St Catz[edit]

Enjoy the summer. Don't waste it on Wikipedia; it'll still be there in the winter! A Catz topic could start quite small: main article (including a section on history and a section on buildings), list of alumni (possibly split between society and college depending on numbers), list of masters and fellows. The tedious bit, as you may appreciate, is writing the articles on the notable alumni and getting reliable sources to show when they were at Catz (which is why having access to a college library would be useful, with (I assume) back-issues of college magazines etc). Time to get some impetus going within Wikipedia:WikiProject University of Oxford! checks for your name there, fails to spot it... Regards, BencherliteTalk 23:51, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Walter A. Brown Trophy[edit]

In case you didn't recall, National Basketball Association awards FT is currently in retention pending the result of the Walter A. Brown Trophy GAN. I don't think it is realistic for this to achieve the GA status anymore because there aren't enough info. (see the GAN for detail) I just want to see if the National Basketball Association awards FT would be affected if Walter A. Brown Trophy is merged to List of NBA champions.—Chris! ct 22:31, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply. I will not merge just yet and will keep digging for some info.—Chris! ct 23:33, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Merging is done. But I didn't update the topic template because I am not sure if I will make a mistake.—Chris! ct 01:14, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Cloud Gate FA[edit]

What are the procedures by which Wikipedia:Featured topics/Millennium Park will be updated for Cloud Gate's WP:FA promotion. Is it just manual?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 20:04, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Re: Warren and Hamilton[edit]

Please withdraw Warren's, I wasn't ready because there are 2 that have to go in, and I need another FA to keep its FT status. Hamilton is fine.Mitch/HC32 17:44, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

No. It looks bad. I wanna hold off till either New York State Route 149, New York State Route 418, or New York State Route 8 to FA.Mitch/HC32 18:44, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

FT number template[edit]

I believe that you are familiar with the workings of the {{FT number}} template (as you have the most recent edits to it). It currently seems to be returning the value 31 which seems way too few - I believe that it should be around 90 or so. Have you any idea how to fix it - it seems to count the number of members of various categories and I would have no idea where to look to try and fix the count. Boissière (talk) 19:20, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Ahh I recently moved one of the categories that template is working off but forgot to update the code in the template itself. My bad. Fixed now. Thanks for pointing it out - rst20xx (talk) 19:23, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
That's looking much better. Thanks for fixing it so quickly. Boissière (talk) 19:28, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Featured_topic_candidates/Gilbert_and_Sullivan[edit]

Please re-review: Gilbert and Sullivan has a section on every single one of their collaborations save Utopia, Limited and Grand Duke, a pair of minor works which, like mst summaries of Gilbert and Sullivan, are discussed together. You're asking for articles that are already in the nomination, if you had looked - which is very, very frustrating. And, yes, I'll admit the template gives way too much weight to Richard D'Oyly Carte and should be fixed, but, though he had a role, it's very, very minor compared to Gilbert and Sullivan themselves. VC topics[edit]

With regards to the "FT credits" remark that I made, it was absolutely correct for you to consider that as a possible motivation. When I review other featured content I often see that as a motivation for certain editors, and I understand where you were coming from. I didn't mean my remark to be disparaging you and I didn't take offence at it. It is just not my motivation for this topic, we just have differing views on the presentation and future development of this topic which is fair enough. We all have our own influences. Now we have both set out our stalls, let the people decide! ;) Regards, Woody (talk) 10:20, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

OK, yeah, I somewhat realised that and just wanted to clear it up. Anyway, as you said, let's let the people decide :) rst20xx (talk) 11:27, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

FT retention period[edit]

I know that we have three months to get new articles up to GA or FA to have a topic stay featured. I have confidence that this will be no problem, but the process still has to be started. Would you mind making the proper notations (I am clueless to the infrastructure set up for these topics and you promoted the topic in question)?

