Thanks for your support, glad to work with you again. Are you planning on bringing Ahalya to FAC again soon? I can try to take a look through the article again. Thanks, Mark Arsten (talk) 19:18, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Yes, prose is pretty tough to get to top quality, and good copyeditors are hard to find. I'll try to find time to read through the article and see if I can help at all. As far as other people who might be willing to help, I'd suggest Accedie, Despayre, Rothorpe, and Allens. They've each helped me on some of my articles recently and I've found them to be pretty skilled and eager to help. Hope it goes well, Mark Arsten (talk) 05:16, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
Oh, and FYI, I pinged a few people today who said they would be willing to help out with copyediting. Mark Arsten (talk) 05:36, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

WP:Hinduism coordinator[edit]

WikiProject Hinduism is in need a volunteer coordinator. The volunteer coordinator would have the following responsibilities:

  • Do whatever needs doing in the WikiProject Hinduism, or getting it done alongwith others.
  • Do everything that needs doing in the WikiProject, or getting it done alongwith others.
  • Look after the interests of the WikiProject community in general and the articles in specific.
  • Represent the views of the WikiProject wherever representation/participation is sought; to get & put forward the community's viewpoint.
  • Innovate and bring forth new initiatives, continue existing ones and retire defunct ones.
  • Maintain the WikiProject infrastructure of pages.
  • Community development - recruitment, motivation, empowerment.
  • Join the mailing list for Wikipedians working on India related content on English Wikipedia (wikimedia-in-en [at] lists [dot] wikimedia [dot] org)

The Volunteer coordinator is a volunteer from the community and is answerable to the community. He enjoys the informal recognition and full support of the community. However, he is open to recall by the community, should the community so decide. I have been requested by User:Ashlin to recommend candidates and I have recommended you. Let me/Ashlin know if you are interested. Cheers, Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 07:12, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Ucucha's script(s)[edit]

...is located at User:Ucucha/HarvErrors. It is one of the more useful tools, especially since many pages that have harv formatting do contain errors. Somewhat random, but Ucucha has another handy tool tool you might be interested in, for finding duplicated links. ClayClayClay 10:22, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Five virgins[edit]

I was just re-reading the lead of Ahalya, and I noticed that there is no article on the panchakanya. That might be a good idea for a new article. Mark Arsten (talk) 17:11, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Ahalya[edit]

Hi. Mark asked me to to work on this, so please don't edit the article for a few hours to avoid edit conflicts. Thanks, Alarbus (talk) 05:43, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

👍 Yes check.svg diff. Alarbus (talk) 08:12, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
Glad you like it. And you get it — the ease of narrowing page ranges is one of the key benefits of this approach to referencing. Named refs encourage citing to wide ranges, often a whole book, and they frequently are expediently re-used when the named ref is to some other page range.
This tweak is about getting those long urls out of the middle of your paragraphs and would allow you to reuse them if needed by simply adding a {{r|Wilson p650}} somewhere. With {{r}} I don't recommend using the inline page option. Alarbus (talk) 00:58, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
Hi, again. edit should be undone. Two reasons: first it's simply complete information; the full citation should specify the full range of an article within a journal while the inline cites specify a page or range within an article (or omit it if referring to the whole article). Second, User:Citation bot will put them back into the full cites as it maintains articles (leaving the commented-out one, too). Alarbus (talk) 08:13, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Welcome to your new responsibility - Volunteer Coordinator for WikiProject Hinduism![edit]

We welcome you to post of volunteer coordinator for Wikipedia:WikiProject Hinduism. This volunteership is important because the WikiProject needs vision, guidance and direction and in the absence of anyone undertaking this responsibility in a holistic manner, the community felt that a volunteer coordinator was needed for WikiProject :Hinduism; in fact for each of the task forces/daughter projects/related projects to WikiProject India. We have asked for other volunteers to be co-coordinator alongwith you as you requested. Hopefully someone will respond soon.

Your appointment has been announced on the India Noticeboard and on the wikimedia-in-en mailing list. I strongly encourage you to join the wikimedia-in-en list. Feel free to approach the community for any cooperation you need. All the best for your new labour of love. Have fun & do great work. AshLin (talk) 05:21, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest[edit]

Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.

As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.

