Diego Costa[edit]

Hi. I saw you made some clarifications to Diego Costa that was immediately removed by an other user. I reverted him but he has re-reverted me twice (I dont want to reach 3RR) and he has now made 3 reverts (including the one on your edit) so If you want to take a look at it and you want to have your clarification done that is up to you. Dont know why he is reverting, feels like WP:OWNERSHIP. QED237 (talk) 22:02, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi. In the presentation, it is not necessary to put all the information, because they appear later in the story line. Thank you.--User:Gringoladomenega (talk) 7 March 2014 (UTC)
It's not all the information, it's barely anything more than the last edition rather than improving its grammar and syntax. Why mention two teams he was loaned to and not the third? The Almightey Drill (talk) 21:29, 7 March 2014 (UTC)
Ok, you're right.--User:Gringoladomenega (talk) 7 March 2014 (UTC)
If you say you have more experience with this editor talk to him before he gets blocked. I did not mean to threaten him but look at his history. Several warnings and for example still 4 reverts at Giovani dos Santos. He has to stop now before someone blocks him (he should already have been). QED237 (talk) 21:54, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi again. I am writing this message on behalf of User:Always Learning after he asked me to do so on my talkpage.

First of all he wants to apologize if you find his words aggressive or bigot, he just wanted to discuss. All he did at Diego Costa was to find a compromise in the intro during a content dispute and you reverting his attempt to contact you without any explanation got him confused and a bit sad why editors do that to him. He felt like the blocked editor just being reverted all the time. It would have been better if you could take a bit of your time to respond instead of immediately remove the comment without explanation.

Please respond to this message and/or original message not just remove it and try to discuss with User:Always Learning, that would mean a lot. Thank you. QED237 (talk) 20:47, 8 March 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for the reply. But i sincerely hope you're not upset with me, it was not my intention, never. Thanks again for the "comeback". --AL (talk) 21:22, 8 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the headsup, i knew about the site already, use it every now and then, 99% of the time as a link tough.

Thank you again, happy ones! --AL (talk) 00:02, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

About Maniche: 1 - no he has left as well; 2 - yes, it goes in box. I have already taken care of that, and added another ref in INT.CAREER. Cheers --AL (talk) 21:38, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Yes, my bad in the scoresheets :( Speaking of that, please: the dashes used in match results are the same than those in infobox "–", not the small ones, "-". Thanks. --AL (talk) 00:22, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Found nothing, but he has left (see this Portuguese web, useless as ref but a proof nonetheless. The names in bright in EQUIPA TÉCNICA ("Technical staff" in Portuguese) are the present ones, including the new manager Jorge Costa, the names in dull have already departed). --AL (talk) 02:41, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm Walter Görlitz. I noticed that you made a comment on the page Pep Guardiola that didn't seem very civil, so it has been removed. Wikipedia needs people like you and me to collaborate, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Don't ever state that I or any user "clearly lacks knowledge in the subject area". Walter Görlitz (talk) 22:39, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be engaged in an edit war with one or more editors according to your reverts at Pep Guardiola. Although repeatedly reverting or undoing another editor's contributions may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, and often creates animosity between editors. Instead of edit warring, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. While edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, breaking the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. Thank you. Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:50, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Paolo Pulici may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. Diego Costa - Reply[edit]

No sir, wrong category as can be, whomever added it added it unduly. --AL (talk) 16:33, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

Nobody added it, I was just asking for the guidelines on whether it should have been. Obrigado. In theory, if Costa were to move to, say PSG, would he be a "Brazilian expatriate in France" now he is Spanish? The Almightey Drill (talk) 17:21, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

Good point! No, i think he would be a "SPANISH EXPATRIATES IN FRANCE"-type :) --AL (talk) 19:01, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi, there are still issues that need addressing if Flappy Bird is to stay as a Good Article, and the GAR has been up for a week now. DYK for Milan Baroš[edit]

Thanks for this contribution from me and the DYK projectVictuallers (talk) 07:31, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi there TAD, AL "speaking",

i don't know if a guideline exists, and if so what it is. I have seen players with only ONE youth year with a team given its category (example Evandro Brandão, i reverted and was re-reverted, gave up of course), my M.O. is to give the category if a players spends several years with youths. The example you showed me, i don't even know why on earth does he have an article, is being a youth international notable? I thought not.

Wish i could have been of more help, cheers --AL (talk) 20:58, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

  • And regarding the reversion you made regarding prose, i don't think we are supposed to write in the present tense in an encyclopedia, but i did not revert you of course, just saying. --AL (talk) 21:01, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Thiago Motta[edit]

I try to NEVER write (other than intro of course, the part where we refer to his current club status) in present tense in an encyclopedia, and we are not encouraged to do that. You reverted me, fair enough, no point in engaging in a pointless edit war, it stays your way.