Thanks, -MBK004 04:47, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

re: List of Bleach episodes (season 10)[edit]

I can try it, I've never set one up before though, and I also was not a major contributor so I wasn't sure if I was allowed. I'm also not sure that if problems did arise if I would be able to resolve them. I can put it up if you want, but I don't think I'd be the best person for the job. --Lightlowemon (talk) 03:47, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

My thoughts exactly, I asked the question because I regularly visit and I found that part of the system confusing. Just one more question though, as seen in this edit ([1]) I changed the title of the webpages to conform with the previous nine seasons, and got told not to invent names, so does that mean all the other seasons need to be fixed? --Lightlowemon (talk) 12:56, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Keble[edit]

Well, "K" comes after "J", of course! More relevantly, I found a copy of the Centenary Register (1970) going cheaply, which lists biographical info for all wardens/tutors/fellows/lecturers/students up to 1970, which makes the alumni lists easier to complete. Perhaps, though, I should stick to small colleges, preferably founded in the last 50 years, with only a handful of notable people: that would make for an easier life! Hope term is going well so far (said he, feeling all nostalgic and wondering where his old college scarf is, now that it's getting cold) BencherliteTalk 21:00, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Article History for supplementary nomination?[edit]

I just noticed you closed the supplementary nom for Wikipedia:Featured topics/Iowa class battleships but you haven't touched the article history on Talk:Iowa class battleship. I would assume that there is something to be done there. -MBK004 23:29, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

In that case, I do understand the reasons. I guess what I was trying to say is that you did not remove {{FTCaddmain}} from Talk:Iowa class battleship at the conclusion of this supplementary nomination. I assume that was just an oversight on your part, and have therefore been bold and just removed the notice. -MBK004 00:56, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Proposal to raise FT criteria to requiring 50% featured[edit]

Thanks for the note on my talk page. I'm assuming this is a standard message & relates to Wikipedia:Featured topics/Physical geography of Somerset which I've already raised with Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset as needing work (although I suspect I'll end up doing a lot of it - a job for the Xmas break), but not to Wikipedia:Featured topics/Grade I listed buildings in Somerset which has 7 FLs & 1 GA.— Rod talk 20:59, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Ring Line[edit]

I do appreciate all the hard work you do around here, but today things went rather fast. Some random editor, who has never edited the article before, comes along and moved 'Ring Line' to 'T-baneringen', without discussion or notification of any kind (can't even bother to edit the article itself). He has a good point, but chose to do it the reckless way. Now I not only have 50 articles to dab, but have to clean up after your impatient move of the GT as well. No wonder I don't have any time to write articles any more. I guess today everyone needs to learn patience. Arsenikk (talk) 22:43, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks :) I got a bit lost in all the moving; I moved some, but not all the stuff you did. Thanks for your understanding. Arsenikk (talk) 22:46, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
Ring Line (Oslo) is fine for me, since there is also one in Copenhagen and Moscow. It is only a matter of time before it would have to be moved (due to probably renaming of the other two in the future, because of WP:ENGLISH), and since a choice has to be made on the spur, 'Ring Line (Oslo)' is fine. I would have liked to have seen a discussion about this on the talk page, but process has come so far now... Arsenikk (talk) 22:56, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

FT cat for "Recognized content" bot[edit]

You know more about FTs (& possibly GTs) than anyone else I know & I wonder if you can help? A new bot (see User:JL-Bot/Project content which handles listing FAs, FLs, GAs DYKs etc for projects & I've got involved in the discussion about its set up at User talk:JLaTondre. I suggested adding FTs but the bot owner has some questions:

I would need the specific category. That is a top-level category without the actual articles. There seem to be several possible ones in there and I don't know how they relate (Category:Featured topics vs Category:Wikipedia fully featured topics). Let me know which one (or ones) and I'll add them.

