Guidelines for writing the Ethnic Groups of the Philippines Article

Hi seav, we're discussing guidelines in writing the Ethnic groups in the Philippines article in the Tambayan. Would appreciate your inputs! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:TAMBAY#Guidelines_for_writing_the_Ethnic_Groups_of_the_Philippines_Article btw, congrats with the POTD! --Nino Gonzales 14:02, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

AfD

Pls visit AfD Cyberservices, and see an article created by the same "user" - AfD Philippine Cyberservices Corridor. Pls encourage more well known users to make a vote. I have a suspicion that there will be a flood of posts from anons, and new users in those two AfDs. Thanks. Wikipedia is not for promotion. --Noypi380 11:46, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

So which region is Palawan?

hehehe, i just posted in your google blog before i figured out i could post here; feel free to delete that one since it's so off-topic. so anyway, i was just checking NCSB and they still list palawan as region 4, since the move to region 6 is blocked. is there some other more recent EO or AO that says Palawan is now definitely moved to region 6? btw, as i've said in that other post, i love your maps--congrats on pic of the day--and wiki articles; i referred to them continually while doing my thesis. i was actually wondering if i could collab with you after my thesis defense is finished? i was required to finish only cordillera but i was hoping to finish the entire philippines. i can give more details via email. please let me know either way if you're interested or not or too busy.  ;) cheers! -- corey

CMM vs. CMMI

Help for a newbie, please! Seems like there should be separate entries for CMM and CMMI. Best I can tell, you created the redirect from CMMI to CMM; is that correct? Is there discussion somewhere about redirect vs. separate pages for CMM/CMMI? Do I just create a new CMMI page, or does the redirect need to be removed somehow?. Thanks! --Xsmith 02:40, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Request

Hi Seav,

My name is Fernanda Viégas and I have been studying Wikipedia for a while now (you can see a paper I published on the subject here). I would like to ask you a few questions about your activities as a Wikipedia "illustrator." I am fascinated by the pictorial side of Wikipedia and it would be great to hear about this community from one of its members. Would you be available for an email interview? Thanks, Fernanda.

Maps

Hello there, I'm from Indonesia, and I want to make a pretty locator maps for every regencies in Indonesia. I've made several, but it looks bad (e.g. [1] and [2]). I made it by directly exporting from ESRI's Arcview to Microsoft Paint. Do you have any idea to make the pretty map (like yours)? What software/font should I use? Indonesia is an archipelago country, just like the Philippines =)

Source files for Manila map

Your Manila map is amazing -- can I just double-confirm that it's also multi-licensed until CC by-sa 1.0, as stated on your user page? Also, do you have the original source of the map somewhere (PSD, SVG, etc), so it could be modified for use on Wikitravel? Jpatokal 08:57, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Image:Ph_physical_map.png up for delisting from WP:FP

Hey Seav, I just noticed your image Image:Ph_physical_map.png is up for delisting from WP:FP. Do you still have the source files? If so, what did you use to create the map? Could an SVG version be provided (terrain shading looks like bitmap data though)? It would enable higher quality reproductions and make translations of the map for other wikipedias easier. Cheers, Dschwen 09:29, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Hiya Seav, I came here for the same reason. Sorry when I nominated your map for delisting, I didn't notice it had been created by a wikipedian or I'd have come here first. I had run a script to identify pictures that hadn't been through the formal FPC nomination process and I was ploughing through lots of them. Anyway if you are able to provide a larger (or even an svg) version I'll be glad to withdraw the nomination. The map may well be kept in any case of course, and you are very welcome to come along and vote for keeping your own image even if you no longer have the source files ~ VeledanTalk 11:57, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
I just read your note on the delisting page. I don't think most people will require a SVG, just a bit bigger. Nothing extra is really needed. Thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia. I know it can be a thankless job to create something and then have people complain, so I just thought I'd pass along a word of gratitude. See ya. --LV (Dark Mark) 15:56, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

Google Maps

Haha.. you and me both, I've never been to Mindanao. But I still enjoy looking at the satellite images. Actually, it can get kind of depressing seeing how dirty and poorly planned our cities are compared to first world countries. Well, it's interesting... Coffee 12:16, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Hope you don't mind if I used your maps to create a new map. Howard the Duck | talk, 04:28, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

You have a fan

You seem to have a fan at abs-cbnnews.com... right now there's a close-up of part Image:Ph_map_manila_large.png on their front page, down at the "special feature" section. And about a week ago I saw them use Image:Ph_locator_ncr_taguig.png. :p Coffee 03:21, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Map

Hey, how's Pinoy Wikidom's favorite mapmaker?  ;-) I just have a question - what do use to make maps? I am thinking of making a language map for Bikol and Tagalog - I want to color the areas where they are native to. The Bikol one would be more complex since it would have 4 types of colors depending on the certain towns in the Bicol region. Is there any program that you use or do you do something else? I'm awfully curious. Maraming salamat. --Chris S. 02:28, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

If you need any help, feel free to contact me.

PS: I took the company car (pictured left) out for a spin, and well... it's not quite how I pictured it. --Chris S. 23:58, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

PH provinces

Hi Seav, IMO the primary redirects are ok in most cases, and also I do not feel that strong about "X (province)" vs "X Province". Maybe the "X (province)" is even the better one. best regards Tobias Conradi (Talk) 14:31, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Just wanna let you know that I wrote the above _before_ Chris Sundita with abuse of admin rights reverted the moves. The above only was meant as a friendly gesture or to tell you that I won't revert. I thought this would be good after the disputes we had in January of this year. Unfortunatly there now is a new dispute. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 13:56, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Vincente Piccio

I agree with you that the article says nothing of such ethnic origins so the categories do not fit, but the name could not be more Italian. What to do to find the facts? Thanks Hmains 04:55, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Same with Sotto: an obvious Italian name. Thanks Hmains 05:05, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

OK thanks.

