Could this user stop sending me the "practical joke" page. It's annoying and I will report abuse if it keeps up. And another thing, this was a problem that never invovled you anyway. So please refrain from jumping in a problem which has nothing to do with you! Discuss your issues with me if you would like, but other than that...please jump off.

Could this user explain what the hell this is: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&type=delete&page=Silent_Heroes ?

Thank you for removing valuable content.

Shanel really needs to take it easy....how about getting a real job or better yet a life? I know sitting at home all day defending poor old little wikipedia boosts your self-worth but please stop sending me your petty little messages. I will edit whatever I want to, regaurdless of vandalism. Why is what I revise/edit considered vandalism? I guess anyone on here who edits/revises anything is also vandalising. So please step off of my nutsack. Thanks

Shanel, my dear. I am not vandalizing anything. Wikipedia is not the locale for anti-Doolittle (or pro-Doolittle, or anti-anybody)campaigning. I have tried gentle edits to make the page less biased and more objective; I have tried adding material. In each case, my edits get changed back to a silly anti-Doolittle diatribe. Seems to me it makes the most sense to just clear it, and leave bare-boned facts. Write a reasonably balanced entry, no one will object. - Overacker.

I put this on your user page, but it should be on user:talk:

Can you please explain what you are doing with SNI ? http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&type=delete&page=Sustainable_National_Income

This is an important entry, did you read the talk page ?

Please FIRST restore the deletion, and THEN discuss with me what your opinion is.

There is no violation of copyrights or whatever.

This is very exasperating to me.

"Benon" started this, without consulting first.

PM. Why do you sent me a "practical joke" message, which isn't a message ? Ah, it must be a practical joke !

PM. Now I re-edited the SNI page. Please consult me about your plans for doing something now. Please 'don't bite newcomers'.

Co-sign on everything you said! How many times did this broad (dude?) edit MY OWN TALK PAGE in the defense that I was "vandalizing" it? You can vandalize your own user page? That's news to me!

Hi cutie, this kinda annoyed me. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:T-man%2C_the_Wise_Scarecrow&action=history just letting you know.

I agree, but you know why I did it. I'm sorry I did't think to ask you to do me the favor before, but can you modify DA's link to something that doens't remind me of him? "DA" wouldn't made it for me either, neither would The guy, or That guy or something like that. Didn't I tell you about this before? Like while doing those changes, I think. Anyhow, that doesnt justify what that user did, and it felt invasive, and obnoxious. Not that it is a big deal, but I'm just reporting. This is my new style of dealing with that kind of people.--T-man... ""worst vandal ever"" 02:23, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You got me wrong. I meant his name on a comment made by yourself. Remember that removing DA's comments from my regular talk page also makes it easy for arbytrators to analize the interaction he made with me on my t.p.--T-man... Messianic prophecy[edit]

Re your message on my talk page.

Read the Talk:Messianic_prophecies CAN WE AGREE section and look through the History of the Messianic prophecies article. We are in the process of a major reorganization. Also see Messianic prophecies (disambiguation).

The real problem is that there is a guy in a Baha'i-offshoot cult who loaded up the Messianic prophecies article with a bunch of seriously POV-violative stuff on the theory "As long as the source is verifiable it does not violate POV." When I removed it for POV he went ballistic. Other people have had the same problem with him. He sticks his cult stuff into all sorts of articles. To get him to stop in the Messianic prophecies article we agreed to create a bunch of messianic prophecies pages plus a (concept of) Messianic prophecy article, so he could put all his POV stuff in the page for his cult's views. (I didn't tell him that was my reason for proposing that solution. Presumably, he won't mess with the other ones.)

The Messianic prophecies page was written first. There was no article simply explaining messianic prophecy as a concept. I just wrote that article last week. Now that there is a "concept" article, a lot of the background material can be removed from other MP articles. Eventually "Messianic Prophecies" will redirect to the disambiguation page.

