Moss Vale Station[edit]

The picture of the signal box at MV would greatly improve that article. Can you upload it to Commons if that is possible? (JROBBO 05:18, 7 July 2006 (UTC))

I've just seen you pic of Coledale - that is excellent - thank you so much for that picture too! (JROBBO 05:20, 7 July 2006 (UTC))

Thanks! I'll put the signal box pic up as soon as I get back to my Gimp machine. On a similar note, do you know if it's within the scope of station articles to include information (and pictures) of railway features close up and down the line from the station? Or should this (I'm thinking of things like signals, drainage, bridges, etc.) go in the relevant line article? Sam Wilson 06:20, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Federal budget[edit]

I posted this after your discussion on the message board also. Yes the budget gets put into place in the following year reguardless of which government gets elected in the most recent election. Because the budget is deabted upon within the democratically appointed system of politicians it should not contain bias towards a particular political angle. I hope that clears things up, Jo WA —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.53.32.194 (talk) 04:06, 10 May 2007 (UTC).

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Information.svg Hello Samwilson! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 1,546 article backlog. Office of Wiki Intelligence[edit]

Seeing your request here, can I ask you for a favor? If you should come across anything about the subs based in Oz (USN, RN, RNN, RAN, whoever) in the process, would you link my talk to where you found it? I'm very interested in the subject, & haven't found much beyond what's in Blair. Thx. 23:15, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Sure, absolutely. (What's the 'Office of Wiki Intelligence', by the way?) — Sam Wilson ( TalkContribs ) … 03:55, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

WTF[edit]

(LOL at the abbreviation, too...)

I made something of a starter list at the talk page of the "Goals". Feel free to reduce it down as necessary - we never really discussed the scope, so I put in some items from South Fremantle, Beaconsfield and North Fremantle which may end up being out of scope. Haven't yet hit up the heritage list. Orderinchaos 17:30, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Am indeed! Will try and make it down but I can't promise anything, what with jetlag and the like. :P — Joseph Fox 08:54, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

history retention[edit]

HI Sam

I restored Wikipedia:Wikipedia Takes Fremantle to it form at the time of the original event, and created Wikipedia:Wikipedia Takes Fremantle 2 for the new event please dont destory one events history to create a new one as it changes the context of incoming links where they were associated with the previous event. Gnangarra 04:50, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Ah, good call. Thanks. I've fixed up the link on Wikipedia:Meetup/Perth. Sam Wilson 08:51, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
IMHO gven your position with FHS you have a WP:COI and should have at least gain some support from here before creating the event. looking at the target photo requirement suggested by a non editor(FHS person?) there doesnt appear to much benefit to Wikipedia from it. I also think the timing is rather inconsiderate given the Joondalup event had been planned for over a month. Gnangarra 10:59, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
I meant no offence, and I apologise if my actions have been taken amiss! I certinaly should've raised it here earlier, but actually I hadn't really given it any thought — the date was chosen and given to the Fremantle Festival organisers by someone else, and I didn't really have the energy at that point for more than a "oh yes, that sounds fine" sort of a thing. But a conflict of interest? Do you really think so?! My aim is to improve Commons' coverage of Fremantle, and I really don't see how working with the Fremantle Society conflicts with that — we all want the same thing. As for conflicting with Joondalup, I am sorry that they're so close together, but if Joondalup had been planned for over a month, I didn't know about it. There was nothing on the Meetup page, nor on WT:WA; I do look. Please don't think I'm inconsiderate. I might be slack, and disorganised, but I am trying to be helpful. —Sam Wilson 11:34, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Ok so maybe you dont have a COI but it sure quacked like it, "who is this someone else" why arent they involved in the wikiside of things at the very least the person making plans for using wikipedia should be a member of the community. The thing is OIC was the Wikipedian driving force for the previous Wikitakes Freo surely you would have contacted him to see if he'll help with this one. I dont doubt your intent to improve commons content but clearly the people driving this have other priorities, glaringly the shot list for the day will have scope issue when the photographs are uploaded. Its also going to have problems with personality rights and photographers will need to have release forms for images where the subject is the person, actually these should just be removed from the list. I hope you have success on the day while I cant attend send me a message when the uploading starts I'll help where I can. Gnangarra 12:56, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Kidogo[edit]

Had a request by another editor to assist in setting up an article for Kidogo Arthouse. I set up an draft outline, which never got used so I went in and did it myself. Knowing your interest in Freo and that you might have access to some further references or even some photos, thought you might want to cast your eye over the article before I posted it on the mainspace. Dan arndt (talk) 04:04, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Looks good! I'll see if I can help; probably be able to find something.  :-) I added one image, and a map link (and linked back to it from Openstreetmap). Thanks for telling me about it. Sam Wilson 06:14, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the image - lifts the article. Will maybe think about some more Freo based articles in the new year. Dan arndt (talk) 06:36, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

