[edit] Wiki strategy

If you want to make sweeping changes the easy way...without confrontation...stress free ...then create a new article. This strategy has been done before and it does work. Cheers! Wassupwestcoast (talk) 19:52, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Of course, you know this! I just read your user page. Cheers! Wassupwestcoast (talk) 19:54, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
I began an extremely rough attempt at this at User:Silence/Introduction to evolution. However, clearly much more work is needed, and sadly my time is limited. My intention was to simply de-list Introduction to evolution for its current faults, then begin the radical revisions, and re-FA it once its new form gets approved. This would allow more experimentation and creative brainstorming, without leaving faults on an FA article which we have not decided on the best solution for yet. However, if you really think I should simply begin the massive changes now, I will attempt it... be careful what you wish for. :] -Silence (talk) 21:45, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Moral support for 'Introduction to Evolution'

Hi,

I had reverted your deletion/edit in good faith but seeing your body of work and the arguments against the course of action I proposed, I reverted the undo myself.

I just wanted to give you my vote of support for the large and difficult task. All the best to you in this endeavour of yours.

[edit] Unable to edit

Can you tell me why I cant edit now after 4 days and 10 edits? I cant edit semi-protect pages, are you or an admin can help out? Is it cause of filter log? Vazgen4 (talk) 20:16, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

I made a request to allow editing in semi-protect pages, somebody told me of Tor Network? I dont use that, I use regular connections. So what is this filter log, is this why? Vazgen4 (talk) 20:43, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Akha image (technical)

Hey Silence, any idea why such a small image is 368 KB? It is a burden on those with slower connections. Rivertorch (talk) 18:49, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

When I cropped the image from File:Akha couple.JPG a while back, I saved it as a .png just as a caution against losing any quality. That explains the large size. Feel free to resave as .jpg, that will greatly reduce the file size. -Silence (talk) 20:57, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Mystery move

You moved K2 (mountain) to K2. Why is that? --The High Fin Sperm Whale (talk) 00:29, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Pretty simple: There was no page for K2. K2 redirected to K2 (mountain). Which is the same as simply calling the page 'K2', but longer and more circuitous. Either K2 (mountain) needed to be moved to K2, or K2 (disambiguation) needed to be moved to K2; I opted with the former choice, both because it was closer to the existing situation and because K2 (the mountain) seemed to be the most important entry on the dab page anyway (second-tallest mountain on Earth > obscure Japanese noise music bands and Italian TV channels). Furthermore, there are multiple mountains called "K2" (see Mount K2), so the name "K2 (mountain)", if it warranted a page, would actually have to be a dab page itself! (Fortunately, we can cover this just fine in the existing dab page.) -Silence (talk) 00:42, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
But wouldn't it be better to move K2 to K2 (mountain) and move K2 (disambiguation) to K2, and then have a notice on K2 (mountain) that said,
I think K2 (mountain) is more specific and less confusing than K2. --The High Fin Sperm Whale (talk) 03:35, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
I am moving K2 back to K2 (mountain) (unless you have a good reason not to. If you do, write me a message.). --The High Fin Sperm Whale (talk) 18:50, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Now we have an even bigger problem! When I moved the page, I accidentally created separate pages for K2 and K2 (mountain). Both are identical, besides the name. --The High Fin Sperm Whale (talk) 19:07, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Mediation Request Over Lead Image on Human

A request for formal mediation of the dispute concerning Human has been filed with the Mediation Committee (MedCom). You have been named as a party in this request. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Human and then indicate in the "Party agreement" section whether you would agree to participate in the mediation or not.

Mediation is a process where a group of editors in disagreement over matters of article content are guided through discussing the issues of the dispute (and towards developing a resolution) by an uninvolved editor experienced with handling disputes (the mediator). The process is voluntary and is designed for parties who disagree in good faith and who share a common desire to resolve their differences. Further information on the MedCom is at Wikipedia:Mediation Committee; the policy the Committee will work by whilst handling your dispute is at Wikipedia:Mediation Committee/Policy; further information on Wikipedia's policy on resolving disagreements is at Wikipedia:Resolving disputes.

If you would be willing to participate in the mediation of this dispute but wish for its scope to be adjusted then you may propose on the case talk page amendments or additions to the list of issues to be mediated. Any queries or concerns that you have may be directed to an active mediator of the Committee or by e-mailing the MedCom's private mailing list (click here for details).

Please indicate on the case page your agreement to participate in the mediation within seven days of the request's submission.

Thank you, KgKris (talk)

Silence, this is getting old in a hurry. Either the page needs semi-protection or the IP range involved needs to be blocked. I requested the former an hour ago with no response yet. [edit] AfD nomination of Introduction to evolution

Ambox warning pn.svg

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Introduction to evolution. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Introduction to evolution (3rd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

[edit] SAIU Survey

Hey Silence, Can you take down the SAIU survey at User:Silence/Survey? Its purpose has been served and is long over, and I really don't like such personal information being publicly exposed on the internet for no purpose. Sincerely, Jared —Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.159.131.174 (talk) 19:12, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Lord Chaitanya knows everything that happens in all three phases (past, present, and future, of time. He knows that in the future some demoni people will serve Lord Advaita.

Text 123

They will refer to Lord Advaita by the name "Shri Krishna". In this way they will reject the words of the true Vaishnavas.

Text 124

These sinners will thus disobey the devotees who affirm that Advaita is "the greatest Vaishnava".

Text 125

Many persons will consider themselves the followers of Lord Advaita, but they will not have the power to see how in the future they will be punished.

