Responding to RFCs

Remember that RFCs are part of Dispute Resolution and at times may take place in a heated environment. Please take a look at the relevant RFC page before responding and be sure that you are willing and able to enter that environment and contribute to making the discussion a calm and productive one focussed on the content issue at hand. See also Wikipedia:Requests for comment#Suggestions for responding.

Greetings! You have been randomly selected to receive an invitation to participate in the request for comment on Talk:Human. Should you wish to respond to the invitation, your contribution to this discussion will be very much appreciated! However, please note that your input will carry no greater weight than anyone else's: remember that an RFC aims to reach a reasoned consensus position, and is not a vote. In support of that, your contribution should focus on thoughtful evaluation of the issues and available evidence, and provide further relevant evidence if possible.

[edit] Don't panic

I was gratified by the way fellow Milwaukeean Protonk and others picked up on that cue. My wife, of course, brought up Alpha Centauri before I even got to the straight line; but then, we were married at an SF convention. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:23, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Adams was a genius - that whole council/Vogon sequence was profound as well as hilarious.
Wow, married at an SF convention. If that's not love and compatibility, I don't know what is!
Until I got to "Alpha Centauri" and "SF convention" I had no idea what you were talking about, and thought it was one of those odd comments like you see on blogs these days... but then I remembered the thread and it all made sense. :-) --Chriswaterguy talk 02:24, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
The real mixed marriage is that between a fan and a mundane. I met Cicatrice at a con (she says I called her fanzine a "crudzine", but I don't remember it, just her), married her at a con a few years later (1981), with the ceremony performed by a member of Madison fandom who was an ex-roommate of Harlan Ellison's, and also happened to be my bishop. Next January, best we can figure, will be our 16-year-old daughter's 72nd con. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:46, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
That's pretty hardcore. With the exception of a few books in primary school, then Douglas Adams in high school, I only discovered SF reading more seriously as an adult,, thanks to a friend with a respectable set of bookshelves of SF and haven't actually been to a con. (Have been in SE Asia a lot in recent years - never heard of an SF con there). Must go when I get a chance.
I love "Lord of Light" and "The Mote in God's Eye" in particular, and the 2005-ish Battlestar Galactica. Wonderful stuff. --Chriswaterguy talk 12:27, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
I don't know of any SF conventions in SE Asia. There are regular cons in Australia, an annual National Convention in NZ, and of course some in Japan; but that's about it. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:50, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Well, I'm safely back in Yogyakarta and hopping on the report for Siska. Not sure if you knew my user name, so here it is, eh? Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:15, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