If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.

You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

Lost[edit]

I am trying to figure out where I can complain about something. I'm kind of lost, don't understand Wikipedia's complex structure.

My complaint: The subject of Paranormal, Psychic, Metaphysical, New Age, etc. The articles in Wikipedia on these topics are heavily biased towards the skeptical. I mean to the extreme! There is a total lack of objectivity. I've heard this complaint many times from my peers. What is causing this, and how can it be rectified? Is there a cabal of skeptical editors controlling this?

Can you direct me to whom I would complain and how to resolve the problem? I'd rather not do it article by article, as it is a broad spectrum problem.

Your HighBeam account is ready![edit]

Good news! You now have access to 80 million articles in 6500 publications through HighBeam Research. Here's what you need to know:

  • Your account activation code has been emailed to your Wikipedia email address.
    • Only 407 of 444 codes were successfully delivered; most failed because email was simply not set up (You can set it in Special:Preferences).
    • If you did not receive a code but were on the approved list, add your name to this section and we'll try again.
  • The 1-year, free period begins when you enter the code.
  • To activate your account: 1) Go to http://www.highbeam.com/prof1; 2) You’ll see the first page of a two-page registration. 3) Put in an email address and set up a password. (Use a different email address if you signed up for a free trial previously); 4) Click “Continue” to reach the second page of registration; 5) Input your basic information; 6) Input the activation code; 7) Click “Finish”. Note that the activation codes are one-time use only and are case-sensitive.
  • If you need assistance, email "help at highbeam dot com", and include "HighBeam/Wikipedia" in the subject line. Or go to WP:HighBeam/Support, or ask User:Ocaasi. Please, per HighBeam's request, do not call the toll-free number for assistance with registration.
  • A quick reminder about using the account: 1) try it out; 2) provide original citation information, in addition to linking to a HighBeam article; 3) avoid bare links to non-free HighBeam pages; 4) note "(subscription required)" in the citation, where appropriate
  • HighBeam would love to hear feedback at WP:HighBeam/Experiences
  • Show off your HighBeam access by placing {{User:Ocaasi/highbeam_userbox}} on your userpage
  • When the 1-year period is up, check applications page to see if renewal is possible. We hope it will be.

Thanks for helping make Wikipedia better. Enjoy your research! Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 20:58, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Article title![edit]

I have started two new articles:

But, I am not sure of the article titles, we can not name Jnana Yoga & Karma Yoga, since there are articles on these (rel. Gita), and also we can not name Karma Yoga (book), since (I don't know any) but there might be other writers on this subject! So, what do you think about article titles? --Tito Dutta Message 18:45, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

As per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (books), Karma Yoga (book) would be a good title. If there is another book by the same name, then Karma Yoga (Swami Vivekananda book) is the best title. --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:07, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
Sivananda Swami etc some more people have books on these names, there is not any Wikipedia article. Some people publish (ISCKON, Gita Press etc) Gita's chapter 3, 4 as separate Karma, Jnana Yoga!--Tito Dutta Message 13:02, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Currntly your naming (of the articles) is excellent. Just now I found there is another article Raja Yoga (book), created in 2006, follows the same naming convention you have followed. Cuts have been made in the article. For the FAC, could you look up the resolved comments you placed? If you are satisfied, please move the resolved comments to the FAC's respective talk page to avoid cluttering the nomination. Thanks. ~*~AnkitBhatt~*~ 07:39, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Is it really impossible to finish it within this review itself? I mean, I am at a stage in real life where I will most probably not be able to push further for the article's FAC if this one gets failed. That's perhaps the only reason I am working on it so much. Please give me a small window of time. I assure you, stability will return in a day or maximum two. I am working on adding summaries for the post-production and a final two paragraphs for the Economics section; and also, I shall work rapidly on the other concerns you have brought. I hope you understand. Thanks. ~*~AnkitBhatt~*~ 09:41, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Regarding merger[edit]

You have proposed to merge Yajna and Homa (ritual) without giving any reasons on the talk page. While Homa is a type of Yajna in Hinduism, the Homa article also has content related to Japanese Esoteric Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism and Jainism. Such being the case, a merger of the two is not workable. If you have reasons to suggest a merger we can discuss them here or at Talk:Yajna. CorrectKnowledge (talk) 17:37, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Orgy[edit]

