I do believe that this naming controversy needs to be nipped once in for all. The article needs quite a bit of reorganization before it can be put up on FAC. But, its not going to get past the FAC stage unless the name issue is first resolved, as the FAC process does not promote unstable articles. First the name needs to be resolved, then only can the article be featured. However that should not hinder the page improvement. Just a note, I will be out of town from tomorrow, the 23rd to the 4th, with little or no access to the internet. You are right, things need to calm down. Thanks for the reply. The opposes that I agree with, like sandys and isperms are the ones that question maturity and trust. With so many opposes I don't see how this can be considered as a consensus of the community. Interesting indeed. As I say on his talk page he has the biggest opportunity, maybe in Wiki RfA history, to make this a legendary RfA. Tay Za[edit]

You were interested in an article on Tay Za. I put this together but am not allowed to begin an article - not sure why not. Anyway, you might like to use it if you know how to start articles. Tay Za (probably born 1964) is a Burmese businessman, and son-in-law of Than Shwe, the leader of the Burmese military government.

His major business interests include Htoo Holdings and Air Bagan, the country's first and only privately-owned airline. In 2006/2007 Htoo Trading, a division of Htoo Holdings involved in teak log exports, was Burma's top private exporter and fifth largest overall, with gross revenues of $65.1 million.[1]

Other activities include construction, tourism, infrastructure projects, and mobile telephone services. He maintains close relations with the military leadership - a son of key junta member General Thura Shwe Mann serves on the board of Htoo Trading,[2] and his Myanmar Avia Export, Burma’s sole representative of Russia’s Export Military Industrial Group and of the Russian helicopter company Rostvertol,[3] was instrumental in the junta’s 2002 purchase of advanced MiG-29 fighters for US$130 million.[4]

Sean Turnell, an economics professor at Australia's Macquarie University who specialises in Myanmar, calls Tay Za "easily the most flamboyant of the tycoons that Burma has produced" [5] According to Thailand-based opposition sources, he and former drug-lod Lo Hsien Han paid for the $300,000 wedding of the daughter of Senior-General Than Shwe in 2006, and he is reported to be romantically involved with another daughter.[6] Than Shwe's family frequently stay at a Tay Za-owned resort, and he is reported to act as a business agent for the family in Singapore.[7]

Your first two points are fine and arguable but your third really has little relevance imo. I've also seen others bring that up and while I respect the man Gandhi, I don't think his personal opinion of the name Mahatma Gandhi has a lot of credence. But I welcome a thoughtful user to the discussion! I don't know if you noticed but I've been subject to some abuse at that page recently and I'm happy to see you there, honestly. It is so because that's what Wikipedia's policy says. It's the most common way of calling that man and thus the name of the article. Which is why I think the same should be done for Mahatma Gandhi. Beam 15:52, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't argue about Saint Francis because I don't really know and haven't talked about him or studied him. But when it comes to Mahatma Gandhi or Alexander the Great, I have read about them and talked about them and discussed them with friends. And, as one article reflects and the other use to reflect, Mahatma Gandhi and Alexander the Great are the way they are known. And that's what I've found from my life experience. I thought it was. Fowler pretty much entailed everything wrong with wikipedia when he attacked me and he's the main opposition to the correct thing being done here, or at least, he was. The tyranny in numbers of late makes it seem like a hopeless fight, but many fights for what is "right" seem hopeless at one point.

I'm not really familiar with the WP naming policy, but somehow the full "Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi" on the top of the page and on the infobox feels weird. It's always been Mahatma, even in the text books. Also, I think he was referred to as Mahatma even during his lifetime. - Amog |Talk 05:31, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the comments on my RFA. Whilst I disagree with the comments about the Administrators as Team Leaders or managers, I appreciate your comments. It was not my intention to make it seem like a big deal. WikiProject India Newsletter Volume III, Issue no. 001 - June 2008[edit]

Project News
  • Tag & Assess 2008, an assessment drive initiated by the assessment department began on June 7, 2008 and will be running until July 2008. Many Wikipedians have started contributing to this mammoth task. This housekeeping activity will help manage articles in better way. You can also get involved!
  • Bot Assisted Assessment was successfully done using Bot0612 in May 2008. 1744 articles (18.5%) of all India unassessed articles were marked if they had been assessed by some other project.
  • What's Featured and Good?
  • IPL was hot on Wikipedia too!!! During the tournament, the article was among the most frequently edited articles. It is currently the only Indian article in top 100, occupying 58th spot.
  • Do you know of an article that is currently underrated? If so, please nominate the article at the Assessment Department's request for assessment. This will allow our project to get a better idea of the quality of our articles.
