I can see what has happended here the Novelinfoboxneeded tag was added to the talk page before the infobox to the main page, then the bot was revising the talk page entry and subsumed the tag in the the project banner. But the bot was not looking at the main page. So it is actually out of date information the tag should have been removed as you first thought. Novel series[edit]
Basic structure of the article is ok, as an example I would use The General series. I would maybe use first edition book covers as illustrations but not include the infoboxes untill the article is at the stage of seperating out the individual volumes. Hope that helps.
