Mountains of Italy[edit]

The next one Template:Mountains of Lazio has been made... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 15:12, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Great one, Cydebot has cocked up the Brazilian category system see Category:Cities in Rio Grande do Sul. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 00:18, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You've been rather quiet of late. Run out of steam? I've managed to replace all the US state maps with better quality svgs but now I have all the cities to work through by state and make them look like Allakaket, Alaska. That will be a start, even if most of them need a lot of work..

Created List of Bulgarian writers. Needs checking though as there are some duff name translations. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:50, 5 March 2010 (UTC) Sounds like you've been having fun..... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:52, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The names are now corrected.... But you don't speak Bulgarian so they can't be started... I've created Template:Bulgaria-writer-stub but they haven't been stub sorted yet... When I said you've been quiet I meant you haven't said much of late and have kept a low profile not your contributions.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 14:56, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

By a strange coincidence the very same person who is responsible for the Romanian ones is also responsible for Moldova... Oh I know about Moldova its on my todo list, but hopefully Romanian will be done swiftly and then we'll see about Moldova. If Kot can't do it then the task is manageable manually perhaps... I'm sticking with sorting out the American city maps at the moment though and creating lists.. Have you seen just how many red links are in the lists I've been creating of late? Scary.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 15:16, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just wish there was a way to bot generate all the red links in List of Italian Christian Democracy politicians for instance translated from Italian and with sources... It's difficult to succeed otherwise. If I try sub stubbing them I'll have nasty complaints but if I start each one slowly with full translated content and sources then I'm likely to lose interest after like 5 or so. Darn the quality vs quantity thing! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 15:20, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey its a waste of electricity falling asleep in front of the TV! I wonder if any of these other politicians are anything like Silvio Berlusconi. He's like a caricature of a rich dirty old man isn't he! I can't believe some of the things he said after the earthquake than they should "treat it as a camping vacation". He must have the mental age of thirteen. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 15:46, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I think "comically insane" is a perfect description. Traficant looks a weirdo though, reminds me of Warren Zevon, he was a wacko too. I bet the Roman Catholic clergy strongly disapprove of Berlusconi's morals and think they have a disgustingly rich playboy rogue running the country.