Other Filipino articles

By the way, what do you think generally about (those few) WP bio articles on Filipinos of various ethnic/national origins. Good to identify their origins or not? Good to put them in origin categories or not based on what the articles say? Thanks Hmains 06:52, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Categories: Filipino people by ethnic or national origin and Overseas Filipinos

Category:Filipino people by ethnic or national origin Category:Overseas Filipinos

I have no access to research resources, so my work in WP is limited to the area of copyedits and categories. In the matter of categories, I think that the facts in the articles ('right' until changed by the WP editing/review process) should be the basis on which an article is connected to any given category.

That said, I wonder if you might take a look at the two categories above and their sub-categories. Especially, in the 'ethnic/national origin' subcategories, there are not too many articles so they can all be read/worked on in a few hours. Yesterday, I worked on these articles. In cases, where the ethnic/national origins are stated in the article, the categories seem correct to me--but I did leave some discussion notes on various articles where it is not clear that the categories can be justified. Perhaps you have access to, or knowledge of, the facts and can write them into the article where necessary and fix the categories accordingly.

I might add that I am "in a discussion" with another editor who, earlier this week, did a mass delete of all these category connections. In effect, he is saying he knows better than all previous editors of the facts stated in the articles and, in his mind, almost none of the categories can be justified. He expects me to document every ethnic/national origin statement in the articles or he will delete the categories again. As I said above, I have no way to research/document any article fact--I just use the article text, as is. Also, most sentences in WP articles are not 'documented'; for better or for worse, that is the way it is, with article content depending on the good faith and collective efforts of all WP editors, I suppose.

I happen to believe that ethnic/national categories are important in helping to show the movement of individuals from country to country and helping to 'know' the person in the article better. They also help illustrate the 'ethnic origin' articles, proving there are actual named people who fit that origin.

Thanks for anything you can do. Hmains 15:56, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Tagalog Wikipedia

Sir, I will be busy with work for the next few weeks so I was hoping that you will check out the tl wiki from time to time for vandalisms and others. Thanks. --bluemask (talk) 17:11, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Photos

The following articles need accompanying photos: Claro M. Recto, Raul Manglapus, Jose Diokno. If anyone can help. Also someone to start an article on Lorenzo Tanada. thanks!

Hello. I'm planning to replace those three templates into one unified template. The draft can be found at User:Howard the Duck/Pinoy. Since you are the creator of the templates, I figured to ask your permission first. The three templates can be redirected to the new template name so that the templates would not have to be deleted. --Howard the Duck 05:24, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I'd like them omitted. We can always retain {{Philippine regions}}, though. --Howard the Duck 07:32, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
I've added a link to a list of regions, because they're aren't really political divisions, but I thought it'll be a blunder if I'll omit them. Exception for ARMM because it has actual political power. What do you think? --Howard the Duck 15:47, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

== Blank Philippine map (with provincial boundaries) and Metro Manila (with city and municipal boundaries) ==

Can you help me?

Maps about to be deleted from Wikitravel

Greetings -- some of your maps, currently used on Wikitravel, are about to be deleted [3] [4] there because it's not 100% clear that they are multi-licensed also under Creative Commons. Please reply and confirm that they are. Jpatokal 02:04, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Locator Maps - Chocolate Hills and Philippine Tarsier

Hi! I am currently working on several Philippine-related articles. I wonder if you can help me on a couple of things, particularly on locator maps for the Chocolate Hills in Bohol, and the Philippine Tarsier. Thanks!!! Mabuhay ang Pilipino!Pinay06 04:23, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Just checking on whether the above request is possible...--Pinay06 09:45, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Hello. Sorry, I'm quite busy with work (I'm in Tokyo now) so I might not be able to make your requested maps in a timely manner. I'll get around to it eventually, that is if others won't be able to do it ahead of me. :p --seav 12:41, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Okey. Best of luck to you in Tokyo. --Pinay06 20:50, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

SVD Schools in the Philippines

I am also working on the SVD Schools in the Philippines. So far, I've only worked on stubs, except for Holy Name University and University of San Carlos. Can you also help with locator maps for each school? Please...Salamat!Pinay06 04:26, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Sandugo and Sandugo Festival

Please comment on whether there is a need to make a separate article for the Blood Compact/Sandugo and a separate one for the Sandugo Festival.--Pinay06 08:43, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Graphics Lab

I saw your name listed on Wikiproject Illustration or the list of graphic artists, and I thought I'd let you know that a Graphics Lab has been created on EN. Based on the highly successful French and German graphics labs, it seeks to better organise and coordinate our graphic design and photo-editing efforts. Up until now, there has been no common space on EN where users could ask for maps, charts and other SVG files to be created. What's more, the Graphics Lab has discussion boards, tips, tools and links; in sum, a good common workspace. Come help us out! The infrastucture is already in place, and now we need participants. :) --Zantastik talk 02:07, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Let's vote for Mariano Trias

Hey there Seav! I would like to ask for your vote for the article of Mariano Trias in Wikipedia's Article Creation and Improvement Drive. It's nearing it's deadest deadline.

I believe that this article still needs a bit of clean-up and expansion. I hope you would vote for the article in this link as soon as possible.

Thanks a lot!!! ---- Kevin Ray 13:55, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