Happy ones --AL (talk) 00:09, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

KOKE - Teamwork[edit]

You update here and there, i try to do the same. I immediately understood the error of my ways after rolling you back, and tried to reach a compromise between your stuff and mine.

About his assists bit: PLEASE don't remove my ref about his 13 assists, it's as reliable as they get. I know, i removed yours as well, but it was because (like i said in the summary) it was merely a table and not a newspaper article. You have since reinstated it and i have to respect you and your work, so it stays. Please do the same with mine OK?

Sorry for any inconvenience, happy week --AL (talk) 14:55, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

  • Thank you for your kind words man, but i'm not the easiest type to work with as well unfortunately. About my decision? It's final, eight years was a good run methinks, and as they say in the football jargon, no one's irreplaceable ;) --AL (talk) 17:22, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

1 - sorry, i don't do those (competition final articles i mean), too much on my hand already. But there a few Portuguese users that operate on that, namely ALEXGREENE87 if i'm not mistaken, we got that covered;

2 - never was interested in that, never will be (working in a newspaper, especially a sports one, too much fanatic approaches flowing by because reporters/columnists are nothing but that, fans with a pen/mouse). Happy week --AL (talk) 17:58, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

van Gaal[edit]

WP:SOURCE states that "articles on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy." WP:THIRDPARTY defines third–party as "one that is entirely independent of the subject being covered." Kingjeff (talk) 07:36, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Well could we include both sources then, to have it word-by-word and as reported by the reliable BBC? '''tAD''' (talk) 07:38, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
I went back and checked the source. I was actually thinking that both together might be good. Kingjeff (talk) 07:40, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
OK, it's good that we've reached an agreement. '''tAD''' (talk) 07:42, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Christian Stuani[edit]

Hi there TAD, AL "here",

i know it was not you that added it to storyline (i imagine, since it was anonymous) and i apologize for rolling you back, but i profit to say this is an encyclopedia, and we are not going to write about every goal Stuani or any other player scores. Even especial in Stuani's case, he's a striker so it's not "news" he scores goals.

Attentively --AL (talk) 15:30, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

You'll never believe it, I just wrote a similar thing on your page! '''tAD''' (talk) 15:31, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

I think we should leave the N.IRELAND stuff in text, the SLOVENIA one in the goal chart. Talk about your telepathy! --AL (talk) 15:33, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

I have a second version which highlights that he scored in both games, in a very quick summary. Thoughts? '''tAD''' (talk) 15:36, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
Stuani was selected by manager Óscar Tabárez for the finals in Brazil. He scored in both of Uruguay's warm-up matches for the tournament, the only goal of the game against Northern Ireland[1] and the second in a 2–0 win over Slovenia.[2]
  • I'll paste that in his article, nice work, no objections from this end. --AL (talk) 15:41, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
    • Thanks, good teamwork we have. What would I ever do without you? '''tAD''' (talk) 15:47, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the kindness man. But no, my summaries are not always "all that jazz", unfortunately. Only thing i'm not totally happy with in these eight years. --AL (talk) 15:55, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

Don't be disappointed! You've contributed all that football knowledge to future generations! '''tAD''' (talk) 15:57, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
  • Of course mate, have already corrected it. Of course, as per usually, the punks will not comply to it and will merge both spells anyday now :( --AL (talk) 16:54, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

re: Januzaj[edit]

I believe it is an "infobox" error in the BBC source. If you look at "Live Text Commentary" at the bottom he came on at 73:32, had a foul at 84:51 and so on. I looked at soccerway and they also had him on at 74th. QED237 (talk) 00:26, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

I believe you. If you also look, Witsel came on in the 74th and 92nd according to the BBC, and Lukaku was subbed despite being on the bench the whole game! Sorry for my ignorance! '''tAD''' (talk) 00:28, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Apologies for erroneous rollback[edit]

Sorry about that on the "Britain First" article - looks like Salix and I jumped in to help fight the vandals at the same time and I accidentally rolled back their edit rather than that of the vandals; mea culpa. Arkady Rose (talk) 12:28, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

It's OK, I could see that you are an admin, not a vandal '''tAD''' (talk) 12:31, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
I roped in User:David Gerard to change the protection level of the page to your last edit so hopefully that'll put a stop to further vandalism. Thanks for being on the ball! Arkady Rose (talk) 12:33, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
Britain First has a pending request for indefinite semi-protection, which I believe is much healthier, as the problem here is IP vandalism, not content dispute '''tAD''' (talk) 12:36, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
I'm not worried either way, if consensus is to take it back to semi, I have no objection at all - David Gerard (talk) 15:18, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

Brazilian-born Spanish footballer[edit]

Hi, for Diego Costa, you reverted my edit of adding "Brazilian-born" to the intro. One reason I think it's helpful is that the article doesn't really make clear that he is Brazilian by birth, as it doesn't contain anything about his personal life. Also see Eduardo da Silva, where we call him a "Brazilian-born Croatian footballer". Thanks. howcheng {chat} 16:06, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

