Question[edit]

Hello, I have recently added to the page on the Greek Junta an Economic section, called unrivaled growth as I believe within this period, growth was huge. Immediately I met with socialists in droves who did not want any positive section on the Junta page. My title was altered to Economic Growth. I also made the claim that growth within this period was not seen before or after in the twentieth century in Greece. The Socialists did not belive me and asked for proof claiming there were times in the 20's and late 90's where growth was higher 'maybe' ??? I feel I therefore have to prove my point. If you can offer any assistance it would be much appreciated, V http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_military_junta_of_1967-1974 Reaper7 20:22, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Askamax[edit]

Hi, I have seen your interest in Greek motor manufacturing and was hoping you could provide me with some information. I was wandering if you had any data on a company called Askamax (ΑΣΚΑΜΑΞ) which assembled buses in Cyprus mostly in the 1980s. Apart from KMC (to which you have kindly contributed) it is the only M/V manufacturer I know of in Cyprus, and as such I think it deserves an article! Xairetismous Georgeg 22:47, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello. I have also heard of the company, but I do not have any sources - probably I did not investigate it enough because it involved "only" assembly and/or body manufacture. By the way, I have added Cyprus in the List of automobile manufacturers article with KMC - I was actually planning to add a few more words in the relevant article. Orphaned fair use image (Image:BIAMAX F580 bus.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BIAMAX F580 bus.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:12, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Purchase of your Book[edit]

Mr Skartsis,

My name is Paris Velissaris. I am a Greek Australian currently studying Mechatronics Engineering/Computer Science at the University of Melbourne. I have been greatly inspired by your Wikipedia writings, and would like to purchase your co-written book: L.S. Skartsis and G.A. Avramidis, 'Made in Greece', Typorama, Patras, Greece (2003).

What would be the best way of doing this?

Many thanks, Paris Velissaris

Dear Mr. Velissaris, Thank you for your interest. The best way is to directly contact Mr. Spyros Agorianitis at: info@typorama.gr

I will also forward to him your message.

The book (my second attempt to document a part of Greek Industrial History after the "Encyclopedia of Greek Vehicles and Aircraft" of 1994) has currently been "adopted" by the Science Park of the University of Patras. Please feel free to contact me for any further information.

Sincerely,

Labros Skartsis Skartsis 20:19, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Mr Skartsis,

Many thanks for such a prompt and complete reply. I've emailed Mr Spyros Agorianitis. Thank you for all your effors, i'll let you know what develops.

Shan Star[edit]

A tag has been placed on Shan Star, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. MarkBolton 15:28, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on MADEI, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Rackabello 15:32, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

These are rather unexpected notices. Manufacturers appearing in the List of cars article should be linked to relevant articles (incidentally, List of cars is becoming the best reference for world auto manufacturers that has ever existed). The addition of short articles about a couple of manufacturers from Myanmar was considered "advertisement" or something like that. As I write in the talk pages, they can be deleted, no harm done - but then the concept of the world auto manufacturers encyclopedia topic is disputed. Skartsis 19:48, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Agricola_truck.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Agricola_truck.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:11, 8 July 2007 (UTC). Replaceable fair use Image:Nearchos.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Nearchos.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 22:31, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Atlas_3w_truck.JPG[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Atlas_3w_truck.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Images[edit]

A general comment. As I have stated elsewhere, most of those images have been provided to me by the manufacturers with the agreement that they can be freely reproduced. Since I cannot "prove" it, I hesitate to make such a statement, trying to go "by the book" and thus each time I try to use the most appropriate tag. Skartsis 10:06, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

ENFIELD 8000 - Constantine Adraktas[edit]