Currently I am designing a template for all the Messianic Prophecies (specific religion) articles. Also, I am involved in a dispute involving the Messianic Judaism article and a related article, so those plus some work-related things are taking up most of my time.

I swear the last thing I wanted to do was come within even an inch of wheel warring, but I brought this page back after you userfied it. I deleted it myself after it was recreated as an article but the author strongly objected even after I tried to convince him. He also brought up some new evidence, so I sent it to AfD. Hope you don't mind. CanadianCaesar The Republic Restored 11:05, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've put this article up for deletion review, after re-writing a stub focused much more on his non-Survivor notability as a TV host, which was then speedy deleted as a recreation of deleted content. Question[edit]

What is this email confirmation message about? Do I need to enter my email? And help would be great! Thanks! Madangry 03:05, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedies[edit]

As long as someone doesn't enter something that look like patent nonsense, an attack or an advertisement, if I feel I have to speedy their page, I try to give them a reason . . . usually its someone new, and they just don't know the criteria so I try to explain it to them . . . most of the times, however the articles are slavageable I think, so I try to slap it in a category and add a context or wikify tag to it . . . I find that gets the person asking more questions and the admins less likely to delete so fast. Most newbies do consider a speedy delete of their work a sort of insult, so it takes some time to let them know how to write an article so that it isn't a target for a fast delete. With work, most of these can become useful, informative articles.

I must confess that sometimes I use the wrong kind of delete tag . . . I speedy something when maybe I should prod it or AfD it (usually commercial/promotional oriented articles). I am working on getting that straight.

Thanks for the compliments though!

Hey, I was just going around on Wikipedia user talk pages to familiarize myself with some of my fellow users (I just started here), and I ran across your page. Man. I'm not sure who first put the little target on your back, but it seems like quite a few people have taken shots at you in one form or another. Huh. That's too bad. It seems like you've been a good sport about it all though, which is good. Anyway, nothing else to say really, that's about it. Good luck and all that, and I hope they cut you some slack in the future.

Archiving an ongoing discussion on a talk page[edit]

I noticed that you had recently blocked User:Khashayar_Karimi for archiving an ongoing discussion on Talk:Iranian_peoples, I'd like to bring to your attention that User:Aucaman is doing the exact same thing on Talk:Persian_people, archiving several ongoing discussions [2] only minutes after User:Ali doostzadeh had contributed to them [3], effectively denying a new wikipedian User:Ali doostzadeh the opportunity to present his argument and evidence regarding the dispute. Furthermore, User:Aucaman is also removing User:Ali doostzadeh's comments from his talk page without any valid reason. [4]

Can you please take a look into this issue, thanks. --ManiF 10:49, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New User Policy Training? (aka Newbie's Guide to Nasty Rules)[edit]

Hello. I have been thinking about this for some time now, mainly since I started RC patrolling some time ago . . . there are a lot of policies that Wikipedia enforces that most new people here have no clue about. I looked through the welcome messages that I put on new users' pages but they don't seem to address these problems. they tell you to "be bold" and tell you how to edit and make redirects and stuff . . . all necessary as they are simple . . . but none seem to tell you what you can't or aren't supposed to do.

I think it stinks when a new user comes here and goes to the trouble of writing an article only to have it deleted or under attack for rules that he/she never knew existed. Do you think there could be a way of creating a template that in a friendly way can welcome someone while also emphasizing what they are not allowed to do? In particular, I can think of several "no no's" that are repeatedly violated by people unaware that they did anything wrong. Among the things that I was thinking of adding was stuff like this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assume_good_faith
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winad
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:NOT
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:NFT
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notability
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:NOR
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_test
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Avoid_neologisms
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_personal_attacks
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Don't_be_a_dick
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Be_bold
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Ignore_all_rules

The material in these pages seems to me to be the most relevant as to what *not* to add and what newbies screw up on most (this semi-newbie not excepted) and the code of conduct expected out of people. I can't think of a way to force people to read this, but having a new article written with a good intention coming under fire at once will seem a lot more odious to me than showing rules in a welcome message.