The first paragraph of his career opens with "born in Lagarto, Sergipe". '''tAD''' (talk) 16:30, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

Could not care less how they fare to be honest, national teams are nothing but football clubs with the flag inserted in the jersey, and i don't support any clubs (a little sympathy for Athletic Bilbao that is all) so... That's just my humble opinion --AL (talk) 20:58, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

I'll try not to get too hyped up. Don't hesitate to ask if you need wikiassistance. --AL (talk) 21:07, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

  • Have already reinstated 99,99999999% of your storyline (sans the overlinking of Postiga), and in Éder's case it makes some sense to write that, thus my sincere apologies. But, in WP, game-by-game storyline is highly discouraged so, if Éder plays in the third game don't mention it, unless he scores of course!

Sorry for any inconvenience --AL (talk) 12:11, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

  • Yes, was about to tell you that (without the source however), but you beat me to it. If you remove the game from the chart and the box, you won't be wrong of course (not the first time Equatorial Guinea has been involved in these situations, no sir), so be my guest.

One request: please leave the INT.GOALS chart (by the way i tidied up the STATISTICS chart, it looks shabby but it's just that the CLUB part is still empty!) in the INT.CAREER section, it's not a statistic per se as it contains various elements (venue, opponent, etc).

José Claramunt - Reply[edit]

I'm not promising anything as far as the flagicon goes (i'm very "thick" when it comes to technicalities!), but i'll have a look at the article the latest Sunday evening.

Cheers --AL (talk) 20:49, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

  • I replied wrong (but then corrected it immediately upon seeing the red link) without any "hidden agenda", José, Josep, they're both good. --AL (talk) 20:54, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

No. For what it's worth, Guardiola should never have been moved as well, JOSEP GUARDIOLA was 100% correct in my view, why not move José Mourinho to ZÉ MOURINHO? Don't worry, JOSEP CLARAMUNT is 100% correct. --AL (talk) 20:59, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

Cleanup finished (i see you have already taken care of the flagicons "thingy", kudos), i have replaced some sources with real ones (replaced with newspaper articles, stuff like EU-FOOTBALL should be a mere link or a ref for a chart of national team statistics, at best). I deduce your "giving" him 29 caps was a typo, he has 23 per all available sources and then some.

Happy week --AL (talk) 00:39, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

  • I'll have a look at his brother, tomorrow. --AL (talk) 01:22, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the refreshing beverage! Bottoms up, cheers (by the way, E. Claramunt's page also improved, to the best of my abilities, hopefully you and WP will both like it)!! --AL (talk) 14:33, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Iván Calero and Alberto (footballer)[edit]

Hi there, MYS "here".

Do you know that these two players aren't fully pro? You're disrespecting both WP:FOOTY and WP:GNG by creating them. And before you reply me that both are in a fully-pro league (which is right), they didn't played a single match in the division to pass both guidelines.

Also, your referencing modes is totally wrong.

Cheers, MYS77 08:51, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

Also, please see this discussion, about Alberto. MYS77 08:54, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
Only sitting on the bench does not confer notability, the player actually has to PLAY at least a second. Alberto didn't played a single match in Segunda División or La Liga, thus not being a fully-pro player (Soccerway shows an incorrect one match for him, and the discussion I pointed to you explained that). Cheers, MYS77 15:52, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Always Learning here, just saw this strolling around (am no longer around as an editor, my account and its details have been vanished): yes, as MYS has pointed out through a diff with a discussion, that ALBERTO guy does not have any business having an article, third time it is created and (hopefully) third time it will be deleted. It was Daniel Aranzubia that played that game! Getting really tiresome...

Happy week -- (talk) 16:10, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

    • I'll move the 2 to sandbox before deletion - both could make pro debuts this season '''tAD''' (talk) 16:16, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

Yes they could, they could also die before that (knock on wood). -- (talk) 16:17, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

  • Segunda starts on 23 August and Alberto seems to be a regular. Championship has started but Calero wasn't even on the bench for the Rams...I just sketched up his article after reading on his transfer, excited by the mentions of Atletico and Spain '''tAD''' (talk) 16:21, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
Just to let you know, I have a draft about Alberto here, so if you see that he a played a fully-pro match and is not created, move the page to the original title (Alberto Manuel Domínguez Rivas). Thanks, MYS77 22:16, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
Oh, that's a good thing. No problem, mate! If you need more help, just "call" me that I'll help you. About Alberto, I moved my draft to an official page just in the day of his debut. Cheerio, MYS77 01:24, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Gay Meadow[edit]

Hello. I think the WP:BRD cycle suggests we're supposed to discuss after the initial revert, but hey, my "no" revert was no more informative than your "yes it is", so we're probably even. Getting the original research out of the way first: my mother's family are from Shropshire and I've never heard them call it anything but plain Gay Meadow, but I agree that's pure original research. The STFC page about the ground is consistent in using just Gay Meadow, as is Simon Inglis in the Football Grounds of Britain. I suspect that any recent drift in some sources towards using the article is an assimilation to the form of the New Meadow rather than a reflection of either official or general usage. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:02, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