Could you respond/help?— Rod talk 17:06, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Featured topic and subtopic questions[edit]

I am sure that you are aware of WP:OMT by now with the four featured and good topics currently in existence for battleships and battlecruisers. We are closing in on completing the first larger chunk of the vessels with the completion of the last remaining German battlecruiser to GA/FA. They are all listed here, and we've put together a list article to tie them all together to take to FL to top an encompassing FT (List of battlecruisers of Germany). The user responsible for all of these articles has put together a working idea of what the FT would look like here: User:Parsecboy/ISG. Those of us actively involved in this project would be appreciative if you could offer your advice as to the composition of this potential topic as well as the possibility of utilizing subtopics for the two classes involved (one already featured and one pending once the article reaches GA shortly). Please respond here. Thanks, -MBK004 08:11, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Remove Warren, Essex and Hamilton topics[edit]

There is a pretty good chance that this three's lead articles will be removed. Just get rid of the topics. No removal discussion. Just get rid of them for me please. I don't wanna bother stressing out over this. Just remove the topics please.Mitch32(Live from the Bob Barker Studio at CBS in Hollywood. Its Mitch!) 03:53, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

P.S. This will also have to be the case for the Marquette County state highways FT as well. USRD has discussed that these sorts of lists should be merged into their county lists. Imzadi1979 (talk) 03:58, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
OK, I think it would be best to go through formal nominations for transparency purposes, and I don't think it's right for me to just remove them as you suggest, but please, Mitch, if you don't want to know, just ignore them - rst20xx (talk) 07:57, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
Actually, it may not be as simple as that either. If you can get the county lists up to FL, then you could use these as the lead, via bringing a supplementary nomination to swap the leads across. You'll have three months to do this from when the current leads get demoted from FL. So given the possibility that you might be able to save these topics, do you want to wait this period out, or do you want a quick removal nom as soon as the leads are demoted? rst20xx (talk) 08:02, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
There won't be a lead article. The "county lists" are just one section of the county's article.Mitch32(Live from the Bob Barker Studio at CBS in Hollywood. Its Mitch!) 15:23, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh sorry, I think I've got confused. As for as I can now see, the "List of state highways in..." articles are for the chop, but the "List of county routes in..." articles are for keeping. Whereas the "List of highways in..." articles are going to have the state/US/Interstate bits merged off into the article for the actual county, leaving just the county information, and hence the article will be renamed "List of county routes in...". Is this right? I don't really understand the rationale behind the changes to the "List of highways in..." type articles because I think that the result of making those changes will be less useful for the reader, whilst not actually changing the number of articles on Wikipedia at all. And I'm not sure that the actual county articles should contain road information - some counties are very populous so there is already a lot to talk about. But anyway, that's my opinion - rst20xx (talk) 17:51, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

On another note, I plan to renominate my M-28 GTC once this is complete. The core reason given for opposing that topic was that of the 4 constituent articles, 2 were geographically contained in Marquette County, and the M-28 article was also included in the Marquette County FT. The consensus among USRD members is running very much against county-based lists and topics, rst20xx, but for topics based on a single highway and its subarticles, or related highways. Since the now-unpopular county list is being FLRC-ed based on project consensus, its content merged into the county article, which won't be a FA any time soon, that means the FT will not exist to sink the M-28 topic on another nomination. (It may be at FTC though since the current business loop article is at FAC at the moment.) Imzadi1979 (talk) 15:06, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

OK, that would be good to see - rst20xx (talk) 17:51, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Just wondering...[edit]

How do you keep track of all the new articles created that fall under the scope of existing good/featured topics? Dabomb87 (talk) 02:51, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Most topics are not going to grow, but certain topics are quite susceptible to growing; those that are I list here when I promote them. I then try to periodically check the topics in this list for new articles. Usually this works quite well though I just right now found Golden Rule (album), argh - rst20xx (talk) 14:41, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
Also, with a lot of the topics, you know what the names of the articles will be before they are created, so then I just watchlist the pages so I know as soon as they get made - rst20xx (talk) 15:13, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

FLC review[edit]

Recently, you commented on the featured topic candidacy for Major League Baseball awards. As per the ongoing discussion there, two lists are being added to the topic, but have not yet gone through FLC. Re:Warren[edit]

