John Gotti[edit]

I've been asking around for help on the John Gotti article; I'm interested in getting it FA'd in time for the release of the new biopic Gotti Jr's working on. Unfortunately, Wikiproject Crime seems to be rather inactive and the guy who wrote our only Mafia GA has given up on the American Mafia articles in general.

I've gotten a start by rewriting the section on the Castellano murder, but there are still large sections of his life not covered, and I've only got two books for references (Gotti: Rise and Fall and Mafia Dynasty.)

You think you could help? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 22:06, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

File:Joe Ardizzone.jpg needs authorship information.[edit]

Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Joe Ardizzone.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided),authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which:{{subst:usernameexpand|Ted87}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:19, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Antonio Morello/Clyde Brooks[edit]

Hi, Ted there is a question whether or not Antonio Morello is real (and its up for deletion), I believe author David Critchley he wrote organized crime in America New York City Mafia 1891-1931 there was no one named Antonio Morello.

I also came across Clyde Brooks (a former Vario crew member) I cant find any references to prove the information in the article. (its up for deletion).

What do you think? --Vic49 (talk) 16:13, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Rizzuto[edit]

Thank you for providing the links to unreferenced allegations I removed. I asked you before: please also provide the title and the source of the links. This is important, because in case the link goes dead, readers can still identify the reference as per WP:LINKROT. As you write articles, you can help prevent link rot in several ways. The first way to prevent link rot is to avoid bare URLs by using as many of the parameters in citation templates as possible to record the exact title, author, publisher, and date of the source. If the link goes bad, this added information can help a future Wikipedian, either editor or reader, locate a new source for the original text, either online or a print copy. This likely wouldn't be possible with only a bare URL that no longer worked. - DonCalo (talk) 14:02, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

I removed your text and will do so again if you keep on providing only bare urls and don't provide the title and the source of the links. I explained why this is important above and quoted the Wikipedia guidelines which you choose to ignore constantly. - DonCalo (talk) 18:23, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
There is a very easy solution, just use the following: <ref>[URL Title of article], Source, date</ref>. Thanks. - DonCalo (talk) 12:07, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Rollo Lawson.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Rollo Lawson.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. SchuminWeb (Talk) 15:54, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Call for Wikipedians in Residence in Africa[edit]

Hello,

I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [marilyn.doualabell@doualart.org] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [islahf@africacentre.net] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.

If you are not interested in applying, I would be very grateful if you could spread this call far and wide among your networks to ensure that both projects get excellent candidates. Here is the link for the information page: http://www.wikiafrica.net/two-wikipedians-in-residence-for-africa/

Your Arbitration Request[edit]

You have been in Wikipedia long enough that I am surprised that you don't know that other steps, such as dispute resolution should be used with a content dispute, and that arbitration isn't for content disputes anyway, but for conduct disputes that are complicating content disputes. You haven't provided any evidence of conduct issues that cannot be resolved. Also, you refer to the biographies of living persons policy, but the article is about a criminal gang that was active in the 1920s and 1930s, so that its members can be assumed to be dead. Try dispute resolution. If personal attacks or disruptive editing are complicating the dispute, there are venues for those prior to arbitration. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:17, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

I'm rather surprised myself ... taking an end-run around normal processes usually leads to a pretty harsh loss, and diminished support for your position overall. the panda ₯’ 18:47, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