I think that must be the most obvious wig I've ever seen.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 16:05, 8 March 2010 (UTC) Yeah theres something suspicious going on with the Ruben Diaz article. Its as if somebody knows and dislikes him or something. Also the same editor has done the same to other flamenco musicians liviing in Canada like Diaz..I had no idea it would create such traffic... It is irritating though that the user keeps adding stupid citation tags to it though... I almost ANI'd him but he has a point about the nationality; I had originally though he was Mexican but somebody changed it to Spanish. And lo and behold the ip who tried to reinsert something is from Toronto... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:54, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here also. Very odd... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 23:01, 8 March 2010 (UTC) Actually some of the city articles are OK, not "awful" as such. But they make a hell of a lot of difference with photographs, decent pin maps and a history section above all. The town and unincorporated community articles are the worst, but the majority of the small city articles could still do with improvement. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 15:47, 9 March 2010 (UTC) Oh LOL, that article is way better than most of the ones I've seen for Alaska and Alabama. The vast majority though are like Jenkins, Kentucky. Not awful just very bland. I mean I'd rather than at least they are mostly consistent because of rambot. But where it went wrong is just few people are turning them into proper articles with detailed history/pictures etc. Most of them leave me cold and I get the impression thaey are lacking in TLC. This really surprises me as you'd think there would be US wikipedians from every county on wikipedia building these articles.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:23, 9 March 2010 (UTC) The biggest difference for me is a referenced history section and a photograph/pin map in the infobox. That makes them superior in my view than the standard Rambot ones. I like pictures and history in articles... Fort Payne, Alabama actually looks like a place and interesting.... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:46, 9 March 2010 (UTC) Do you live in a bungalow like File:Bungalows.jpg? I wish we had houses like that over here! I love the stairs and the porches on them.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:09, 9 March 2010 (UTC) Nice... Bungalows are for southern red necks eh? Still cool houses. We do have our fair share of them over here of course. My favourite though are lodges in the winter and villas in the summer. Ooh I'd love a cosy lodge by a lake in Canada or something.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:25, 9 March 2010 (UTC) I was kidding actually. You live in a very classy area of the states. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:33, 9 March 2010 (UTC) I caught a bit of American Idol a few weeks back and they were auditioning in Georgia or Alabama. LOL one of the girls was a stereotype, lived in a trailer, spoke with a barely intelligible Forrest Gump type accent and had platinum blonde hair. Of course the southern male stereotyle sports a mullet and a moustache, drives a pickup truck/trailer and wears a check shirt and cap... (not to disimilar from the Alaskan stereotype lol. But I must admit when I hear a strong southern accent I get visions of a mullet man with a dodgy moustache like on Jerry Springer LOL.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:41, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd bet though that our version of the chav is probably worse... At least the southern mullet man has some dress standards... Over here the Adidas track suit bottoms and Burberry cap rules amongst the chavs... Much like the ghetto superstars although there is nothing worse than a pale white British wanabee dressed like he is from the Bronx! I'd say Bridgend and Newport are the two worst areas for those sorts of people... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:54, 9 March 2010 (UTC) Yep plenty of File:ChavSitting.jpg's... Such class... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:57, 9 March 2010 (UTC) LOL wiki is such a blag. Both Newport and Bridgend look like lovely historical places on here with certain select images. If only you knew... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:59, 9 March 2010 (UTC) Yeah I'd have to agree with you actually. I remember some of shady folk in the towns in the Pacific northwest like Spokane, worse than even some of the villages in NYC. Spokane was so bad that I didn't sleep at the motel the night we stayed there as I was practically expecting the door to be kicked in... And I do of course remember those genuine white trash people on Jerry Springer in the 90s. They are pretty embarrassing just like the trash over here that appears on the Jeremy Kyle show. Mostly we try to ignore these people eh?.... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:09, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah that's exactly what I mean. I look at the Richmond article and see picture like File:Landmark Theater Richmond Virginia.jpg and I expect the whole city to be wonderfully clean and classy. That's my major concern is that there is the tendency for people to show the best of their towns for a wikipedia article rather than what actually represents the majority and actual environment and feel to the city. For instance Spokane, Washington looking at the article looks like a nice place. I'd say it is actually the roughest town I ever visited in the states. Worse in my view than what I saw of downtown LA, Miami and some of the areas of NYC. Downtown Spokane was seriously shifty... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:16, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah it was like that in Spokane. I remember we walked through the downtown area to visit (the actually pleasant park) and I must admit I've never felt such a threat of being mugged or shot or whatever in my life. On the way back in the dusk there was drug dealers and prostitutes on the corners, sleazy guys watching us walk by from their seedy tattoo parlours etc. The place stunk of garbage. Really dreadful. Yeah I've been to Ottawa too. There are many derelict areas, infact what I remember most about it was the Canadian mounties on horseback and the blocls upon blocks of derelict buildings with scafolding and few workers insight... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:24, 9 March 2010 (UTC) Actually when I visited Miami in 1992 I witnessed a bank robbery! We were in a minibus and I remember coming out from under a bridge in downtown Miami and immediately across the street on the left there was this transit van waiting and I saw a group of masked robbers storm out the bank and bundle into the van!! I wondered where Miami Vice was when they were really needed!! I still remember the Sadie's restaurant though. Home of 400 pound fatties. In those days it was all you could eat for $2.99. I am aware than in 80s it was $1.99. We were astounded with the quantity of food people were eating or could eat for such a bargain! Everybody in the family even my father who has a bottomless pit for a stomach and super metabolism put on 10-20 pounds in 3 weeks in Florida... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:30, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Have you ever been to the UK? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:39, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford and York are very pleasant cities. Nope never been to D.C. I've been to NYC, New York State, Pennsylvania and Bangor, Maine though. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:01, 9 March 2010 (UTC) We drove from NYC up through New York State, through Pennsylania to Erie. Then we drove up to Niagara and up to Toronto. Good trip, some nasty motels though... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:14, 9 March 2010 (UTC) Yeah nice scenery, I've done the Rockies too which was lovely. I always think though the Appalachians look the most stunning though. Some of the scenery I've seen of New England is spectacular. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:34, 9 March 2010 (UTC) Did you notice today's featured picture? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 15:20, 11 March 2010 (UTC) A shame though that the article isn't of a similar quality... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 15:47, 11 March 2010 (UTC) Same guy? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:02, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Obedience Robbins[edit]