Please see a few searches from free-online mass media:,,,,, No, I haven't looked at all the results :) I've looked at the summaries you get with each google result, up to about the first 30 results for sources that returned that many. There are a few results for "the Gay Meadow", but if you take out composites such as "the Gay Meadow pitch", there are very few compared with the article-less version. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:32, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

re:Calum Chambers[edit]

Hi, I am not very good at images so you may want to ask an other editor. But I do not think you can rescale and fix the image by the parameters. Uploading a new version of the same image should be okay butn then you have to consider all other articles on other wikipedias it is being used on, so I am not sure. QED237 (talk) 16:28, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

I saw now on commons that the picture has already been cut out from a bigger picture so cutting by waist and upload as new name as done for chambers should be okay but I dont know how and the regulations for it. There should be some image place/noticeboard were you can ask for help. QED237 (talk) 16:33, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

Munir is not part of the main team. It is inscribed with the B team: See:

No problem, mate. In Spain, the first team players wear numbers between 1-25. The rest are enrolled in the B team. In case, Munir is Barcelona player B, but can make games for the first team. Greetings.
Some players, like those mentioned, and Sergi Darder or Juami of Málaga CF lead above numbers 25, but are considered first team players, but too young to play in the B team.

João Moutinho[edit]

Hi there TAD,

please, my storyline in this player's international career was 100% correct, his debut occurred on 17 August 2005 not 2006 like you said.

Please reply (if you choose to do it of course, not saying you must) in your page, i'm trying to keep my page as clean as possible as i am 99,99999999999999% retired. Thank you, happy week -- (talk) 23:27, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Portugal NT callups[edit]

Hi there TAD, AL "here",

I think (not 100% sure but almost) that there much better refs for what concerns the title of my message than a mere link. Portugal is one of the best-ranked teams in the world right now, and with a manager change certainly several stuff will be available.

I have already cleaned up Tiago Mendes (which by the way contained Vitorino Antunes' EU-FOOTBALL link) and Antunes, please do it in all the other (Portuguese) players in which you have added the stuff in that "sitting". If you need help because several refs might only be available in Portuguese, don't hesitate to ask, but please ditch EU-FOOTBALL.INFO like what it is, a mere link or a reference for the statistics charts, not storyline.

Keep it up, happy Saturday -- (talk) 18:02, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

  • Oddly enough, could not find one single ref about Antunes and his Kuwait debut (only refs for his imminent callup/appearance and akin), so we'll have to make do with this "ref" for the time being. -- (talk) 18:21, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
    • There was an asterisk next to this match on eu-foot. Maybe it was unofficial? But still such a game would be reported. Very strange '''tAD''' (talk) 18:22, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
      • About Tiago, I must have copied the wrong link. There was an article from which I should have used, I believe '''tAD''' (talk) 18:24, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

From what i understand, man, i think it may have been unofficial, as i think (not 100% sure, oh memory where are thou? Seven years ago) it was a Kuwaiti CLUB not the national team (however, does count that one in his number of caps). About Tiago link...hey no worries, happens to the best (as in this case)! -- (talk) 19:15, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi there TAD,

when you explained your reasoning for Éder (Portuguese footballer)'s international career i totally understood it, he did have a rocky 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign, so it was good to explain both his appearances.

However, that is not Paco Alcácer's case, we are not to write about all his int'l goals other than in the sub-chart, as: 1 - it's overdetail, plain and simple; 2 - he is a STRIKER, he is expected to score (many) goals.

Attentively -- (talk) 22:28, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

I see what you mean, I fell into the trap that two consecutive goals merited description of the third. This can all be condensed at the end of the campaign when we can say "Alcácer scored _ goals for Spain in UEFA Euro 2016 qualification, including one each in the first _ games of the campaign" '''tAD''' (talk) 22:39, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Yes, let's wait to see how many he gets (if any) until the end of the campaign, then condense it (i hope he gets EIGHT and Diego Costa only the one he got yesterday - can't do anything about that now - i imagined the coaches would draw the line of the foreign players' sickness in the clubs, but i see not. Spain, for example, now has THREE Brazilians in the squad, Costa, Thiago Alcântara and Rodrigo Moreno Machado, despicable). -- (talk) 23:45, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

To be fair, only Costa knowingly moved to Spain. Thiago and Rodrigo were a little too young to know better '''tAD''' (talk) 10:13, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

I'm afraid i don't follow man. Yes, Thiago and Rodrigo moved to Spain in their teens (Thiago even before that), but they CHOSE to represent Spain already as grown men. But I repeat, it all starts with the manager that selects those particular players to a national team. -- (talk) 12:16, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

He's not known as Yaya Talisca (in Portugal), he is simply known as Talisca. SLBedit (talk) 00:31, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

  • Replying to your suggestion: I'm sorry mate, i'll NEVER again edit in Benfica-related articles, not after being insulted/taunted by a punk troll that wanted to remove a reliable ref ( and replace it with a blog to make it the undisputed truth that S.L. Benfica had been robbed in the 2014 UEFA Europa League Final, that "person" also replaced Beto (Portuguese footballer, born 1982)'s nickname with "Betoteiro" (a compound word in Portuguese of his sporting name and "batoteiro", "cheater").

