I've noticed the NHL activity and am monitoring it. If I see any errors I will probably just fix them. Still working on the infoboxes. I really wish that I could use a bot to get it done. The work could be done in minutes instead of months. Dincher (talk) 19:49, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

A quick look at the AWB doesn't show that it will speed up the process very much. It's not a big deal that this is taking slow. List of National Historic Landmarks in Pennsylvania (and Philadelphia)

Thanks for following up, especially as 4th of July cleanup drive reviewer Lvklock might not have time to get to List of NHLs in PA and List of NHLs in Philadelphia before the last minute. What the cleanup drive has evolved into, is mainly a focus on ensuring there is a good "home" for any NHL information, photos, etc. Usually means having a separate article on the place, split out from any article about a person, battle, school. Usually means having an NRHP infobox. Always means including a link to the NHL summary webpage. If there is an NRHP infobox, it always should include the NHL designated date, supported by reference to the NHL summary webpage.

For example, in List of NHLs in PA, i notice the Brandywine Battlefield article has an infobox which needs NHL date and summary reference. Also, for that one, i am not sure if there should be the infobox about the battle or if that should be in the battle article instead. Sorting out which should be in battlefield article vs. battle article can take more time than necessary for this cleanup drive. Issues can just be noted, in comments at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/ProgressOnNHLsByState; see notes on other states there. Comments not addressed by end of drive will get transfered to the corresponding list-article talk pages.

We're now aiming to review all, and to finish cleaning up for all these basic issues on 40 out of the 54 NHL list-articles. doncram (talk) 15:25, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing up Brandywine Battlefield. Minor point: I just changed type in the NRHP infobox from NHL to NHLD, to indicate this is a National Historic Landmark District. NHL vs. NHLD is a distinction that others feel is more important than i do, but practice now is that we identify it (while we do not otherwise distinguish non-districts between buildings vs. structures vs. objects vs. sites). Appraiser would probably have made this change eventually. I am suspecting u are fixing up all, rather than just noting problems, which is more than fine of course. doncram (talk) 13:16, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Great you are fixing up coordinates and otherwise improving PA NHL articles for real, rather than just engaging in review overhead which is pretty much all that i am doing at this point. :( About indicating district or not, it's really not that important. But in the Brandywine infobox, there was "hd" for historic district indicated, beforehand. That was from the Elkman infobox generator, which accesses a field in NRIS indicating Historic district or not. For NHLs, hd should be changed to nhld. Also, "ResourceType=District" is the last part of the URL within NHL summary references, and on the NHL summary page itself "Resource Type = District" shows. I started doing my more cursory review within the Philadelphia list, and will finish that out. I did the cursory review for the last 10 in the PA list already and noted that in wp:NHL progress checklist. Please just let me know, or indicate in that checklist, by this evening, say by midnight eastern time, if you are done or where you are stopping, so that i will know and/or could cursorily finish if need be. I want to issue some kind of report on the drive during the night. I am secretly glad you and others got started into helping with these reviews and cleanups, because although we won't be able to claim the cleanup is complete by July 4 at the level intended, i am imagining you and others might continue, after. Thanks again for tracking down and deleting all of those copyvios. I agree that some of the maps may be copyvios, but I've also been unable to locate their source. The state maps showing counties may be original work. They have that vaguely clumsy look. :) The same goes for many of the Hiram images, so I'm okay with leaving them alone for the moment. Census abstractions

When an article primarily relies on a Census abstraction (CA, CDP, MSA, ...),

• Can it be made a requirement that the article name/title contain such in their name?

Also in the text of such article,

it should be clear whether statements refer to the Census abstraction or "real life" (civil/historical/legal/official).

• If you go to Census FactFinder,

and search "Burlington", select "Ohio"

What you "Officially" get back from the U.S. Census Bureau is "Burlington CDP, Ohio" and not "Burlington, Ohio".

At least the Census Bureau got it correct, they refer to is as the CDP, and do not refer to it as "Burlington, Ohio".

"What I am looking for out of it is disambiguation and accuracy".

• I was composing the following reply to you yesterday and far various reasons, did not get a chance to post it:

While it is not "easy", the authoritative place for such information is the County Recorder or the Ohio Secretary of State, also some Townships still have a "Township" office (mandated by the Ohio Revised Code).

