Speedy deletion nomination of PurposeGames[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on PurposeGames requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. AllyD (talk) 17:13, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Re: Your note re speedy deletion of article William Drury (died 1558)[edit]

Hi Smileguy91,

I got your message re speedy deletion of the article I created this afternoon, William Drury (died 1558). The grounds were that there is already another article on this person. I searched thoroughly before creating the article, and couldn't find one, and the link on the speedy deletion notice goes to a William Drury who died in 1579. There seems to have been an error. Consensus is that Junior high schools are not intrinsically notable, unless there is something special, or significant non-local coverage per WP:COMMON and WP:LOCAL. Hello, Taljudy, your article Glenda H. Eoyang was deleted under the criteria for speedy deletion that can be found at WP:CSD. That means that the page did not have significant content to identify who Glenda H. Eoyang was. If my memory serves, I marked the article under WP:CSD because it had a References section filled with redlinks, which were probably intended to be references, but did not turn out correctly, with no actual content in the page. If you have any further questions, or believe I have acted in error, please contact me again. Regards, smileguy91talk 21:08, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion of The Free University of NYC[edit]

Hi, as I wrote in my contestation of the speedy deletion, Free University of New York and The Free University of NYC are two completely separate things. One was a from for the Maoist PLP Party in the last 1960's. The other was a one day even that was party of the Occupy movement. Their names are close, but they are not the same thing at all. I went back and did the proper WP:SPLIT process -- I did not realize that one had to do that, as I thought it was only moves that required that. Hi, I am an editor who's been keeping an eye on the silk road Wikipedia page. I saw that you recently approved an edit by an anonymous user that removed the URL. I'm not entirely sure what was going on there, and I do not think you meant to do any harm to the page. But it'd just like to ask that if you are going to approve edits on that page, that you keep an eye on the URL field. The correct, cited value is silkroadvb5piz3r.onion, and vandalism to this field in particular is most of the reason the page is protected. I'm trying to open dialogue about the inclusion of the URL on the talk page, but pending any editor consensus, if you could just not accept edits that change the URL, that would be great. Proposed deletion of Carl Manneh[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Carl Manneh has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

All biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have references.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Tassedethe (talk) 15:16, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. The article has been improved and the template has been removed by User:In ictu oculi. smileguy91talk 21:08, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

Well, the template should not have been removed, considering that the sources used are unreliable, in that they are first-party sources and Twitter. I've expanded the article somewhat, but I cannot really expunge upon it further, as I happen to be friends with Carl Manneh and as such, it poses a conflict on interest. Could you perhaps find additional and alternative sources, such as news articles and what-not to replace the current ones? DarthBotto talkcont 03:52, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
I must agree to that the XFD template should not have been removed as per Wikipedia policy. While looking up sources, I did notice that you edited a Carl Manneh article at GiantBomb. I am continuing to attempt to add new sources to the article before May 28th. Regards, smileguy91talk 15:19, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
Update: The PROD was deleted by another user. Since there are still some reference issues, I reinstated the PROD. I believe that the article is near-properly sourced and I am confident that the article will be ready for dePRODing soon. smileguy91talk 15:26, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
Hello, do not re-add PROD BLP templates after references have been added, as you did here. If you have other concerns there are plenty of other quality templates, see Category:Citation and verifiability maintenance templates, which do not imply that the article is going to be automatically "nuked" in a couple of days if the template is in place. If you wish to put up an article for deletion again after it has been de-PRODed, the normal procedure would be to go through Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Regards, Tomas e (talk) 14:21, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

Your speedy deletion nominations[edit]

I have declined your speedy deletion nomination of Antenna (song) because notability is not the same as "significance," which is needed to satisfy WP:CSD#A7. However, the relevant part here is that the only part of the speedy deletion criteria that can be used for musical recordings is A9, and for that it needs to not just be a non-significant subject, but also have no corresponding article for the recording artist (which there is). Therefore, the article is not eligible for speedy deletion.