More details on that "charming" and "friendly" discussion with that piece of garbage (no quotation marks here!) here (, he and his posse can have the whole shebang all for themselves (articles on players, manager, club). If you notice, I took the trouble of notifying the "person" I had nothing against Benfica (in EIGHT YEARS I never once edited in Benfica's page, anon or not), I was only seeking a neutral point of view to the articles. Well, I still had to hear it ("You clearly don't like Benfica"), and of course it escalated from there on.

My suggestion: you can take it to WP:FOOTY telling what user is doing that (if it's more than one that maybe it's more tricky) so that he can go there, defend himself and learn on WP's policies on overdetail.

Regards from Portugal -- (talk) 01:30, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Crikey, what a strange character. That's a shame, seeing as SLB make roughly 33% of notable football in Portugal.

I don't find "Yaya Talisca" to be relevant/notable. SLBedit (talk) 17:32, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Hélder Postiga: third time I remove overlinking in his storyline (Deportivo de La Coruña is already wikilinked in his Zaragoza sub-section), third time you reinstate it. Please man, don't, I know exactly what I am doing.

  • Sorry if I seemed aggressive, not my intention mate. -- (talk) 15:10, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
    • Ola AL, I was wondering what you think about Portugal recalling so many players from the last decade. Is it substantial to bring back Carvalho, Tiago, Postiga, Bosingwa et al when the current crop of young players aren't setting the world alight? '''tAD''' (talk) 22:52, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

(sorry TAD, only saw your message now) I don't think so, especially Bosingwa and Carvalho (age, quarrelling with management and federation; the latter had the audacity of walking out of training camp when he knew he was not starting!), there is for example Cédric Soares and José Fonte for those positions. Tiago was showing in the last months an impressive level at Atlético, so he deserved it, way better than Miguel Veloso currently. Postiga? Hey, anyone is better than Éder, who is not even Portuguese!

Another dismal performance by Portugal (including the #7, yes, goal that even I could have scored, and I am way worse than Ali Dia!), but they won somehow. Cheers -- (talk) 19:28, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

  • I know about your opinions on importing Brazilians into European teams, but what do you think about Raphael Guerreiro? It's different to for example Petit who came home when he was young, but I don't think Guerreiro has ever been resident in Portugal in his lifetime! '''tAD''' (talk) 19:34, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

Neither are imports, both Petit parents are Portuguese, I don't know about Guerreiro but, with a surname like that and the fact that there is an humungous contingent of Portuguese immigrants in France, i "suspect" either his mother or father (or both, maybe they chose to name him "RAPHAEL" instead of "RAFAEL" to honour the country that housed them) are Portuguese.

In my book (but i don't make the rules), nationality is "awarded" by two factors: direct descent (parents, none of that grandparents stuff by which several English players play for Wales, Scotland or Ireland) or place of birth. Guerreiro and Petit meet the criteria, Éder does not (born in Guinea, to Guinean parents).

Nice conversing with you, happy Saturday -- (talk) 19:14, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

I had presumed (before you found evidence) that Guerreiro would have a French mother seeing as he doesn't seem to have a Portuguese name with two family names - I suppose (for example) Raphael LeJeune de Guerreiro would sound rather strange. I had known about the large Luso community in France through Pires (who stayed with France), Petit, Teixeira etc. England haven't played the diaspora so much (I can only think of Owen Hargreaves in my lifetime), although I'm not sure if you knew, but Radamel Falcao attempted to pick up a British passport as a lad in order to play without limits in the European Union. '''tAD''' (talk) 20:44, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

WOW! Did not know no siree, keep bringing those goals on Radamel Hawk ("Falcão" is the Portuguese word for said bird of prey)! Again, I'm afraid I don't fully see eye to eye with you, Hargreaves is not a "diaspora card" played by the FA, his parents are English, thus he's not an import no? -- (talk) 21:30, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Fun fact (saw it today in a Portuguese newspaper): did you know Guerreiro does not speak one word of Portuguese? He may not be an import but, as Gordon Ramsay would put it...fuck me! -- (talk) 21:35, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