Also, there is some content unsuitable for Wikipedia, but that *may* be suitable for other Wiki-sources, sich as Wiktionary, or Wikibooks, that the user may be able to make use of.

What do you think about this? Although there are some ill-intentioned people, there has really got to be a fun, non-abrasive way of getting this across. I would like to avoid these situations in the future if it can be avoided (something happened today to make me think of this but it's been brewing for some time now).

Copyrights on photos is something that still confuses me and I have been here six months.

Am I just trying too hard to be too nice or is this an idea worth pursuing?

(Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 22:05, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I like the idea and in fact, I would use such a template. - File:Ottawa flag.png nathanrdotcom (TCW) 22:26, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oooooh, *does Yosemite Sam dance* that joke on your user page gets me every time! Really though, I have been doing for the last month or so some RC patrolling. Some articles, due to my ignorance I have speedied or pordded, only to be saved by others. But usually I try to *save* articles rather than getting them deleted. Among newcomers though, it seems they just aren't TOLD THE RULES!!! They put forth effort and it is wasted, and no one tells them of alternatives or what needs to be done to fix a possibly salvageablbe article. Some people will always be vandals. But most genuinely *try* . . . I think the user message is too "friendly" . . . I understand the motivation, but I bet that most people who star editing here know they can edit anything, but they don't know what they can't do. This causes hard feelings all around.
I left this message on the Esperanza Project talk page hoping to get a bigger response. Have also ran it by Drini and some new users. What I kind of need to know now, is that now that I have a possible welcome message in embryo, how do I publicize it to get comments on it from people who have had the same problems? Input welcome and desperately needed! (Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 22:37, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi....[edit]

I noticed you posted the following message on the dinosaur project page:

Hi, I'm a member of the Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing using these criteria, and we are looking for A-class, B-class, and Good articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Can you recommend any suitable articles? Please post your suggestions here. Cheers, Shanel 20:19, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

We can gladly help, but we (actually I) have a couple of questions :

1) What is it for? Could you be more precise on what you mean by, "for future publication on CD or paper"?

2) Do you want us to suggest solely dinosaur articles or would you like us to recommend any type of article? Excellent articles are hard to find on Dinosaurs on Wikipedia because of the lack of experts, so I doubt we'll be able to help greatly...

3) If I send you a bunch of articles after you've replied to this, will you rate them, as I'm not familiar with the rating system?

Thanks, Spawn Man 23:01, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List:
Obviously Dinosaur. Tyrannosaurus. The rest I doubt will make it... Archaeopteryx. Triceratops. Velociraptor. Spinosaurus. Cryolophosaurus. Brontosaurus. Brachiosaurus.
That's it folks... Hope it helps a bit at least to know that we have absolutely nothing to offer yet.... Spawn Man 23:52, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, and WP:1.0[edit]

Shanel,

Wow, that's a great trick for contacting the groups, can you explain it for Gflores and myself? Thanks a lot for finishing these contacts off, we only have "Places" to go (no pun intended). However I think we also need to contact regional notice boards, then I would say that Phase 1 is complete.

Two other things:

  • Gflores has pointed out, and I've been thinking the same, we should contact the WikiProjects about getting them to supply a list of their most important articles. This will help to tie together WP:1.0 (WVWP) with WP:1.0 (Core topics), something essential before we go to press. For example, we know that these US court cases have quality articles, but are these the most important? However recently someone from the project kindly provided me with his/her 20 most important cases, and this is probably what we need as well. I was thinking of it in terms of the "trees" that I have been developing, such as the Core Topics Tree, we need to put the most important topics in the higher levels. We don't want to publish a WP1.0 with Starfleet_ranks_and_insignia included but nothing on the elephant, for example.
  • I would like to move WP1.0 and the WP1.0 page to the "next stage", and get some kind of consensus on how we want things to proceed next. We need to get a roadmap to publication, and set up any new subprojects to help us get there. We need to decide the size and scope, please feel free to leave comments on that here. You can get a sense of Gflores's views there and also in his recent comments, I think I agree with everything.