Dear Mr. Skartsis,
The RANGE FIGURE appearing in the Commercial brochure you have posted in the ENFIELD 8000 article is wrong
The Bikini, lacking the Aerodynamic characteristics of the ENFIELD 8000 ELECTRIC CITY CAR ( the E8000ECC )
had a RANGE and MAXIMUM SPEED like the ones appearing in the main text of the ENFIELD 8000 article
The E8000ECC, however, which had a lower Aerodynamic coefficient than that of PORSCHE
had a RANGE of 50 to 90 Miles ( 80 to 145 Kilometres )
and a MAXIMUM SPEED of 60 to 80 Miles per Hour ( 97 to 129 Kilometres per Hour )
( the variation of the figures above was dependant on factors like the number of passengers, 'the ground gradients
the number of stops and starts, the condition of the batteries etc )
Sincerely yours
Constantine Adraktas
The 1969 to 1975 Chairman, Managing and Technical Director of Enfield Automotive
The negotiator and signatory of the Electricity Council - Enfield Automotive contract

Constantine Adraktas 07:40, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Dear Mr. Skartsis.

If you search in Wikipedia for "User : Constantine Adraktas" or you click over my signature below, you will find the true story about Enfield Automotive and the Enfield 8000.

The true story, indeed, as I was the person who developed the Enfield 8000. managed Enfield Automotive in every respect for years and negotiated and signed the contract with the Electricity Council.

Yes, I know that a number of others have presented themselves as the "fathers" of the Enfield 8000!

Sincerely Yours

Constantine Adraktas Constantine Adraktas 22:20, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Dear Mr. Skartsis,

Thank you for your note in my Talk page and I repeat here my follow up comments.

On the issue of obtaining a permit to have the Enfield 8000 and its derivatives sold in Greece'

I was personally involved in the matter and I can tell you that there was no problem for the then Government of the Military Junta to have such permit be issued.

On the Range of the Enfield 8000 and its derivatives

Have you noticed that there is a 215 per cent discrepancy between the Range in the text of the ENFIELD 8000 article and the Range quoted in the Commercial brochure attached to the said article?

Actually, both such Range figures are not correct. But if one of them, say the Range for the Bikini, as appearing in the said brochure, were correct as being 120 - 140 Kilometres (75 - 87 Miles), were correct, THEN the Range of the Enfield Electric City Car, the E8000ECC, would have been much higher because of it having a lower Aerodynamic coefficient than the Bikini (even lower than the Porsche!). The higher the Aerodynamic coefficient the faster the batteries get depleted and the more battery energy goes into heating the Atmosphere instead of increasing the Range. Georgios Michael[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Georgios Michael, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. THE ELECTRICITY COUNCIL CONTRACT - ENFIELD 8000 - A VALID SOURCE FOR THE WIKIPEDIA STANDARDS?[edit]

Dear Mr. Adraktas (I was also addressed with the same question) the only thing I can say is that such information would enrich the article. Please understand , though, that I do not want to be involved in any more relevant arguments. Skartsis 07:18, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Dear Mr. Skartsis,

I fully understand anybody who does not wish to be involved in arguments that do not concern him, directly or indirectly. You have made a valiant contribution, however, with your relevant books (which I would like to purchase, if you can guideme to the appropriate source) and I would have thought that your having a copy of the first ever and worldwide contract of Electric cars (won in competition against Ford, British Leyland etc) would only enhance your objective basis of information. If you can see the matter along these lines and send me your email address, I would be very happy to email you the said contract. Constantine Adraktas 16:24, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Image source problem with Image:BIAMAX logo.jpg[edit]

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:BIAMAX logo.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Uzinele Braşov[edit]

Circle-style-warning.svg

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Uzinele Braşov, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. B. Wolterding 17:34, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi again, thought you might be interested in this one. I was zapping through the tv a few days ago and came accross this car [1] (also see p 7 here [2]) a car apparently designed by a guy called John Forakis. I bet you know him! Georgeg 18:02, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

--Tony esopi patra (talk) 21:14, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Kefefs.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Kefefs.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 15:54, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Biamax trolley.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Biamax trolley.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 01:53, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Meetup in Athens[edit]