That's quite amazing! As the Welsh and Irish anthems are in their indigenous languages (which at least half of the natives are not proficient in), it's a laugh to see the English cast-offs lining up for those countries! '''tAD''' (talk) 21:41, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
Is there an online copy of that article? Such a detail is notable for his Wikipedia entry. '''tAD''' (talk) 21:43, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Browsed the Portuguese web, retrieved it to article. -- (talk) 22:11, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your extra additions, but why do we have to speak of the same guy (Ronaldo) in all articles? Of course, I have not reverted you, only cleaned up redirects and overlinking. -- (talk) 00:12, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Is Rui Jorge (in the article on Guerreiro) one of those guys like Luís Fabiano and Filipe Luís who is referred to by both given names, and not doing so (calling him "Jorge") is an error? Of course, the notable exception to that rule is Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro. '''tAD''' (talk) 23:29, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

No problem in addressing him as only Jorge as well, but "Rui Jorge" is accurate indeed. Regarding your last line: see what I meant? THOUSANDS of players in the world, what is the example you show me? Today, sickening report from my country's RTP channel (I imagine it will be like that in most countries, but I don't witness that, my country's media is sickening as can be), guy is subbed at half-time, they still manage to talk about him 20,30 times, basically saying "the game is over at 45 minutes, but these people paid a full ticket"... idiots!

I will correct Jorge/Rui Jorge in his article. Cheers -- (talk) 23:12, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

The reason I removed the hatnote on Danny (footballer) pointing to Daniel Alves was that Alves is not known solely by his given name. Yes, Danny has Alves as a family name, but a user would not have ended up on that article by writing "Daniel Alves". However, I could see the logic in putting a hatnote to the plethora of players who have been known by the moniker "Dani" '''tAD''' (talk) 01:24, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

  • Was about to notify you of my actions in Danny's article: 1 - the hatnote is of value because both players have DANIEL and ALVES in their full names, and some people less familiar with the sport may confuse them; 2 - I reinstated my wording in the late part of the international career storyline because you removed he scored the goal against Cyprus, and no need to say "Portugal" all the time.

Cheers, be safe -- (talk) 01:26, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

OK, understood. '''tAD''' (talk) 01:29, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

Ah, and only now noticed your tag addition in Danny's article. I think the other was/is much more direct (again I repeat, due to the naming similarities) but, since this has to be all about teamwork and the article is not mine (and no one else's really), I guess both tags can "co-exist". -- (talk) 01:37, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

Explaining another reversion (intro): in the future, please write something to the effect of "An international since..." or just the way I left it, "X player represented Y nation at Z competition(s)". If you write "He has this many caps", you'll have to update it always, game by game. -- (talk) 01:39, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

I usually do caps at milestones, something I learnt off you. He had "over 25" before, but 30 became the next milestone so I put "30 caps". Then it will be "over 30" and so on '''tAD''' (talk) 01:42, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

Hey, I have a funny story for you, a bit like our discussion on Guerreiro. So I was in class at university the other day (in French, ironically) and I was paired with this girl who I knew was English, but has a Portuguese name. She flipped her mobile phone over, showing a protective case in the pattern of the Portuguese flag. So, to make conversation with a bleeding obvious question as us Brits often do, I asked "Voce é portuguesa?"

She gave me a look as if I had been speaking Quechua to her.

We have a term "Plastic Paddy" for people who overstate their tenuous Irish origins. I think I found a "Plastic Portuguese" '''tAD''' (talk) 01:51, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

Wow, sure did not hurt to try asking :) Still about the technicalities, I don't remember writing the current number of caps for an active player, but I might have, sure. I am, however, currently trying to avoid doing that, only doing it when the player has already retired, at least from the NT.

Have a pleasant night, me I'm logging off -- (talk) 01:55, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

Hola (and this is indeed man, it's Spanish, the "conqueror"'s language!), if you can:

can you help me rephrase the following in Chano (footballer)'s article please? It'll only take you a minute or so, being that you are a speaker of the language. Paragraph #2 of his club career, I am trying to say that he was an undisputed starter when he left Betis, and continued as such when signing for Tenerife; however, I am almost 100% sure that my choice of words to explain that ("That status maintained with Chano's 1991 move to...") was absolutely rubbish :(

Thanks in advance, happy weekend and French lessons -- (talk) 23:40, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

I had a look over it now (I couldn't earlier, collateral IP ban from being on a shared server) and it only needed very small changes for it to flow '''tAD''' (talk) 22:51, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
Oh, seeing as I've witnessed you grab match reports from archived newspapers in the 1970s, do you think you could do the same for Chano's sole international cap? 1994 seems an awkward year, too soon to be in some public archives, and too long ago to be an Internet article '''tAD''' (talk) 22:53, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
Oh, and it's not just French. I study Spanish advanced and Italian ab initio. There was a similar option for Portuguese, but it couldn't fit into my schedule. Although what I've heard from people who did take it, it's just learning about Brazilian culture at the moment, no language at all! '''tAD''' (talk) 22:56, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

I'll get to it (Chano's Spain cap), and i'll also leave the website I use 100% of the times (for the 50s/60s/70s/so on match reports), see here (, you enter the site and then you choose the "hemeroteca" option near the top, that will lead to a field where you insert the date you want. But bear in mind the following: if you want a cap for a player on, let's say, 6/6/70, choose the following day's edition, that is to say, 7 June.

