that looks really bad. I mention these areas because they were made by people who agreed to delete this page. 90% of the comments are opinion, none are based on fact. What encyclopedic value it that. Leeds Town Hall is on my watchlist, it was deleted on July 13th for copyvio and then quikly replaced with a much shorter article. I never saw a deletion tag on the article, if I had I would have contested it. Hey there, Last year I tried to create a very brief page about the company I work for, Cars.com. It was deleted as promotional by you.

Cars.com is a giant automotive research site in the U.S. Our main competitor, Edmunds.com, has a page on wikipedia. It features almost identical content to what I posted about Cars.com like History of the company etc. I think some of the wording I copied from our own "About Us" page might have sounded promotional. Can I revise that language and repost the page?

Just because I'm posting information about a company I don't think all of it can be considered "promotional" correct?

  • Wikify – the "shape" of an article counts for a lot
  • Make it longer than the stub you had before – aim for about half the size of the Edmunds.com article
  • Above all, provide independent references to show that the site is notable.

Deletion of MMM Commentaries page

I see that you have deleted the page, on the basis that it is spam. Can you tell me then how page like this Starship Sofa is able to survive, when our content is pretty much the same? I even based the layout, wording and content on the way Starship Sofa put it on their site. The SS site has been up for quite some time, and I have watched it to see whether it was deleted. Since it has survived for so long I naturally assumed it was OK to put up a page for the MMM Commentaries podcast, as we are on the same sort of "level" internet wise, and certainly our shows content is in a similar genre.

I went to the trouble with this new one of doing it from scratch, based on a long standing and undeleted page, the Starship Sofa page. I am hoping you can review your decision on the deletion of this page, which I feel is unwarranted. I would draw your attention to other podcasts existing quite happily on Wikipedia Nobody Likes Onions and Slice of Sci-fi, both of which I feel fall into the same category as my own podcast.

Davina Kotulski

While I think Davina Kotulski was a brutal article in terms of formatting and COI, I don't think it was an A7. I turned down a CSD request for Molly McKay earlier, which is the same situation. Would you mind if I undeleted the article and sent it to AfD?-Wafulz 19:19, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Darker Realms

I'm trying to create the Darker Realms page. My first attempt was tagged for speedy deletion and I read the pages I was directed to and I thought I had corrected the issues. I posted it as Darker Realms LPMud which seemed to be case sensitive and the page didn't come up in any searches unless it was typed in exactly so I reposted it as Darker Realms before I realized there was a move feature and before I could attempt to correct any of those mistakes all the pages were deleted.