Hi, I'm not sure that the name Robins was used until later. I have seen him listed in books as Robbins. We can make a note on his page that he is also written about as Robins, I suppose. Dwain (talk) 20:01, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thrypticomyia[edit]

Hi there. You created Thrypticomyia using AWB, but seem to have incomplete replacement of the previous genus created (Thaumastoptera). I thought I should leave it to you to check and update as required. Cheers. Heds (talk) 05:56, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a re-look at Laura Kelley. Though the single-topic editor has added some references, none of them seem to demonstrate notability; see Talk. Time for AFD, I think.... --macrakis (talk) 21:11, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Italic title[edit]

OK, so I'm working through the list of arthropod categories here. I skipped the crustaceans, so you could start there if interested. If you wanted to stick to insects, perhaps you could start at the Lepidoptera categories. I'll keep going from where I'm up to - Culicidae - until I catch up to you. We can keep in touch. I thought about setting up a subpage under my user page to track this work. Happy to do so if it makes things easier for us to manage.

I'm up to Lepidoptera now. Will keep going. If you do have the time among other tings to help, get in touch and I'll suggest a starting point. Cheers. Heds (talk) 02:27, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I should have said, I see that you're pretty busy on other things, so don't stress about doing any of this.Heds (talk) 03:07, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Settings[edit]

Is there an easier way of sharing settings?

Filter:

  • Namespaces to keep are Content, Wikipedia:
  • Matches: Remove titles containing: "List" (I manually skip articles with common name titles or higher taxa. Can't think of a clever way of doing it - eg, can't auto skip articles ending in -idae)

Options:

  • I've been applying general fixes only

More:

  • Enable Prepend: text is , use 1 newline character

Skip:

  • Match contain: "

Start:

  • Summary: Add {{italictitle}} (& restore name = to taxobox if required), per [[Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Arthropods#Italic_titles_.28continued.29|this discussion]]

Other things[edit]

  • Where I add {{italictitle}} to an article, I add | name = ''{{BASEPAGENAME}}'' to the taxobox as a mechanism for quickly adding the genus or species name per the article name.
  • Where I encounter it, I replace {{DISPLAYTILE}}, even though it performs the same function.
  • I've been keeping an eye out for articles that fail to italicise throughout, easily detectable by the opening to the lead-in.

Thanks[edit]

Just to say thanks for your work on new page patrol, I've seen you quite a lot and you are a great help. Category:Rogier van der Weyden paintings was a nice move. Ceoil sláinte 21:35, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, but categories are beyond me! I'm always unsure about how to capitalise painting titles, but page moved Portrait of a Young Girl following your example. Anyway thanks and I suppose I'll see you again! Ceoil sláinte 21:52, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
'Saves you for thinking for yourself - Har remind me of a joke - Why the accountant cross the road? Because that's what was done in the prior year. You right though, I do a lot of cut and paste and then modify when it comes to the mark up stuff on wiki. I used to be a dab hand at html back in the late 90s, but wiki mark up is rough. Citation templates? Dont understand like or want to know them. Ceoil sláinte 22:03, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The uniforminity thing bugs me evey so often, though I am guilty as anybody. Like if you think about it, what we are doing is largely summarising the internet in a homogenise format. The format is very rigid, and infoboxes are the worst offenders here. And woe betides the person who left align a lead img talk page disaster here. Ceoil sláinte 22:13, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, thanks for plesant link. There is not lot of her work on line, unfortunatly. Ceoil sláinte 01:59, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject National Register of Historic Places tags[edit]

