Ambrose Burnside

Ambrose Burnside (1824–1881) was an American soldier and politician from Rhode Island, serving as governor and a United States Senator. As a Union Army general in the American Civil War, he conducted successful campaigns in North Carolina and East Tennessee and countered the raids of Confederate General John Hunt Morgan, but suffered disastrous defeats at the Battles of Fredericksburg and the Crater. His distinctive style of facial hair became known as sideburns, a term derived from his last name.

Isotope project[edit]

Hey, I noticed you're doing work on the isotope section of the elements table. I was wondering if you were aware of the project I started, Wikipedia:WikiProject Isotopes. Would you be interested in joining the project and helping out? I plan on really getting started after this week (being my finals week). I know it's daunting the thought of making entries on 3100 isotopes, but I think if we can get multiple people working on this it shouldn't be too bad. You're input would be great. — oo64eva (Alex) (U | T | C) @ 21:20, May 4, 2005 (UTC)

Helium[edit]

I just reverted your edit! You had removed information about unstable helium isotopes. Was there a good reason for this? Perhaps you could discuss it on the Talk page. Zeimusu | (Talk page) 07:20, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Environmental Chemistry[edit]

Yeah, I was mulling that over. I'll see if I'm still irritated by it in a couple of days time, and if so I'll consider it. ;-)

Existence of God merger[edit]

I'm attempting to develop a consensus in favor of merging the Arguments against the existence of God and the Arguments for the existence of God articles. A beta version of the resulting article is available at Existence of God. To date, there seems to be consensus in favor of this merger on the "for" talk page, I'm now trying to get a consensus together on the "against" talk page. Please visit Talk:Arguments against the existence of God to weigh in. I'm copy-and-pasting this message to everybody who has contributed to that talk page. crazyeddie 05:47, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

List of articles about Scientology[edit]

Hi Sunborn, I saw your suggestion regarding List of articles about Scientology but noticed you had not started the vote process, so I went ahead and did it for you. Please vote on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/List of articles about Scientology. --AI 6 July 2005 23:32 (UTC)

could use your help[edit]

Please take a look at the Talmidaism page which is now marked for deletion by Jayjg. Now that the disputed merge to the Nazarene page has been removed, Jayjg is attempting to delete the article entirely. He is using his position as an administrator to accomplish what he could not do as an editor. Please help prevent a hi tech lynching. --Ovadyah 15:22, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

At one time you recommended a consolidation of the Talmidaism article into the Ebionite page. It might be a good time to bring up that solution on the VfD that Jayjg set up if you still feel that way. There seems to be a consensus building toward that solution rather than outright deletion. --Ovadyah 20:28, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

'These are both mahayana views'[edit]

The Nikaya doctrine of nirvana-without-remainder means that there is no difference (after death) between a sravaka-buddha and a samyaksam-buddha, and most significantly, there is no ability for any type of buddha to benefit others after death. Therefore, as we are currently in the world of Shakyamuni, the only option for students of Shakyamuni is to achieve sravaka-buddhahood, or if one is to be a Bodhisattva, (like Maitreya), to postpone nirvana until one has manifested as a samyaksam-buddha.

Mahayana buddhism has a distinct doctrine (see eg. Lotus sutra) of nirvana-without-remainder, and so therefore there is a distinction between the sravaka-buddhas who are at peace, therefore not initially engaged in benefitting others (after death), and the samyaksam-buddhas who are actively engaged in benefitting others for all time. For the Mahayana it makes no sense to talk about postponing Nirvana, because they do not assert the same doctrine of nirvana-without-remainder as the Nikaya schools. Featured article for December 25th[edit]

I noticed you have listed yourself in Category:Invisible Pink Unicorn Wikipedians. That said, you will probably be interested in my suggested featured article for December 25th: Omnipotence paradox. The other suggestion being supported by others for that date is Christmas, although Raul654 has historically been against featuring articles on the same day as their anniversary/holiday. — BRIAN0918 • 2005-11-28 08:30

Wiki for Engineering[edit]

Engineering Wiki is a wiki entirely dedicated to collecting information about Engineering. The Engineering Wiki is in early development stages at the moment. We invite you to help devlope this wiki.

Spelling (and link)[edit]

Thanks for fixing the link to Mach number. I would suggest these changes to your user page:

The intellegent 25% minority has -> The intelligent 25% minority has

in one vandalism occurance -> in one vandalism occurence

No, I am open to existence -> No, I am open to existance

and on your talk page just above: We invite you to help devlope this wiki. -> We invite you to help develop this wiki.

Occurrence, not occurence. Existence, not existance (ie. the original spelling was correct).
It would be most helpful if one checks one's own spelling before suggesting spelling fixes.

I believe, with all deference to the commentator, and due diligence to the author of this talk page, that "existence" is correct. Citizen Sunshine (talk) 05:30, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Why do we have so few engineers as Wikipedians?[edit]

I am trying to understand why there are so few Wikipedians who are graduate engineers. Once I get a grasp on that, perhaps I may be able to formulate some ideas on how to attract more experienced engineers to become Wikipedians. It would be very helpful if you would respond to these a few questions:

  • Are you a university graduate engineer?
  • Please indicate in which of these engineering disciplines you obtained your degree:
    1. Aeronautical or aerospace engineering
    2. Bioengineer or biological engineering
    3. Chemical engineering
    4. Civil engineering
    5. Electrical engineering
    6. Environmental engineering
    7. Mechanical engineering
    8. Petroleum engineering
    9. Other
  • In what year did you obtain your degree?
  • What attracted you to participate in Wikipedia?

Please respond on my User talk:mbeychok page. Or you may respond to me via Wikipedia's email which I have enabled on my User:mbeychok page.

If you would rather not respond at all, that's fine also. Regards, - mbeychok 04:28, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Category sorting[edit]

I was thinking of it as University of Ontario Institute of Technology. That's why I thought it should sort under O in the categories Category:Nursing schools in Canada and Category:Universities in Ontario. --Usgnus 16:01, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

You'll notice that Waterloo, Western and Windsor are currently under W in Category:Universities in Ontario. But since UOIT is what the Uni is known as, I've used that as the sort key now. --Usgnus 20:21, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Proposal on Notability[edit]

Because you're a member of the Association of Inclusionist Wikipedians, I'm notifying you that the inclusionist proposa Wikipedia:Non-notabilityl is in progress to define the role of notability in articles. Please help us make this successful! Also note the proposal Wikipedia:Importance is a deletionist proposla that seeks to officially introduce notabiltiy for the first time. Make sure this is defeated! --Ephilei 22:56, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Infinity triangle.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Infinity triangle.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:39, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Dianetics triangle.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dianetics triangle.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Cirt (talk) 01:55, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Image:Infinity triangle.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

A tag has been placed on Image:Infinity triangle.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free image with no fair use rationale uploaded after May 4, 2006 which has been tagged as not having a rationale for more than 7 days.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Image:Infinity triangle.jpg|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. AfD nomination of Symbols of Scientology[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

An editor has nominated Symbols of Scientology, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Symbols of Scientology and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 13:59, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia Reviewer.svg

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 17:36, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