Similarly, I have declined your speedy deletion nominations of Gurindagunta. Please re-read the speedy deletion criteria and pay very close attention to what is explicitly stated as eligible for deletion under them, because if it's not explicitly stated, it isn't eligible. For issues regarding notability and other things that don't apply for speedy deletion, please use WP:PROD and WP:AFD.--Slon02 (talk) 17:56, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

Cockroaching and other matters at DRN and DFW meetup[edit]

Thank you for helping with DRN. They say that the problem with a cockroach isn't that they do so much actual damage, but that they fall into things and mess things up. Am I cockroaching your efforts with the Khan Noonien Singh dispute at DRN? I'm sorry if I did, but I've done all I'm going to do there so just shove me out of the way if I'm in it. In reference to Terra Nova, it's up to every volunteer to make exceptions, but the general proposition is that we won't open discussion until all or substantially all the disputants have made opening statements. About the only time I'll do it differently is if there is such a clear-cut policy solution to a dispute that discussion would be useless and invite further disruption. But it's your call as a volunteer. Finally, I just noted on your user page that you're from Fort Worth. I'm also from the Metroplex and we may be putting together a very informal meetup of some DFW editors in June. Update: The article now shows notability after Spymo made additions. Speedy removed. smileguy91talk 15:12, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Username notice[edit]

Hi there, you are the third one to point out that my username "FootballStatWhore" is potentially in violation of wikipedia's policy. OK, a stat whore is not related to sex workers in any means... It's just someone who is excessively concerned with statistics. FootballStatWhore (talk) 17:29, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Well, if many people could consider it a violation, you might want to consider changing it to prevent controversy. Cheers, smileguy91talk 17:32, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Actually I changed from an uncontroversial name to FootballStatWhore, to tell people what I do here. I will add the explanation to my userpage. Plus, three people is not "many people":) FootballStatWhore (talk) 17:55, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
Understood. smileguy91talk 18:40, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
I also had doubts about it, glad to hear an explanation...Matty.007 14:13, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Your request for rollback[edit]

Wikipedia Rollbacker.svg

Hi Smileguy91. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! INeverCry 02:11, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

auto removal of the dispute: 1948 Arab–Israeli War[edit]

Hi Apparently this dispute was removed by a bot. Should I restore it? Ykantor (talk) 14:50, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

Hello Ykantor, it seems like it was removed for inactivity, yet I don't know at this point whether restoring it is "legal" within WP guidelines. smileguy91talk 02:36, 25 June 2013 (UTC)

DRN inquiry[edit]

I've received an inquiry about Battle of Kursk, but only intended to offer a comment there. I'm also dropping this same note at Nbound's talk page. Just FYI. Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 01:09, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

The DRN case[edit]

Hello. What is the next order of business for this case Talk:Battle of Kursk#Use of term Blitzkrieg. I'm down for a compromise, if the other editors are willing: The blitzkrieg stays together with the supporting 4-plus citations. Then the succeeding sentence can point out that it is still disputed. The only problem with that is that it may one day get tagged with {{citation needed}} if they don't provide one. They could also put an inline endnote to point out that the term was never used in any orders issued for Citadel; and sources to support this should be easy to find. Although technically, if we follow that logic for the rest of the content in the article, we will have a sea of such endnotes. But I have no objections to its use in this instance if it will resolve the dispute. I wanted to post this suggestion in the noticeboard but I'm not sure if we are still waiting for something or if there is a unique protocol to the resolution of disputes. Especially since my previous replies turned out to be outside the proper protocol. EyeTruth (talk) 01:25, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Dispute[edit]