Hello! I'd like to turn the first meetup of Wikipedians in Athens, Greece to your attention. We're a group of students involving three German Wikipedia admins and have set up this meetup for March 31st, 6:00 PM (18:00). The location is (to be exspected) the Ama Lachi. We'd very much like seeing as many Wikipedians from Greece as possible. We'd also like some help with the setup of the meeting; we need a contactsman in Athens. Yours, Sarazyn丁人LKDE 13:37, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of List of cars[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

An editor has nominated List of cars, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of cars and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 18:00, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Hellenic_shipyards.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important blue.svg

Thanks for uploading Image:Hellenic_shipyards.jpg.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Agricola truck.jpg}[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Agricola truck.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Speedy deletion of Korres Engineering[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on Korres Engineering requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. AfD nomination of Korres Engineering[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

I have nominated Korres Engineering, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Korres Engineering. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Bongomatic 00:51, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Piraeus Railway Works[edit]

Recently you created this article about Piraeus Railway Works. However there were three distinct central railway stock factories in Piraeus, at some distance from each other and belonging to different companies/networks: EIS (Kononos Street), SPAP (Lefka, Moutsopoulou side, mostly Engine sheds but also built new metric gauge stock) and SEK (Lefka, Retsina & Thivon, has done major rebuilding of ALCo & MLW diesel locomotives). I'm trying to organize WP information about the greek railways (see my page: User:Sv1xv and this article obviously does not fit well in the scheme. I propose to split it and move the information in new sections in the respective articles for ISAP and Piraeus, Athens and Peloponnese Railways. Sv1xv (talk) 15:30, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't have a problem, especially if you have enough information about their construction activity that can lead to clearly distinct sections about the factories.Skartsis (talk) 14:10, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
To continue on the above, though, my intent was to have "reference" articles specifically about the manufacturers (to which there will be links). One option is to rename and expand it, or even split it into more articles (I had tried to avoid it, writing a "collective" summary) but I would prefer that independent articles exist (as far as manufacturers are concerned). Skartsis (talk) 15:26, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Either option is better than the current article, which is misleading and confusing to the casual reader. Wether it is preferable to write 3 articles (for each factory) or a section within each railway company article, depends on the significance of the factories and the available quantity of encyclopedic information, plus supporting copyright-free illustrations.

I don't think any of these factories is really notable.

  1. The one of EHS did only minor conversions & repairs, plus woodwork for new railcars and tram cars. I have already added a small entry in ISAP.
  2. SEK/OSE is the best organized one but its only major project is the rebuiling of old ALCo/MLW diesel locomotives under american supervision (already completed classes A-501 & A-451, now working on A-201 and A-9101).
  3. The most progressive factory, that of SPAP, was just a well organized depot for locomotives. It produced exactly one diesel locomotive of its own design. This was DBς320.01 or Gagarin, a personal project of Byron Papageorgiou, who mounted a spare diesel engine on the frame of a steam locomotive.

Their activities were rather trivial in the old days, when every railway had its own heavy maintenance facility. They appear important only if considered in the Greek business environment, but they are not notable for an international encyclopedia. Perhaps the SEK/OSE factory (K.E.P.) is the one that deserves a separate article, given its more autonomous status within OSE. Sv1xv (talk) 19:29, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

I have to admit that your professional approach and knowledge deserves all the respect. Please proceed as you judge ! Regards, Labros Skartsis (talk) 08:55, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps the next step is to pay a visit to OSE works (Retsina & Thivon) and collect some facts about their history, avoiding any original research. Unfortunately the SPAP works were closed down in 2005. Sv1xv (talk) 10:29, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:EBO Kefefs.jpg)[edit]

Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading File:EBO Kefefs.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

I have nominated Scavas, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scavas. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scavas[edit]