Some time ago you added {{WikiProject National Register of Historic Places}} to a bunch of pages and used "start" as the class (i.e. Talk:Alfred Douglass House, Talk:Charles H. Burgess House, etc.) Are you a member of this project? Many of these articles are stubs at best. –xenotalk 16:55, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am, on and off - looks like I neglected to change the marking to "stub" when I created them. Sorry about that. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:12, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Could you kindly go back through and fix them to the proper rating? (183 pages) My bot running at the sponsorship of WP:MASS is getting confused because the articles house a {{stub}} template but are rated start by NRHP. Thanks, –xenotalk 17:16, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure thing. I'll take care of it this evening. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:27, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Beaches[edit]

Heres something weird. I was just browsing some UK coastal town articles and looking for one to expand over the weekend which has enough info in sources. As I was doing so I was remembering a beach called Freshwater West I used to surf at. Then I revisited the Haverfordwest article I edited the other day and clicked Rhys Ifans. Then I clicked the Harry Potter article he is due to appear is and lo and behold I come across this. Apparently they are filming part of the film actually on Fresh Water west beach in this cottage. Isn't that very very unlikely I would have come across that? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:15, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I mean the likelihood of Harry Potter filming at a practically deserted beach in west Wales and for me to have been thinking about that beach (which I haven't in ages) just a minute before coming across the Harry Potter article... I may look at your article on the weekend. But tomorrow I plan on writing Leith Hall in Aberdeenshire. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:39, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks with Ephraim Fombi[edit]

I was in Italy several times and my Spanish did me well. I remember my group was looking for Michaelango's David and the native we stopped is rattling off words like a machine gun. Meanwhile my eager buddies are tugging at my sleeve wanting an instaneous translation because they wanted to get there now. Turns we were four blocks away but had to take a traffic circle in. Then there was this lady's 40th birthday and the son is trying to impress us with his English. I'm answering him in Spanish so his parents can follow. When he told me his mom's age, I said you probably want to keep that a secret as woman don't like their age being revealed (in English). --Morenooso (talk) 06:40, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My operatic Italian has helped me more than I can recall. Actually, it's been more useful than the year of college Italian I took. French came in handy in Poland, surprisingly, when I was there a couple of years ago. I also know a small amount of Russian, which helped me while I was in the Balkans. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:42, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
We gotta stop meeting like this on articles. My girlfriend is becoming worried. Just kidding, how are you doing?
Looks like that was a small number update. Oops, here comes my girlfriend. Gotta go! --Morenooso (talk) 17:48, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hannah Kearney info box picture[edit]

Dear Ser Amantio di Nicolao,

Thank you for your interest in the Hannah Kearney article. Infoboxes that I have seen typically use a thumbnail to keep the box at a uniform width. Therefore, I reverted your edit of 250 px, which also dropped the caption typical of infoboxes.

Sincerely, User:HopsonRoad 04:21, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Category renaming and mergeing[edit]

Hi Ser Amantio di Nicolao

I'm sorry that I am posting here rather belatedly to draw your attention to a discussion at User talk:Himalayan Explorer#Consensus_for_these_category_moves.3F, which involves you. I should have notified you earlier.

As noted there, the category renamings which you carried out on behalf of Himalayan Explorer should not have been done in that way; these steps should be taken by seeking a consensus at WP:CFD, after which there are dedicated bots which implement that consensus.

I'm sure that you acted in good faith by using AWB to action the request of another editor ... but for future reference please may I remind you that per Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage#Guide, you should not use AWB to do "anything controversial", and you should "abide by all Wikipedia guidelines, policies and common practices". Category merges and renamings are very hard to reverse, which is why Wikipedia:Categories for discussion exists as a process to seek consensus before any changes. WP:BOLD also notes that boldness is less applicable in categories, and has a specific section at WP:BOLD#Category_namespace.