Can you let me know what you think? Thanks a lot, Walkerma 21:17, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering if you could reconsider your decision here. If you look at the user's edits, it looks like Image:Mahmoud Ahmadinejad front view.jpg.jpg has two jpg extentions. I have some complaints about this user and I don't know where to post them. I posted this on WP:AN as well.

  1. He attacks people constantly on his talk page and reverts any comment I make - he is in violation of 3RR.
  2. He vandalized my talk page after I warned him on his talk page, as you can see here and I suspect he's using a sockpuppet on this one
  3. He's repeatedly abusive to people in Talk:IP address, specifically in this section. He's been warned there too several times.
  4. He's been warned over and over for his actions (harassing people's talk pages, harassing people via email) and nobody's blocked him yet. In my opinion, he needs a block and a quite long one (a week at least).
  5. Other actions include rudeness to User:Hbackman on her talk page at [6] [7]
  6. He changed his IP to evade his block and vandalized my talk page here and here. I know it's him because:
    • he admitted it in the edit summary
    • he's called me "Nate" in his User_talk:0waldo talk page (check history) as a weak insult. I do not respond to such names, and that's a poor way of getting my attention.
  7. He is also harassing me outside Wikipedia (this is in addition to sending me a dozen harassing e-mails on Saturday):

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1[edit]

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Admin issue regarding a userbox of mine.[edit]

Issue: devilhead userbox, using a former fair use image but changed to GDFL as per this conversation on Jabber.

Opinion: I honestly don't know why some admins can't use good old fashioned communication (on talk pages) instead of blindly making changes.

More info:

This is starting to get old. I'd appreciate a little communication on their part (this is why I don't ever want to be an admin) before they blindly make changes.

The long and short of it is: The image was a company logo. As member of the board of directors, I had permission to use it. I also have permission to license it under GFDL and I've just done so and logged the conversation.

What is the issue here? Please help. — natha(?)nrdotcom (TCW) 08:37, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I must have been hit by a cacheing issue. I'm sure I saw a fair use tag when I viewed that image.Geni 08:44, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There was a fair use tag. I changed it as per the above (EDIT: perhaps a couple of hours ago). You maybe could've discussed this with me first instead of making changes and I would've answered. — natha(?)nrdotcom (TCW) 08:51, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, here's what I'm going to do. I can see this discussion possibly break down for some reason, so I'm going to assume good faith on your part; (I changed the license in the image information at 07:05 UTC, after you even reverted the userbox at 06:04 UTC, though I did have sufficient information in the image summary to prove I had permission to use that image - I am board member of the company it was the logo of and I had documented permission to use the image..then lots of wikifights so I had permission to change it to GDFL) — natha(?)nrdotcom (TCW) 08:58, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well...[edit]

It wasn't suposed to be addressed to anybody, I just liked the banner and wanted to do something with it. Later, as I realised the magnitude of my stalker's obsesion with everything I do, I wrote some ambiguos phrases to see if he actually is actually that bad. And although it was very unlikely, he not only find the phrases, but he also admitted to me that he did. I remember that it was this kind of way he incriminated himself on several occations that kept me from believing he really has the age and profesion he claimed tho have. However I'm using the burn in hell thing to learn how to set banners. You know, colors, fonts, image alignmet, etc. The hidden thing should go, though. It stopped being useful after ther the arbitration. Regards. --201.152.157.118 04:22, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2[edit]

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

Hi, Im Merlinus (Marc): By accident you put a block on my AOL IP adresss... if you check I am not the one you were trying to block. I wish you Good luck stopping Vandals... but this time you got a general AOL batch number and blocked innocent people... I quote: Many times, when a user that edits from an ISP with a dynamic IP pool, such as AOL, is blocked, all the IP addresses recently used by that user will be autoblocked. In most cases, it is not the blocked user, but an innocent, uninvolved user who happens to share the same ISP, who is autoblocked.