I have read your excellent comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scavas. It appears to me that you are arguing that the article be kept (i.e. not deleted). If that is your intention, please place the text *Keep (in bold) at the beggining of your comment so your argument in support of the article will not be overlooked. Thank you. Absolutely amazing!! I am the author of the book from which I transfered material to Wikipedia, and then Michalis Lahanas took MY material, with MY permission FROM Wikipedia (it is actually stated in http://www.mlahanas.de/Greece/Info/Scavas.html if you look a bit more carefully at the bottom of the article). Anybody can also easily contact Mr. Lahanas (there is a contact option in his site) and ask him... As I have said, I truly appreciate all contributions and efforts to ensure accuracy etc., but let us all be a bit more careful so that we don't discourage those who want to enrich Wikipedia. One could see, if anything, that I am the author of a book cited...Skartsis (talk) 12:13, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

greek field guns[edit]

Hello,

Am new to this site and trying to contact Mr Labros Skartsis with a question on Greek field guns, possibly converted by Pyrkal in the 1930s. Mr Skartsis, could I contact you by email? No problem (skartsis@yahoo.com). As I am not a true expert on guns, I might forward any question to Mr. Theodoros Dimopoulos who is one of the leading experts in Greece (he has published a lot of books and articles and has helped me a lot with my research). Speedy deletion nomination of File:Scavas 2.jpg[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on File:Scavas 2.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Economy of Greece[edit]

Hello Skartsis. I have a problem with the Economy of Greece article.

The article does not include at all anything about Greece's huge financial problems, economic instability and etc. All other Economy articles, such as Economy of Italy say about their country's problems, but Greece doesn't. And let's face it, I know a lot about country's economies and Greece has a lot of corruption, low economic freedom, a recent poor economic performance and it is going through one of its worst recessions. Now, I'm not saying to erase the article and re-write it totally with a negative POV, however, some facts need to be added and there is nothing one can prove against it. This is fact, not opinion, and there are a lot of sources to prove this. All I want is to balance the article appropriately

So, if you see some recent edits to the article, it could be me. Tell me what you think about this.

Kind regards and reply--Theologiae (talk) 14:55, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

The problem with some articles about economic history is that they either reflect very recent conditions (experienced at the time somebody wrote the article) or do not put things in the right context - typical of garbage written in newspaper or heard in TV shows. For example writing about "huge economic problems and corruption" in Italy and Bangladesh are both technically accurate, but, especially in an encyclopedic article, one should put the information about the country in the right context. Before the "Economy of Greece" article was "attacked" it had somewhat of a balance, as in the last paragraphs it analyzed recent negative evolutions. I would suggest that a couple of paragraphs were added at the end, that reflect the negative factors (low competitiveness, corruption etc) and the negative current situation, but it should not fall in the usual traps mentioned above. Regards, Skartsis (talk) 15:46, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Ok, so...[edit]

So, Skartsis, to sum things up, you are saying to add the problems with the Greek economy in the bottom text. If so, tell me.

Reply

Oh, and also, what do you mean by the article being 'attacked'?

Kind Regards--Theologiae (talk) 17:12, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

First, as I had explained, the article was recently "attacked" (I understand, by somebody else) when most of it was deleted (almost vandalized). If you look at earlier versions, you will see a much larger article with reference to the current economic problems etc. (I had also added a paragraph about the miserable 80s). What you saw that looked like advertisement, was the result of this semi-vandalism. I am OK with these paragraphs added at the end, they both balance the message and are accurate. Probably a lot of further expansion can be made, but in an organized way. Regards,Skartsis (talk) 09:47, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of ELCO Vagionis[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on ELCO Vagionis requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Map in Greece article[edit]

Hello there,

It would be great if you could change the map on the infobox showing the location of Greece, with the map that is located in the Greek Wikipedia article of Greece. This map is much better than the one in the English Wikipedia as it shows all Islands with detail. I would do it myself, but I ask it from you because I cannot yet edit the article. Thanks! Aerospace1981 (talk) 17:59, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, but I have not been involved in the creation of the infobox (and map) and perhaps it would not be appropriate to interfere. I think you can readily edit once you "establish" your user page. Skartsis (talk) 15:50, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

YMC (motorcycles and buggies) notability?[edit]