• My interest was/is in having the "Southernmost" description and place be accurate. Village of South Point claimed they are, and has a roadside marker saying that they are (not sure how "official"?, i.e. whether officially sanctioned by a higher level of government. Not sure where the Burlington article sourced their statement from (i.e. data or text supplied from an official source?) For the town of Burlington (I am still looking for something official, but most on-line references to Burlington, refer to it as a "town"), is accurate to say that "Ohio's Southernmost point is South and West of the town of Burlington". Since there is another community/town (Brookdale) between town of Burlington and where Ohio's Southernmost point probably is. Not sure what an accurate claim for South Point is, I am still trying to determine exactly where the local borders are versus where the Southernmost point actually is (Today it could legally be in the Ohio river water, where there may have been dry land in 1802).

• My concerns are issues of disambiguation and accuracy. There has been another "Burlington, Ohio" article which "did the right thing" and named theirs "Burlington Township, Licking County, Ohio". This one should be "Burlington CDP, Ohio". I do not object to other "common" names redirecting to it, but the article's official name needs to reflect that it is primarily based on a Census abstraction. If not, then I should continue to dig up local records about "Burlington, Ohio" and update things like the area to "50 acres" and cite local records? Do you understand how much of a mess that would be?

• I tried the Lawrence County Recorder (to find out where the Burlington-South Point border is, what the Burlington status was/is, and which other civil entities are contained within the Burlington CDP), but the County Recorder's on-line search is not working due to some system upgrade of their's (not sure when it will be back up). County Recorder should have any official Lawrence County or Fayette Township records (or for South Point which straddles both Fayette and Perry Townships), although the Ohio Secretary of State may also have archives? The current Ohio Revised Code specifies when and if a civil/municipal entity needs to file with a Township, County, or the Ohio Secretary of State.

• I also tried the Lawrence County Auditor, which can provide the Village of South Point parcel/tax addresses in Fayette Township (there are about 1650 or so of them, so I skipped on finding Village of South Point's the southernmost/easternmost for now).

• I downloaded what the U.S. Census Bureau had available describing the boundaries of the CDP (and also Village of South Point), U.S. Census has a whole bunch of disclaimers about what a CDP is, and how accurate or inaccurate such downloads are, specifically, while they "may" have more detailed data boundary/geographic available, but they only provide a "rough" outline download (approximating "major" corners/turns). Assuming that such boundary data downloads at least includes the farthest East, North, South, and West, I am "boxing" coordinate, and using information available from elsewhere (USGS, State of Ohio, ...) to see what else may be in the CDP. Very preliminary: apparently "Brookdale" is the "West end" of Burlington CDP before the "empty green space" about where the Village of South Point begins, and "Walnut Creek" is one of the areas to the East within the CDP. Not sure if the CDP includes any parts of Sybene? or the area just North of town of Burlington appears to be town of Brayfield (not sure if it is within the CDP) ... continuing the research the specifics.

NHL infobox updates

I noticed you're doing a number of manual changes to infoboxes to change the "date" parameter to "accessdate". I was wondering if this is an issue in the infobox generator that I should look at, or the result of a new standard, or something else. I listed the date of the National Register Information System database ([1]) as 2008-04-15 because that's when I downloaded it and when it was last updated. In other words, I'm treating 2008-04-15 as the date of publication within the {{cite web}} call.

Should it actually be "accessdate" rather than "date" within {{cite web}}? I don't want to make extra work for people. Let me know what you think. --Elkman ^(Elkspeak) 20:20, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

The "added" parameter in {{Infobox nrhp}} is the date on which the property was listed on the National Register. As far as "date" versus "accessdate" in {{cite web}}, I think everyone else is using "date" based on the infobox generator, but "accessdate" really isn't any less accurate. It might make more sense when citing a Web site that has a publication date (e.g. this reference from the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission) that says it was updated February 2007, but I didn't read the page until today.

By the way, if you're creating new infoboxes from scratch and doing all the research, you're welcome to use the NRHP infobox generator and query tools that I've written. I was pretty sure you were already aware of it, but if not, this will save you some time. --Elkman ^(Elkspeak) 20:38, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Tioga County creek

Totally off the topic of the southern part of Ohio: my summer job is digitizing the minutes of old church governing bodies, one of which met in Pittsburgh in 1812. This body appointed a delegate (a pastor in Walden, New York) to spend a week "in Tioga County settlement on the Susquehanna; at Joseph Campbell's, [unclear] creek, on his way over the mountains." The unclear word appears to be "Conesque" — are you aware of any such creek? The book I'm working with is a transcription made several decades later by an author who didn't always spell correctly (see the bottom of page 2 of this document to see how he spelled the Conoquenessing Creek near Zelienople, and I'm wondering if this is perhaps an error for the Cowanesque River. I think you've guessed right. See this 1897 History of Tioga County (Nelson Twp.); it refers to one Joseph Campbell, Sr., who settled on the Cowanesque in 1810, one of the earliest settlers of the valley. The Campbells were Scotch-Irish and Presybterian (see lower on the page), so I'd say it all fits. Choess (talk) 03:41, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

SAPR bugs

Thank you for you patience and help with debugging the SAPR bot script. I fixed two bugs today. First, pages with an ampersand in the title are correctly edited. Second, on the 1st of the month the script will also check the previous month.