Thanks! --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:50, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Czech Republic[edit]

Ooh I found an AWB job for you! See this. I believe Kotbot created all those Czech municipalities back in August. I don't think they were all tagged? Dr. Blofeld White cat 22:19, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'm about to upload some deritatives of it actually to illustrate the exterior section. I'll add them shortly... Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:59, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There you go. Thanks for the photo! Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:16, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can you find me the PDF for Lloyd House (Alexandria, Virginia)?. Dr. Blofeld White cat 22:22, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanksm expanded. Any chance you could visit the house sometime and take some inside photos? It is open to thepublic right? Its proposed for a DYK. If you could take some photos of the interior this would be great... Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:52, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for doing those talk pages! Oh I do like the look of Virginia and its early history too. Manor houses and hotels and historic sites have always interested me anyhow. Could you find me the PDF for Alexandria City Hall? The current article is a little lacking. First of all though a meaty stub on Hermeston Hall coming right up.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:06, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well Hermy hall its a start class! I can't find many sources though. I also can't find any more sources to expand Gouverneto Monastery into a DYK. I'll expand the city hall article a little later. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:06, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK yes upload them, but its interiors I'm more interested in!! Like with Virginia House I think the article becomes much more valuable when you can see whats inside the building!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:11, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've written the history for Alexandria City Hall. Hopefully I'll get the architecture exterior and interior added either this evening or tomorrow. It will feature as a DYK too... Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:28, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I did google image to try to find a black and white picture or painting but couldn't find one. No worries about modern exterior pics I have three uploaded in the commons to use and access to more. If the pics are of other views of the building then by all means upload them. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:48, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've added some more and some pics. The only other image I have is a side angle of the southern facade, but I cropped your image and prefer it as a panorama- its a perfect view. If you have any photos different than the ones already particularly the east and north sides of the hall this would be great. I only have to add the interior section now though. Perhaps I could contact the alexandria government and request interior photos. I dunno... Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:55, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I could actually crop one of the existing images for a close up of the clock tower. I'd say though we are OK for images now, although one or two of the interior would go down nicely, perhaps a interior photo from inside the south entrance and from inside the western clock tower entrance. That would be cool!! Maybe it is open on a Saturday or whatever I dunno... If at any time it is open when you are home please take some photos! Thanks for your effort to date in photographs. I wish other people would do the same in every other town in the states....Now why can't somebody create an American geograph project like we have in the UK eh and freely license their images in the same way? Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:02, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah by all means upload any you have. Especially if they are of the opposite side of the main image the north and and the eastern end. The ones we have at present are the south and west. Well I didn't imagine that you'd be photographing the rooms like Virginia House! but I was thinking of one in the lobby looking up the staircase to the second floor etc. If certain rooms are publicy accessible and not off limits if you do have time to visit the building again soon then this would be "very" welcome. Just intrigued as to what it looks like inside that's all... Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:21, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, looks like I'll have to put the African geography on hold for now. Possibly I'll finish the rest of the Benin arrondissements and expand the communes but I anticipate in the next few months doing more work on European and US stuff. You take for granted that they will have developed by now but where the German and French speaking places are, e.g France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria in particular (I know Spanish, Italian and other places suffer the same) it is like a vacuum of information as the vast majority of wiki editors in the world interested in these places are contributing to the other wikis instead. The majority of municipalities as you may know are empty stubs which really ought to be start class articles by now. So I think I'll be giving more TLC to these articles adding maps/photos to articles like Gaschurn and expanding articles on the municipalities in central Europe mainly (see the last two articles in Template:Municipalities of Slovenia I expanded earlier) and the odd US and Asia/Africa articles. But right now I think it is neccessary to work on these.... |Eventually it would be nice to be able to browse countries in the Europe at least and not see any empty stubs.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:54, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is. If you pick a random town in Austria like Nenzing... A tremendous amount of work needs to go into them...I suspect that in another three years time the situation will be similar. It might take ten years at least to get these French/German articles up to half decent status... I somehow wish all the wikipedias were all united as one project which would correctly put the same version of an article in a different language. This would remove much of the biases and problems and massively improve the site in my view.... Just imagine somebody in say Czech Republic writing a nice article in Czech on an actress or church or something and having access to it in English instantly within the same encyclopedia.. The core goal of wikipedia is to provide the sum of all knowledge of the highest quality to anybody on the planet in their own language. You would think that the first step to accomplishing this would remove the uneveness betwene the wikipedias and allow everybody to contribute to one encyclopedia in their own language and have the same version of articles instantly accessible in anybody's language of choice. Just imagine how many millions of hours of hard work would be saved be people on other wikipedias having to translate our articles into theirs and use transwikying when we could have it now. Many of the wikipedias are in all honesty severely lacking and are never likely to gain access to a high aquality encyclopedia in their own language... Kotniski did propose this before and I honestly think it would be the best decision wikipedia ever made. But there are many implications of course which would prevent this happening... . Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:25, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh it wouldn't be machine translated with bad english or anything. I think potentially there could be some sort of tool box thing like in the google translator tool kit which would allow editors in the native language who speak the other language to be able to approve translations and post them and work together. But as you say some things don't translate very well and it would be too problematic and there is also likely to be the same problem in contributors to approve the different language versions anyway. It is just frustrating the growing gaps between wikipedias in many parts. I guess at least you can use google translate to read some info on another wikipedia if the english one uis empty but I can't help thinking that people in the world having to produce 250 versions of the same article is grossly unproductive. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:44, 24 March 2010 (UTC).[reply]