Hi Smileguy,

I want to intervene after your last comment. You make a false parallelism between me and Ykantor that I cannot leave without answer when you talk about "strong beliefs" on "both sides". I have been on wikipedia for 8 years. I have written 7 FA in French, two of which where translated in English. 4 of them directly refer to the '48 War. I have 20 books on the very specific topic the 1920-1948 period at home and 10 of them directly refer to the 1948 war too. ~I have been in contact with 4 historians to ask them their mind about some issues. One of them even read an article suggested to FA to suggest corrections. I am also a former AbrCom member on wp:fr. I know all the rules and I am well known by the contributors dealing with the I/P topic. Despite all this, I have been outed by stupid fanatics and accused of antisemitism. I have had to ask a lawyer to contact WMF at the time. And despite of this, I still have to manage newbees with patience, which I do. But please, don't make such parallelism, talking about "strong beliefs" when such a newbee comes here with the ambition of correcting the mistakes and propaganda on wikipedia and attack other contributors... Thank you for your understanding. Pluto2012 (talk) 07:26, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry if I have offended you. I hadn't reviewed the dispute after a long time and I may have forgotten the context of the case. Again, I apologize. smileguy91talk 10:36, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Smileguy,
You didn't offend me but I wanted to point out that I don't accept the parallelism that you made even if I am aware that this is a prerequisite to mediation. By the way, there is no dispute and no way to bring a constructive answer to Ykantor. We face a behaviour issue that will end alone on WP:AN/I.
Pluto2012 (talk) 09:39, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
I am sorry to intervene, but Pluto is far from being objective, since he prefers anti-Israeli stories and routinely deletes lot of my writing, although concise, well supported and objective (in my opinion), because the truth is not sufficiently anti Israeli in his view. As a side show, he routinely attack me personally. BTW Whatever I wrote is fully supported. e.g. "Si je comprend bien, Pluto2012 vous propose :d'agir comme WP:MEAT de Pluto2012" which means: "I understand well. Pluto propose that I will be his meat puppet" (the reply of user:Racconish to pluto). Ykantor (talk) 13:29, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
OK, I don't exactly want to turn my talk page into a DRN page, but both of you please summarize your opinions/views concisely, please? I am rather confused by the dozens of paragraphs on the DRN page and the article talk page. Thank you, smileguy91talk 13:34, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
  • As asked, I have recovered and slightly modified the deleted section. Should I copy it to the article talkpage? At the moment it is in my User:Ykantor/sandbox?
  • The section is not ready. It needs a lot of work, but it is sufficiently good to debate about it. It is rather long, and should eventually be concised.
  • In my opinion the dispute is a section deletion by user:pluto2012 against Wikipedia rules, and although he have not exposed any error there.
  • The usual Wikipedia process is debating the section content in the talkpage, and that exactly what I would like to do. I might be wrong, and I try to be open minded. However, in my experience Pluto is routinely deleting most of my writing, so unfortunately he might repeat it in this case too. He is greatly assisted by his friends, while I am alone. It might cause an automatic majority against me, and eventually to an incorrect section. (like other present errors and inaccuracies in the article.). So, I wonder what can be done if such a situation arises? Ykantor (talk) 17:55, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Ykantor, please do not mislead about what I write. Racconish did not wrote "Si je comprend bien, Pluto2012 vous propose :d'agir comme WP:MEAT de Pluto2012". I did. And your quotation is too short. And your translation is wrong. Visite fortuitement prolongée (talk) 20:32, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
  • It is very important to me to as reliable and accurate as possible. I wrote initially:"of asking other editor to be his sock puppet? ( that what the other editor understood)", and this is still accurate. I had later a minor mistake with the identity of the other user (not user:Racconis but User:Visite fortuitement prolongée ).
  • Because of my weak french, I double checked with both automated translations of Google and Bing. The Bing translation is:"If I understand well, Pluto2012 offers: to act as a WP: MEAT of Pluto2012". So the translation should have been: "if I understand well. Pluto propose that you will be his meat puppet" (one word is different). So, it seems that my initial claim is still fully justified. (this is a copy of my writing in the article talkpage) Ykantor (talk) 23:59, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
I am not taking any sides here, but Bing and Google Translate cannot be used as definite methods of translation. It sometimes misinterprets meanings of words, especially words that can act as synonyms. smileguy91talk 03:32, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
  • There are 2 (two) words difference between "I understand well. Pluto propose that I will be his meat puppet" and "if I understand well. Pluto propose that you will be his meat puppet".
  • Please do not mislead about what I write. "if I understand well. Pluto propose that you will be his meat puppet" is still an incomplete and inacurate translation of that (how a comma became a dot is beyond me).

Your involvement with DRN[edit]

Hi there, I noticed that you haven't been as active at DRN as you was before. DRN has been a bit backlogged lately and we could use some extra hands. We have updated our volunteer list to a new format, Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteers (your name is still there under the old format if you haven't updated it) and are looking into ways to make DRN more effective and more rewarding for volunteers (your input is appreciated!). If you don't have much time to volunteer at the moment, that's fine too, just move your name to the inactive list (you're free to add yourself back to active at any time). Jumping the gun[edit]

The article kronik (slang) was tagged for merging while I was in the midst of creating it. Since marijuana has no current section on slang terms other than a footnote, I do not understand the suggestion that this should be the target of the merge. The term kronik is not in fact on the list of marijuana slang terms [1]. The term has sufficient multiple meanings and cultural references to warrant a separate article.FriendlyFred (talk) 18:05, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

I still doubt that this page warrants its own article. I will try to make improvements to the page. smileguy91talk 21:01, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

The Female Struggle[edit]

You tagged The Female Struggle with {{db-repost}}, indicating that the article had previously been deleted as the result of a deletion discussion. Can you please provide a link to the AFD discussion that resulted in the prior deletion? Thanks. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:03, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

This may be substantial: [2] smileguy91talk 20:05, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

WP:CSD#G4 only applies to articles that have been deleted after a deletion discussion at WP:AFD. Articles that have been previously speedily deleted are not eligible under this criterion (although they may well be eligible under the original criterion by which they were previously deleted). In this case, this is an article about a book, which, by some strange Wikipedia consensus, is not eligible for speedy deletion under WP:CSD#A7. Since the article is not overtly and irreparably promotional, the best course of action is to PROD the article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:10, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