WTFr[edit]

Old Kerosene store

Finally got to them see http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Photographs_from_Wiki_Takes_Fremantle_2_by_Gnangarra for the photos I took during WTFr 2. Includes a couple of the Old Kerosene store that may be of use Gnangarra 04:23, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Also if near there and its still on display can you get an id on the piece in the foreground sculpture, name, date etc Gnangarra 04:25, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
I'll be down there this evening, will get what info I can then. :-) Have you come across Open Plaques by the way? I'm thinking of adding a pile of photos I've got of these sorts of things to it. Sam Wilson 01:40, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
The sculpture is by Mark Grey-Smith, son of Guy. Part of Beached, all those pieces on the gravel there. Sam Wilson 00:47, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre/Fly by Night[edit]

Just added Spare Parts Puppet Theatre and Fly by Night Club to the wikipedia mainspace - unfortunately there doesn't seem a lot of info on the buildings early history (ie actual date of construction, original uses etc) thought that you might be able to access something from the Fremantle Society archives. Dan arndt (talk) 03:52, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

I'm asking around. Interesting precursor to the Nissan hut, it would seem. There was some discussion about it when they chopped Parry Street through that bit, too, with a bit of coverage. We've got some of those documents... just not sorted out yet. Will keep you posted! Sam Wilson 01:54, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
Fascinating stuff - look forward to seeing what you manage to dredge up. Dan arndt (talk) 03:42, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Hey Sam. Did you or anyone at WPTPF get a picture of City Square (skyscraper)? The fair use image was deleted, because a free one is readily available. I forgot to mention that Saturday. --kelapstick(bainuu) 04:09, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

g'day g'day[edit]

When you start goin down that road, a careful distinction must be made = gunzo and mate have a good summary in Gunzburg, Adrian; Austin, Jeff; Rail Heritage WA; Gunzburg, Adrian; Austin, Jeff (2008), Rails through the bush : timber and firewood tramways and railway contractors of Western Australia (2nd ed ed.), Rail Heritage WA, ISBN 978-0-9803922-2-7  - not too sure where my copy is at this moment, but... towards the rear of the book is a section that should be a list here on wp en... as the average punter would be unawaere of the pwd role in rail construction prior to the 1st ww

  • oopps embarrassed - you hadlinked to the list - I am not 100% sure that it is the full list - thats the problem... SatuSuro 10:50, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Good start :) dont be so self effacing - be bold, do some more, it is a good start!!! SatuSuro 06:12, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! Yes, I shall try to write more. There seems to be a fair bit available... I'll keep digging.  :-) I've got that list from Gunzburg now, so I'll fill that in at least. Hmm... was there originally a line directly from East Perth across the river? Sam Wilson 06:34, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
Read what I have added top the article - and follow your nose - the bridges, the related articles (for links), and generally the sections between the places are worth pursuing - Armadale to Pinjarra, etc - also the south west line, and by coincidince I have in my custody original survey drawings with o'connors sign on some :) - try to meet up with me in the next month or so and we might have fun with them (so to speak).. Now there is a category heaps of things can be linked - all the places with railway stations can in effect become part of the category.. SatuSuro 06:38, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
Most locality articles are ahistorical and ignorant of the historical process -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/South_Western_Railway,_Western_Australia is a sign of what has started - that list should double or more if the localities are treated like the Pinjarra one.SatuSuro 06:43, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
BTW thanks v much for adding to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_railways_constructed_by_the_Public_Works_Department_of_Western_Australia in my case too much started not enough finished - so to speak - gotta jump - cheers for the mo! SatuSuro 06:46, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
No worries, and thank you for being so helpful! There's so much to do... :) I'll see how far I get. Sam Wilson 07:26, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
oops caught out by rain up here - waiting for a dry patch - another thought - the survey info in the history section on the armadale line article is totally meaningless to the average punter and quite pointless... - the thing is to have trove or other good cites to back up every comment... and in the case of the armadel line article to trim rather than expand - with links wherever possible... SatuSuro 07:47, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

Bugger - spent over half an hour creating a new and illustrated Old Bunbury railway station article and lost it. damnation, will have to get back agin in a day or two and do it again... grrrrr SatuSuro 08:21, 13 October 2012 (UTC) Bingo - fixed! on the way, possibly most railway stations on the line have a sufficient notability to have historical material... and old photos perhaps... Bunbury railway station SatuSuro 13:41, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

Doing well - youre an inspiration! - hey we'll get somewhere with all this - cheers - thanks - etc - SatuSuro 14:16, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
Bunbury railway station looks good! I've put that table from Gunzburg up here, if you need to refer to it. And I'd love to meet up sometime and figure out some directions of research.  :-) Oh, and do you know about the naming of the Bunbury Bridge? It seems to be referred to as the Swan Bridge sometimes. Dream list for ports[edit]

Yep, I reckon a good idea.