Text 126

Lord Chaitanya, the crest jewel of they who know everything, knew all this. Therefore He did something to try to stop this from happening.

Text 127

By punishing His mother, Lord Chaitanya showed the result that comes from offending Lord Advaita or any other Vaishnava.

Text 128

No one can protect a person who has offended a Vaishnava.

Text 129

Therefore one should avoid persons who offend Vaishnava.

Text 130

One should avoid an offender, even if the offender is otherwise very qualified. A little association with an offender will make one fall down.

Text 131

Who has the power to understand why the Lord gives punishment? By punishing His mother, He taught everyone.

Text 132

Anyone who blasphemes they who use the word `Vaishnava" to address Lord Advaita will be punished. He will perish.

Text 133

Lord Chaitanya is theSupreme Personality of Godhead, the master of all. To be called His follower is very great praise.

Text 134

Without any intention to deceive, Lord Chaitanya openly said that Lord Nityananda is the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself.

Text 135

By Lord Nityananda's mercy I know Lord Chaitanya. By Lord Nityananda's mercy I know the Vaishnavas.

Text 136

By Lord Nityananda's mercy offenses are destroyed. By Lord Nityananda's mercy one attains devotion to Lord Vishnu.

Text 137

Blasphemy directed to Lord Nityananda's servants never enters my mouth. Day and night I happily sing Lord Chaitanya's glories

Text 138

I carefully serve Lord Nityananda's devotees. Lord Chaitanya is the life and wealth of Lord Nityananda's servants.

Text 139

A person who has only a little good fortune will not become Lord Nityananda's servant, for Lord Nityananda's servant is able to see Lord Chaitanya.

Text 140

Anyone who hears this story of Lord Visvarupa becomes a servant of the limitless Supreme Personality of Godhead. He feels that Lord Nityananda is his very life.

Text 141

Lord Nityananda and Lord Visvarupa do not have different bodies. This Mother Saci knew. Some other great souls also knew.

Text 142

Glory to Lord Nityananda, who takes shelter of Lord Chaitanya! Glory, glory to Lord Nityananda, who is thousand-faced Ananta Sesha!

Text 143

O Lord Nityananda, O king of Gauda-desa, glory to You! Who can attain Lord Chaitanya without first attaining Your mercy?

Text 144

Anyone who loses Lord Nityananda will not be happy in this life.

Text 145

Will I some day see Lord Chaitanya, Lord Nityananda, and their associates all thogether in one place?

Text 146

Lord Chaitanya is my master. With great faith and hope I meditate on Him within my heart.

Text 147

I bow down before Lord Advaita's feet. I pray that he will always be dear to me and that He will always stay in my thoughts.

Text 148

The two moons Shri Krishna Chaitanya and Shri Nityananda are my life and soul. I, Vrindavana dasa, sing the glories of Their feet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.132.82.156 (talk) 11:39, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Food for thought humans

Hey ∅,

From the dearth of recent posts here, I assume you're busy. If you have a few minutes (or hours!) to spare, please take a look at this seemingly interminable discussion. Maybe you'll want to offer an opinion, maybe not, but I suspect you might have some insight into one or more policy-based strategies for sorting things out.

Cheers,
Rivertorch (talk) 06:08, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

P.S. My fears about the Akha picture apparently were unfounded. Aside from the occasional complaint (usually vaguely racist in nature), there has been no real contentiousness thus far. I live and learn.

In fairness, we were all mistaken about the reaction to the change. I was as pessimistic as anyone else about whether it would be an uphill battle to preserve the image. But sometimes taking a risk has surprising results. :) I'm guessing the lack of controversy is mainly due to the apathy of visitors and the debate-exhaustion of regulars. One could also interpret it as confirming my claim that Wikipedia users expect 'example' photographs (rather than all-encompassing symbols) on species pages. And third, although there are some minor problems I myself have always had with the image (no visible feet/shoes or human settlements), the image is pretty. :) Vibrant greens go a surprisingly long way. :p -Silence (talk) 23:22, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Completely new abortion proposal and mediation

In light of the seemingly endless disputes over their respective titles, a neutral mediator has crafted a proposal to rename the two major abortion articles (pro-life/anti-abortion movement, and pro-choice/abortion rights movement) to completely new names. The idea, which is located here, is currently open for opinions. As you have been a contributor in the past to at least one of the articles, your thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

The hope is that, if a consensus can be reached on the article titles, the energy that has been spent debating the titles of the articles here and here can be better spent giving both articles some much needed improvement to their content. Please take some time to read the proposal and weigh in on the matter. Even if your opinion is simple indifference, that opinion would be valuable to have posted. [edit] Abortion article titles

Well, sorry to tell you this, but you've missed the first party, which was really a bust, but if you're really interested, there's another one going on down the hall right now, and it's big enough that it actually is in two rooms. You're welcome to stop by, if you'd like. HuskyHuskie (talk) 04:11, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure how interested I am. 'Pro-life' is a hypothetical daughter article for 'Opposition to the legality of abortion,' since the two domains do not precisely overlap; but since nearly all content relevant to 'pro-life' can be covered in the parent, there's no need for the actual daughter. All that's need is to eliminate the factually inaccurate, misleading, and biased term 'Legalization,' which is clearly being mis-applied by someone who's over-analogizing its usage in contexts where something illegal is under debate. -Silence (talk) 07:35, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Wikipedians interested in music

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Category:Wikipedians interested in music, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. JamesAlan1986 20:47, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