As the nominator originally, the problem is project standards and I can't backend my project for these topics. As a bonus, I am the only one who cares about them, so they're not at fault for anything they do to mine. Trust me, I've wanted to make these three an FA for some time. As the top of my talk says, I just got my first FA since State Route 74 (New York – Vermont) in January 2009 the other day, I've been on a long FA drought and that doesn't help. By the way, you nominating it does violate the rules on drive-bys as I was the nominator.Mitch32(We the people in order to form a more perfect union.) 17:29, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

South Park (season 1) FT[edit]

Hey rst20xx. You left some comments at the South Park (season 1) FT about its need for a season navbox. I was wondering what you thought of Flash's suggestion about a template box at the bottom of the page instead? As he correctly points out, the WikiProject South Park came to a consensus in the past against including the whole season in their infoboxes because it sort of bogged the infobox down (although an option to expand and hide it might remedy that problem). But before I went trying to track down someone who could make the template for us, I wanted to hear your thoughts on the other suggestion... — Hunter Kahn 13:52, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

  • Sorry for the delay in dealing with the SP Season 1 template thing. I've added it and responded at the FTC seeking more feedback. Thanks! — Hunter Kahn 19:22, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Reminder[edit]

Since this has been superseded by the Battlecruisers of Germany topic, you mentioned that you would archive Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Moltke class battlecruisers/archive1 when you had time. It may not be best to have both live at the same time. -MBK004 15:18, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I know, I'm just really, really busy at the moment - rst20xx (talk) 17:25, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Topic discussion[edit]

Btw... I was looking at the Template:Featured topic box and was wondering if it could be tweaked to allow 3 different versions:

  1. Featured topics (maybe with a star-filled gold border or gold coloring within the box)
  2. Good topics (like it is now)
  3. regular topics like mine (maybe use gray colors within the box)

The colors/borders could then be set by a parameter: |class="FT", |class="GT" (default), or |class="NA". – VisionHolder « talk » 22:27, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Hmm a nice idea but would involve a massive increase in manual work to maintain - rst20xx (talk) 23:17, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
In what sense? Do you mean in terms of changing the existing topics? I think that could be automated. – VisionHolder « talk » 23:38, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
Things like this have been done before using the number of articles in various categories associated with topics but this requires expensive parser calls to do, and the WP:FT and WP:GT pages are overloaded with expensive parser calls now. We can't add any more functionality this way - rst20xx (talk) 00:13, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

You mean WP:FT2010 and WP:WBFTN? I don't maintain those, I just leave the bot to do it, so it's probably wrong all over the place. Feel free to manually edit it though - rst20xx (talk) 16:22, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Video game console books[edit]

I think you have a misconception about how books works. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the version I'm giving, and it's in fact much to the old version. The level 2 heading is the title, the level 3 heading is the subtitle. AKA the book will be entitled "Video Game Consoles: The Seventh Generation". Book redirecting[edit]

I have reverted your redirects of Book:Derfflinger class battlecruisers and Book:Moltke class battlecruisers because they are still valid books even without a corresponding FT. The fact that Book:Battlecruisers of Germany also exists is largely immaterial to the existence of the individual classes which are still relevant as stand-alone books regardless of their status with individual sub-topics. -MBK004 18:56, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

...But the articles in the former two books are in the latter book!!!!!!! rst20xx (talk) 23:46, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
They are still valid separately as well as together, some person may want just the Derfflingers but not the others. That is the book concept. I'd suggest taking it up with the book people if you disagree. -MBK004 23:49, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
Hmm I feel it's redundant to have one book contained within the other. I'm not going to take it up simply because I can't be bothered - rst20xx (talk) 23:51, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

re: Vaan and Balthier[edit]