Cheers -- (talk) 19:59, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

Portuguese naming customs[edit]

What should be used in Júlio César (football goalkeeper, born 1979)?

  • {{Portuguese name|Soares|Espíndola}}
  • {{Portuguese name|Soares|de Espíndola}}
  • {{Portuguese name|Soares|De Espíndola}}

See also Lima (footballer). Cristiano Ronaldo displays "dos Santos". SLBedit (talk) 01:15, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

If you are not Portuguese how are you sure when adding {{Portuguese name}} to articles? SLBedit (talk) 02:21, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
In a majority of cases, it is obvious enough. This Júlio César one isn't '''tAD''' (talk) 02:25, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
Unfortunately, it's not. Even when the fullname is very long one can't be sure which the family names are.
"This template may be put at the top of a biographical article to explain to readers unfamiliar with Portuguese name which part of a name is the family name. If there are two family names, these can both be stated."
Portuguese name states "The most complete combination of names possible. In this case, the person could have two surnames coming from each parent or one coming from one parent and three from the other. The latter case is not so common, but it is impossible to tell for sure just by looking at the name".
A person could have the name "João Abreu Melo Almeida", one given name and three family names, and one would add this by mistake {{Portuguese name|Melo|Almeida}}. SLBedit (talk) 03:05, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello my friend, how are you?

I can expand the page, of course (and I'll do it), but this guy do not pass WP:FOOTY. UE Cornellà is not a fully-professional team (it plays in Segunda División B, an "amateur" division in Spanish football). As I said, I'll improve the page but I'll include a WP:PROD too.

I recommend you to copy the page after this to a draft (without the PROD, of course). You can do it by creating a page with the following: User:Yourusername/Page_Name. Allright? :) Happy week, MYS77 02:03, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

I know that Real is a fully-pro team, but Cornellà isn't. In previous discussions, admins stated that "a player can only be created in National Cup matches if both teams are fully-pro". They deleted Lucas Viale (a player of L'Hospitalet at that time) even with him appearing in matches against Barcelona for the Cup. Cheers, MYS77 02:22, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Hello TAD, how are you? Same thing for Lucas Hernández I see... I'm still thinking that these pages are not notable at all, but... I'll not complain. Cheers, MYS77 01:15, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

I left a note that you may find of some use in MYS' page. I also concur with him, these creations are highly risky (Muñoz, Lucas H.), they are not notable in my book, like I thought Enzo Zidane was not back in the day when someone else created it (why on earth does he merit a WP article just for being the son of who he is?). If Segunda División B is not notable overall, why does WP open these exceptions?

Cheerio -- (talk) 17:51, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Before making Munoz, I was entirely aware that Segunda B does not count as a professional league. However, I was unaware of this rule that players from Primera/Segunda had to play a cup game against a team from THOSE divisions. I don't see the difference between playing for Real Madrid against Cornella in the national stages of the Copa del Rey and playing against for-argument's sake-Sabadell. It's still playing in a national cup for a fully professional club. But now I know and I can't change the rules. I'll remove these chicos to a sandbox '''tAD''' (talk) 19:27, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Sure, I'll do some "review" in this page... the guy played for a lot of youth sides (and also for CD Basconia as a senior, like almost all Athletic youth players do).

Don't trust too much in other WPs, I don't think they have a precise and good guideline like in here. In the Spanish WP, everything is too "messy", I don't like it that much.

Re: Indian Super League Final[edit]

Will do mate. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 23:07, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

Agree. But to be honest, while the first season was great, the real stuff will happen now because now we need to see what the organizers have learned and how they are going to change the league based on that. Will it be longer? Will we go for younger marquees? Will coaches change? etc etc. Still, exciting stuff but this season was surely "Test Season" while next season will be "Season 1". --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 01:27, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi again. Just been thinking about this GA review and that the first point I made (second para overall on the page) was actually not addressed. What's your take on it? Thanks, C679 18:59, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

I notice you've removed the description of "pornographer" from the paragraph on Richard Desmond's donation. It is an entirely appropriate description.

Try looking for what Richard Desmond has actually published rather than a not very well organised search. Asian Babes is not a cultural magazine! Readers' Wives, Mega Boobs, Big Ones, Fifty Plus, Big and Black, Horny Housewives, Only 18 and Mothers-in-Law are among his other titles. Yasmin Alibhai-Brown in The Independent described Desmond as "the seedy porn baron" ("I can take Mr Desmond's porn but not his racism"). The BBC refers to his "portfolio of soft-porn magazines" and describes him as "the gritty porn publisher". An Observer profile by Ben Summerskill in 2002 says "He still detests being called a 'porn magnate'. But porn magnate he is. Asian Babes, Readers' Wives, 40 Plus have all appeared from his stable". His TV stations including Television X and Red Hot TV are advertised in his papers; The Guardian describes them as "porn channels". Management Today says that "he's had porn channels for some time". Programmes for tonight can be found at and (make sure there are no kids around when you look!)* and show that Desmond is quite clearly a porn baron.