On second thoughts just imagine how many conflicts would break out over POV and nationlism... I have an AWB request. Can you do this for all of the articles in Template:Municipalities in Vorarlberg except the district capitals and the three in Dornbirn district.. Expand German tag (all of them have full article I know as I've been adding photos and maps), switch the district nav box with a state one and add a commons link as they all have commons images! Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:08, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK be careful though not to tag the main towns which are already developed and have links!! You'll find the majority are empty stubs. And anyway even if few people do translate the German info the google translate link is there for anybody wanting more info in the meantime anyway! If it runs smoothly the next state can be done then. The good thing is that I'm going through the articles adding maps and images first so I know what the situation is one German wiki and in the commons and whether its worth adding the links.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:22, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No luck with visiting the City Hall? It would have been good to have you photos accessed on the main page.. The Austria AWB can be done whenever you feel like it! Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:57, 29 March 2010 (UTC) Emailed. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:19, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Neocladura[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Neocladura. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Neocladura. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:14, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Migrant boat incidents[edit]

Hello Ser Amantino! I saw your edits on migrant boat-related incidents on some of which I tried to bring a contribution or two of my own. I would appreciate if you could take a look at the questions I raised here Category Talk: Migrant boat incidents and comment if you judge necessary. I asked a couple of other users whom I thought would show interest. I am not fully comfortable with the present terminology under which I categorized the incidents treated in relevant articles and a few recent examples such as the discussions which took place around Upper Big Branch disaster leads me into thinking that the best suitable wording is primordial even when the event's front page potential hopes are rather slight. Your attention is needed[edit]