I brought up your concerns with the SE wikiproject, and the thought that came up (and if I remember right was noted when the articles were first created) is that, if you consider lead article, "Final Fantasy 12", as level one of the FF12 topic, and the other articles in the topic as level 2, Vaan and Balthier would be level 3, and thus not needed in the main topic. They would instead be included in the "Characters of FF12" topic, whose lead would be Chars of FF12 and whose sub-articles would be the individual characters. This is similar to how the "Han Dynasty" topic includes the level 2 article "List of Han emperors", but not the level 3 articles of the emperors themselves. As there are 2 individual character articles, the "characters of FF12" topic is eligible for topic status in its own right, and so it isn't mandatory for it to be rolled up into the parent "FF12" topic- though it certainly could be if desired. Thoughts? --PresN 22:23, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. I've been on a wikibreak but I should be back soon. I'll work on the article. -- EA Swyer Talk Contributions 00:48, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Topic retention question[edit]

Looking at the current retentions, Halo media failed to meet two retention periods for articles on 1.d and 3.c. Normally I'd start a FTRC, but upon investigation of the articles, each have received PRs but have not been added to the topic. Perhaps a gentle nudge to the people responsible for the topic is in order? -MBK004 03:35, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I've already nudged David about 3 times (the peer reviews were the result of the first of those) but he still hasn't brought the sup nom, grr. If you'd like to nudge him too, that would be helpful :) rst20xx (talk) 03:38, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Japanese battleship Yamato was just promoted to FA, which means that Wikipedia:Featured topics/Yamato class battleships is now a FT, please take care of the associated paperwork. -MBK004 02:34, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Celebration/archive1[edit]

Hello Rst20xx. As per the discussion there, Celebration: The Video Collection has been nominated for GA. My question is how do I change the nomination from Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Celebration/archive1 to Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Celebration (Madonna album)/archive1? --Legolas (talk2me) 11:01, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your help Rst. Woo! That's the fastest I have developed a GA. --Legolas (talk2me) 02:56, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello, Rst20xx. Since you take care of Featured topics, I would like to address the M.I.A albums topic. According to here, M.I.A has a new album coming out this July. GamerPro64 (talk) 01:22, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Ah yes, thanks. Once the article is created, the topic will have 3 months to get it PRed and added. I'll watchlist it - rst20xx (talk) 01:25, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

30 Rock retention[edit]

Looks good, if a bit scary! :) I'll take up that article soon, though it will be difficult to get it featured before the awards season (that's the one issue, IMO, with the retention periods). I'll try tho. ThinkBlue is working on seasons 3 and 4 subtopicss. Staxringold talkcontribs 00:31, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Music of FF13 retention[edit]

It's okay, of course! Them's the rules- make an article that should be in the topic, and you get three months to make it a GA. --PresN 14:32, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Wikipedia Reviewer.svg

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:40, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

FT question[edit]

Just wondering the reason for this? I happen to think it looked better without "List of... list of..." etc. — KV5Talk • 12:42, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

It's standard layout. The reason being because the article does not actually contain the details of the champions, just lists them (and any relevant stats on why they're a champion) - rst20xx (talk) 01:06, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

FTC backlog[edit]

I've just noticed that there are several nominations at WP:FTC (both FT and GT candidates) which have been up far longer than they should be with clear consensus for promotion. Are you going to promote them soon or do I need to learn how to do that? -MBK004 01:36, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

  • Per MBK's note, I've started to promote a couple of the obvious ones that have been sitting around for a couple months. Hope I'm not stepping on any toes doing that. I'm pretty sure I did all the steps in making sure the promotions were done smoothly. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 01:17, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Topic promotion?[edit]

You've been absent for a bit, so I'm taking a chance, but if you're available...
This GT has six articles, and now has two FAs and four GAs, which makes it a FT under the current rules until 1 September (another article is at FAC so it will make the deadline). Perhaps you could handle all of the associated actions to notate this promotion appropriately? -MBK004 07:31, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

I took care of this, as well as another GT to FT promotion, but as always you are welcome to check my work. -MBK004 04:52, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