YMC (motorcycles and buggies) appears to fail WP:COMPANY. It also seems to fail the criteria at the top of the page in List of motorcycle manufacturers‎ because it merely brands products made by others. Can you cite any sources for this page that would indicate that it meets the notability criteria for companies? --Dbratland (talk) 17:04, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

OK, I see your point. Regarding the notablity, I believe any company of such size (Yiannoulas Group) can be included, especially since YMC is one of the most successful brands in Greece. It can indeed marginally be called "manufacturer", but since it is developing and assembling products (while manufacturing certain parts), it could be listed - as is the case with other similar companies. It is not simply importing re-branded products. I have also added a couple of external links (articles that talk about the company).Skartsis (talk) 13:02, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Hallo, I see you are interested in Hellenic aviation. I've created some relevant articles (Moraitinis, Moutousis, Argyropoulos) and plan to create the Hellenic Naval Aviation Service. If you are still interested in the topic, just feel free to check. Good job with KEA.Alexikoua (talk) 11:31, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Citroen FAF.jpg[edit]

Copyright-problem.svg

Thank you for uploading File:Citroen FAF.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 19:06, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Farma jeep.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Farma jeep.jpg. File source problem with File:EPK bomb.jpg[edit]

Copyright-problem.svg

Thank you for uploading File:EPK bomb.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:59, 5 October 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 18:59, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Replicar Hellas[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Replicar Hellas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Catfish Jim & the soapdish 14:28, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

License tagging for File:AK Hellas T200 ad.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:AK Hellas T200 ad.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 20:06, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:ELBO Kentaurus.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:ELBO Kentaurus.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Speedy deletion nomination of Halyvourgiki S.A.[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Halyvourgiki S.A., requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Non-free rationale for File:Namco Pony Super.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Namco Pony Super.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:08, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

There is permission to reproduce the image. I am an author of relevant books and companies have provided material for publication. This can be verified if one wants to contact these companies. One thing I have to say, is that a lot of precious material has been deleted from Wikipedia through this process, in many cases where, in my opinion, enough rationale has been provided. Skartsis (talk) 14:17, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Nobody reads your replies here except yourself. You don't play by the rules of Wikipedia and your images are deleted by the Deletionist Task Force. If it is a non-free fair use image, please write a fair use rationale. If it is an obviously free image (PD-old-70 etc), please tag it accordingly. If you have a permission by the copyright holder to publish it under a free license, please email it to: permissions-en@wikimedia.org . SV1XV (talk) 16:26, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Namco Pony Super.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Namco Pony Super.jpg.

You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. File permission problem with File:Sfakianakis police.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Sfakianakis police.jpg.

Mystery trucklet[edit]

What am I?

Hello Skartsis, I have carefully "read" (I don't speak Greek) your great book, but can find no indication of what this vehicle might be. I photographed it in Pelekas, Corfu, in 2004 - they used to be more common in the late nineties, when I first begun visiting the place. I thought maybe it is a Dimitra, but can't find anything that looks precisely like this. Thankful for your help and happy to be able to provide another photo!  ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃  (talk) 02:38, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

I want to thank you both for your interest, and for this communication ! If you visited Greece, especially in the past, you must have noticed that there used to be an infinite number of small companies and even workshops that built these funny "agricultural" vehicles - just as there were similar ones building 3-wheelers in the late 1960s. Many of these builders could not be classified as "proper" manufacturers, since they did not use standardized parts, while their vehicles were often sad contraptions, to say the least. It is difficult to recognize many of these, since they often shared the same cab (if one could name this a cab !). They also, naturally, were sold around their "home bases", so if similar vehicles appeared in Corfu, chances are they were made by a local company such as Hercules. Similar cab I have seen in vehicles built in Crete and the Peloponnese. The few makers I included in my book and transfered to Wikipedia, are those (even if some of their creations look pathetic !) that were somehow "true" organized manufacturers. I am sorry I can't help you with a more specific answer. Please feel free to contact me for any other relevant issue, I'll be happy to help more if I can. Best Regards,Skartsis (talk) 16:36, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:MEBEA Fox.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:MEBEA Fox.jpg.

Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 11:08, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Field Bikes[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Field Bikes has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

per WP:CORP: no assertion of notability or coverage in third-party sources

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Reference[edit]

Hello Skartsis, I formatted a nice little reference for your book. If you copy and paste this portion:<ref name=Skartsis>{{citation | title = Made in Greece: Το ελληνικο αυτοκινητο, οχημα και αεροσκαφος | trans_title = The Greek cars, vehicles, and aircraft | first1 = Labros S. | last1 = Skartsis | first2 = Giorgos A. | last2 = Avramidis | publisher = Typorama and University of Patras Science Park, 2007 | location = Patras, Greece | year = 2003 | isbn = 960-7620-30-5 | page = 177 | edition = 2nd }}</ref>[1]

Then this appears, using the {{reflist}} template:

  1. ^ Skartsis, Giorgos A.; Avramidis (2003), Made in Greece: Το ελληνικο αυτοκινητο, οχημα και αεροσκαφος [The Greek cars, vehicles, and aircraft] (2nd ed.), Patras, Greece: Typorama and University of Patras Science Park, 2007, p. 177, ISBN 960-7620-30-5

You can naturally change the page number as you see fit. Cheers,  Mr.choppers | ✎  14:10, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Also, don't hesitate to use this picture of mine in any of your works, if it could be useful. Yassas,  Mr.choppers | ✎  14:14, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. You can also use material from the book in any form (just asking to make a reference to it). I made a little correction in your text about Automeccanica in the Charade article, as Zebra's body was metal. Best Regards, Labros Skartsis (talk) 17:32, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Temax TLF-1500.jpg[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

Thanks for uploading File:Temax TLF-1500.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:49, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

On one hand I understand that rules have to be followed when uploading images etc. (no doubt there), on the other hand I think sometimes we are going too far, especially when - I believe - enough evidence has been provided that there is no copyright violation. It is fine with me, if there are doubts please do delete the images. Skartsis (talk) 16:08, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
We just need a record of the permission that Mr. Georgiadis has given. If you have an e-mail from him that shows that he has released these images under the GFDL, please forward that e-mail to permissions-en@wikimedia.org and place the {{OTRS pending}} tag on the file description pages. —Bkell (talk) 19:06, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Controversy about media coverage of the 2009 Greek debt crisis[edit]

Hi Skartsis. I wanted to let you know that I just got to your article Controversy about media coverage of the 2009 Greek debt crisis in my NPP queue and I have serious concerns that it does not meet WP:NPOV and WP:NOTOPINION standards. Although extremely well sourced there appears to be significant evidence of opinion and editorial bias in the article. I have tagged it accordingly and encourage you to substantively edit the article to ensure compliance with applicable Wiki standards for article neutrality. Best regards -Ad Orientem (talk) 23:03, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

Obviously, I don't agree. The key point is the title of the article starting with the word "Controversy" (a feature not frequent in "classic" encyclopaedias, but prevalent in Wikipedia thanks to its more generic nature); by that title, it is made clear that it will cover issues involving disgreements and disputes about actions that had serious consequences, and relevant opinions will be summarized. Let's be frank; there must have been about 100,000 journal and "encyclopaedic" articles about the Greek crisis that - regarding the opposite side - do exactly what you mention above: present viewpoints (and selective data) as virtually undisputed facts, usually without the most elementary quantification.Skartsis (talk) 08:45, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Notification of automated file description generation[edit]

Your upload of File:Bouhagier 1980s.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 14:06, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

  • Another one of your uploads, File:Candia.jpg, has also had some information automatically added. If you get a moment, please review the bot's contributions there as well. Thanks! Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 15:01, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

BSK[edit]

You're welcome to create an article on that subject if you can do better than the previous version ("It is a company founded in 2008; here is a list of its merchandise"). Good luck. DS (talk) 15:41, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

So far, your version doesn't make any statements re: notability, and will probably be deleted soon. DS (talk) 16:17, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