First thanks alot for your edits. I really appreciate it. But you have added the category of "Zala County" to "Salman Farsi Dam", which does not make sense. Since the dam is in Iran. Anyways I did not know that I had to capitalize the D in Dam. Thank you for doing it. But I have created all the articles with small d. So sorry about that. Thanks again.--Irooniqermez (talk) 00:45, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. And many thanks for your contribs on my pages. I have created them all with small d. Even those on List of power stations in Iran. I am tired, so I will change them later on. Thank you again.--Irooniqermez (talk) 00:52, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals/2010/April. I've proposed a Iran-dam-stub. Also this editor has created a load of new articles without categories, Can you cover his latest ones later? Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:16, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks also for filling in for me on the stub proposals page. I've been so busy I'd forgotting about stub proposals! Looks like I might be inaugurating a lot of Bhutan stubs today.... Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:33, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I spotted the Kenyan stubs. I don't have a problem with articles on settlements (of course) but Mattgirling is using false data from fallingrain, estimates within a 7km radius etc which are known to be grossly inaccurate. Remember that Tibetan town of 35,000 falling rain claimed 800 odd? Falling rain was supposed to have been blacklisted. I don't want to stop Mattgirling from creating articles but I hope you understand that creating hundreds of articles with false data is creating a problem. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:36, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If it were accurate I'd be rejoicing at his new stubs. It puts me in a strange position because I want articles about these places naturally but we now have hundreds of false articles. Falling rain should be blacklisted asap. If we can arrange a reliable source for Matt to use instead I'd be the first to support him, you know that. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:48, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've spoken to him. He could create the benin villages and others like this as long as he doesn't use falling rain data. In fact you and I could help find sources for him to use. You seem more aware them even I am of what is missing in terms of districts and divisions on statoids! But first of all a big AWB job will be needed to remove the false data adn reference, to categorize the articles by province of Kenya and to stub sort the Kenya-geo-stub into the appropriate stub category!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:12, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New stub proposal to split the Kenyan geography stubs! Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:48, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If the places are verifiable on a google map and can be expanded a little like Asembo then I would still support a Fritz type geo bot. Just they have to be accurate! Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:37, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Periyasamy Chandrasekaran. Another one bites the dust. Died after I started it. Nice to see it expanded.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:54, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ser Amantio di Nicolao, regarding my project on List of power stations in Iran, I have made a small mistake due to a non-consistent spelling format in sources. The Seimareh Dam and Seymareh Dam are one and the same, but mistakenly I have created two articles for them. Could you please kindly delete the Seymareh Dam article, so that it doesnt get misrepresented as two different dams. Also please take care to delete Seymareh Dam and not Seimareh Dam. Your anticipated effort on the matter is before hand appreciated. Thank You! --Irooniqermez (talk) 07:51, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wow you're optimistic. You think we'll reach 4 million articles by November? Are you loco? It took like 7 months to gain 250,000 articles. At the current rate it won't even be in 2011, it'll be like February or March 2012.... Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:04, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I just got edit #745 and it's my first article - Norman McFarland[edit]

A tag has been placed on Lina Marulanda requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. UtherSRG (talk) 21:07, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hate speech versus hate crime[edit]

Hi. You used HotCat to added the category:Hate_crime to Hate_speech_laws_in_the_United_Kingdom. Hate speech is not technically a hate crime. Hate crimes are ordinary crimes, e.g., robbery, which have increased sentences because some expression of hatred is made during the crime. Hate_speech_laws_in_the_United_Kingdom has a footnote which discusses the distinction. I have created a template to direct readers to the article:Hate_crime. Lithuanian artists[edit]

Hi. Can you help save a few of the articles in Wikipedia:WikiProject Visual arts/Unreferenced BLPs. Most of them could be saved with a sentence or two and a reliable ref. I know its not something I really feel like doing either but if we expand a few every few days spending a couple of minutes on them, together we could whittle down the list. If they are worth keeping that is.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:37, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Howz dat? DYK nominated! Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:45, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Extremely concerning isn't it just how poor our coverage actually is in many areas. I'm amazed how little we've covered of Dutch artists and instutions, I'm glad you added those articles at least. See Pulchri Studio. Truck loads of missing articles. In fact every articles I've started on the Netherlands so far has tons of red links... Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:26, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Of course it gets crazy when you consider that aside from the thousands of missing articles we could reasonably have an article about many of these missing artists sculptures and paintings too like this. Just imagine the size of wikipedia if we literally had a "full coverage". Do you think there is a possible 1 billion articles to write about? Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:53, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We'd be lucky to see 50 million at the current rate. If you think about it there must easily be 1 billion possible articles. We currently cover 0.33% of these? 1 billion is a 1000 million right? The thing is notability would still need to be asserted. The encyclopedia could of course have an article on an address plaque on a block of flats on the outkirts of Amsterdam or something. But I'd imagine there would be even 1 billion notable things to write about or which would be suitable for wikipedia. We certainly have the potential to develop to this extent but it would be take like 300 years or more to do it unless we ran a bot in the future.. If you think about it and go back in time there were obviously as many notable people then as a percentage in the world as there are now but are unknown. If we had the same coverage of each century like 14th century for instance as we have living people that alone would account for many million. But then there are the tens of millions of "hidden" topics that can be created for an encyclopedia. Like Sport in Alexandria, Virginia, Chess in Hohhot District Shoe making in the Vale of Glamorgan etc LOL. If you went into that level of detail then undoubtedly there are billions of possibilities, Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:30, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not a fan of "usefulness by edit count", it's the quality of contributions that matters most. Mjroots2 (talk) 08:01, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