I also started working on the archiving script. I made it detect pages like Talk:Israel Baseball League where the oldpeerreview template was used with the archive number of the current peer review. The next thing is to wait for a page where the articlehistory template is used; then I will try to make the script detect that as well. But it is hard to write the code without a live PR page to test it on.

Forksville Covered Bridge

Looking good. I made two more suggestions by adding them to the PR and indenting them so you can find them. One is a nit-pick about a possible adjective-verb confusion. The other is a link to an American Association of Highway Transportation Officials web page that has a brief (three-sentence) answer to the question, "What is a bridge's sufficiency rating?" I stumbled upon it but found it helpful. By the way, I'm traveling again, and I'm depending on a variety of unpredictable Internet connections. I have a good connection this evening, and I think I'll have a decent one tomorrow. The four days after that I may have no connection at all. If I seem to disappear for a while, that's the reason. Thanks for the message. I knew the line was not long for this world, but I hadn't heard about the rail-trail yet. I guess I should probably target Marsh Creek State Park, which is within reasonable striking range. (And I see our picture for Ridley Creek State Park was stripped from Dave Baron's Flickr photos. I imagine a falling hemlock would be good news for the groundhog. As long as he doesn't get crushed the root base would make a good home. Request re:India House

Hello Ruhrfisch, I was wondering if I could ask you for one more favour. India House is currently listed for FAC. A reviewer mentioned quite strongly that the text is not upto the mark. I dont know if it is really your field, but it may help of you had a look and suggested any improvement you feel maybe neccessary. bridge

Hi, I had a proper go at the lead; I need you to read the new version carefully to see that I haven't messed it up. In AmEng, I suspect many writers wouldn't hyphenate "arch truss" unless a double adjective, such as "arch-truss length". Unsure; it's probably easier for most readers with the hyphen. Damn, I see one at the bottom of the lead that's unhyphenated, and it will need checking throughout. The first image really jams the text badly unless you open the window up on a large screen. Can it go somewhere away from the infobox? In the future, perhaps consider using not such a featureless map; knowing where a few cities, major rivers and major roads are would be more helpful. I've been holding off on Leonard Harrison since you've been busy with the bridge. I've also been trying to complete the infoboxes for the PA municipalities. We are down to Allegheny, Greene and Westmoreland. I've been working on Westmo for several days. I think that this project will be finished soon. But I am also getting pretty sick of it and switching focus to Harrison might do me some good. There is also a new NC state park to write up, Dismal Swamp State Park. Anyway, we can start on Harrison when you are ready, but my work from home is very limited at this point, two girls and a wife demand lots of attention and by the time they are asleep I need to get to sleep too. WikiProject Articles needing copy edit (tentative name)

Hello there!

I have begun laying the groundwork for a new WikiProject that has a very simple goal, to improve Wikipedia by dealing with the articles tagged for copy edit, and I am wondering if you are interested in helping me start it. This project is not a clone of WP:LOCE because we will not deal with requests for review (that is currently handled by our good friends over at Peer Review).

I expect that this will be a relaxed, happy and casual WikiProject, because participants will be able to take things at their own pace and use the project page to ask other participants for help. The project proposal is here, and I have created an almost-functional project page in my userspace here.

There are now over 4000 articles needing copy edit, and very, very few people working on them, so any help, however small, is appreciated. If you are interested, please sign up at the proposal page. Once we have enough people, I will shift the project page, along with its subpages from my userspace into the Wikipedia namespace. For now we can use this section of my talk page to discuss the direction and details of the project, and, of course, its name. *grin*

I get lost in my mind quite often. I just started Youth Conservation Corps. Link spamming dispute

Hi. Sorry to be coming to you again for something, but I've got a problem with someone I suspected was a link spammer but I'm not sure anymore. See User talk:EagleFalconn#Solubility and User talk:EagleFalconn#Removed links. Thats pretty much the entirety of the issue. He added a link for some pKa prediction software on acid dissociation constant which I reverted because I didn't think it had much to do with the article and he's apparently got a history of being warned for link spams. Then I noticed he'd been putting them across several pages and I dropped a warning on his talk page about it. He makes a decent point in his comment that many competitors software is there. I'm inclined to say that the NPOV thing to do would be to remove all the commercial links. Which further begs the question, what do we do about the page they made for their company?