I tagged the above article for Hinduism based on its being included in the Synoptic Outline of Hinduism from the Jones Encyclopedia of Religion, as can be seen at User:John Carter/Religion articles#Hinduism. It is also included in the outlines of several other major faiths as well, apparently because there are also in that book several subarticles relating to the topic of "orgy" in various religions or areas. I know at least Buddhism is included as well. Having not actually looked at the articles, I don't know all the relevant material, but I assume that the editors had a reason to include it. Anyway, just giving my reasons for tagging the article. John Carter (talk) 23:59, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Re-assessment of article[edit]

Could you re-assess the Yajna article for both WP India and WP Hinduism? I have expanded the content and added references to most of the content in the article. I have also improved the wording of the article and removed POV and sections needing citations for more than a year. I will also be grateful for any comments on how to improve the article further. Thanks. CorrectKnowledge (talk) 11:10, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Main page appearance: Ahalya[edit]

This is a note to let the main editors of Ahalya know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on May 22, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 22, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Paining of Ahalya by by Raja Ravi Varma

Ahalya is the wife of the sage Gautama Maharishi in Hindu mythology. Many Hindu scriptures describe that she was seduced by Indra, cursed by her husband for infidelity, and liberated from the curse by Rama (an avatar of the god Vishnu). Created by the god Brahma as the most beautiful woman, Ahalya was married to the much older Gautama. In the earliest full narrative, when Indra comes disguised as her husband, Ahalya sees through his disguise but nevertheless accepts his advances. Ahalya and her lover (or rapist) Indra are cursed by Gautama. Although early texts describe how Ahalya must atone by undergoing severe penance while remaining invisible to the world and how she is purified by offering Rama hospitality, in the popular retelling developed over time, Ahalya is cursed to become a stone and regains her human form after she is brushed by Rama's foot. Medieval story-tellers often focus on Ahalya's deliverance by Rama, which is seen as proof of the saving grace of God. Her story has been retold numerous times in the scriptures and lives on in modern-age poetry and short stories, as well as in dance and drama. Ahalya is extolled as the first of the panchakanya ("five virgins"), archetypes of female chastity whose names are believed to dispel sin when recited. While some praise her loyalty to her husband and her undaunted acceptance of the curse and gender norms, others condemn her adultery. (more...)

Re: Mother India[edit]

O wow! It will be fascinating to collaborate with you and Dr Blofeld. As told in Blofeld's talk page, I have already ordered copies of those two books. Once they arrive, I would start updating the article. And yes, I have access to JSTOR. So, if you find some reference available through JSTOR, please add them in the talk page. I will also do the same. The CNN-IBN documentary that you added (I have not seen it yet) would be valuable, I hope.

Do you think we should convert the reference styling to sfn and efn (as in India or Ahalya)? I have not worked in that style yet, but you know the technique well. Regards, --Dwaipayan (talk) 13:58, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Yes I later found out that Mrinalimi Sinha's book does not really have any connection with the film. Anyway, I have began collecting the PDF of appropriate articles available through JSTOR. Explore my User:Titodutta/vector.js page. There are two dablink related scripts– one is Uchua's script another is User:Lilac Soul/dabsolve.js. I am not totally confident right now which script I am using! But, it is very helpful. I feel, you'll able find out easily. You can ignore those Mosnum Engvar etc scripts, those only quickly correct American British English mix up, DMY MDY mix up etc.
You can see this screenshot (click to enlarge), I am using this dabsolve option! --Tito Dutta 05:52, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
No thank please! Though I have made comparatively many more edits using dabsolver etc script, but I am more excited with another tool I have found recently–ignore it if you already know– this is Google book citation tool – http://reftag.appspot.com/ It has made my Google book citation upto 200% easier. --Tito Dutta 06:27, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
Also curious, do you use any old newspaper archive? I do not have JSTOR access, so, sometimes rely on tools like Google's old newspapers etc! For example see here you'll get some good old documents on Gandhi's arrests. See coverages of Independence of India in some newspapers. I found these very interesting. You can change date range in tools at right side. If you knew it just ignore! --Tito Dutta 09:48, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)[edit]

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:30, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