The story is not about his papers, at least, not yet, since they have not come out in support of UKIP. It is about him personally donating to UKIP. He is the proprietor of Express Newspapers, but through his other companies he is a pornographer. Emeraude (talk) 14:16, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

None of that is mentioned in the source story, so it's irrelevant to the article. He's also a 63-year-old, a Londoner, a Jew, a divorcé, we don't need to write every detail of a person. His porn would be notable to the article however if there were new movies called "UKIP Over at Mine" or "Rough and Mark Reckless", but please don't endanger yourself by holding your breath... '''tAD''' (talk) 15:26, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Nonsense. He's also remarried and a father - just as irrelevant as being 63 etc. What I am at is relevant - his profession and source of wealth. If we don't say he is a pornographer we should not say he is proprietor of Express Newspapers!! Emeraude (talk) 15:33, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Find a reliable source mentioning him as a pornographer and a UKIP donor ensemble and I will bury the hatchet forever. The one in the article says nothing about porn, but simply mentions the prospect of his newspapers supporting UKIP before the GE. '''tAD''' (talk) 15:42, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi mate, how are you?

I've already contacted Matty about this page, the credit must go to you. You put a lot of effort into it, so it would be fair enough if it was your creation, not Eden's one. :) Cheers, MYS77 13:36, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Nah, I just improved it. You did created it from nothing, it's waaay more easy to just improve. Well, I asked Matty because an administrator can move the page history (make an adm move) to the actual one. Cheers, MYS77 13:49, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Sure :) Nice "teamwork". Happy week, MYS77 13:52, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
It is one of my dreams, work/live in England. But no, what attracted me to be a Pompey supporter was when I watched their 2–0 win over Tottenham in 2010 FA Cup. Even after discovering that the team was almost relegated, they played so well that I became a supporter. Same thing (after watching a La Liga game) happened with Almería... What I found strange is that this only happened with these two clubs (and Santos, of course, the only one I can watch from the stadium), others never got my interest despite playing superbly (like Barça in 11-12). Cheers, MYS77 14:06, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
The final was not good for Ballack, though, having his leg broken by Kevin-Prince. Nowadays, I have to be content with Pompey match highlights in their YouTube channel, as I can't find any links to matches online.
The News only celebrate because the team is naming legends as managers, thus being fighting against relegation more than for a play-off place. They have no experience in managing and the club can't go forward, despite having a lot of good youngsters, like Whatmough, Webster, Wallace and Butler. All of these kids are pretty good, but Awford is too unexperienced to guide the club. At least, they are now debt-free (that's something, considering the hell they've being through these last years).
I hope someday I can watch a game at Fratton, at least an official shirt I already have :) Cheers, MYS77 14:20, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Javi Guerra - Reply[edit]

With your source and this one ( "cedido" means "loaned"), he is definitely on loan. I watched an internet live report on the Copa del Rey (Levante-Málaga), and there it stated that Guerra was a new Málaga player, I jumped the gun without knowing any further details and inserted the details in box.

Apologies to WP, cheers to you -- (talk) 13:09, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

  • I also apologize to you and several users for wrongly writing (and insisting upon reversion) "top-divisioner" in several articles of players, honestly thought it was an English word (as a "player" is one who "plays", I thought a "top-divisioner" was a club that competed in the "top division"). Won't happen again, cheers -- (talk) 16:48, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

And today, of course I'm rooting for Atlético Madrid, it also has a Portuguese player no, Tiago Mendes (or does he deserve any less respect?), incredible the level of ass-kissing and adulation towards Ronaldo in my country, most important person in the world for them period (including "respected" news services), 30-minutes pieces on prime time dedicated to Mrs. Shayk just because she's his mate.

This never existed in the time of Luís Figo, who also was a world class player that won the Golden Ball and played for Real Madrid, don't know what is wrong with these people. Last week, Record (newspaper) wrote an article on the selfishness of Gareth Bale for not providing an assist to an unmarked Ronaldo in front of an RCD Espanyol open goal (here's a Portuguese lesson for you, never saw an article on Ronaldo equal selfishness (an average of 10 shots a game, give or take) or his attitude towards his teammates (NEVER celebrates a goal that's not his, when he does he's the last to arrive to the "mêlée", watch footage of Ramos' goal in the 2014 UEFA Champions League Final to see what I mean).

Ah, and of course, Lionel Messi (which I'm not saying is a saint and I don't idolize him, I don't idolize any sportsperson) is a mix between Attila and Adolf Hitler according to most of my countrymen, he rules Barcelona with an iron fist. This won't stop, I'm afraid, until (if) Ronaldo equals his Golden Balls total; and the sheep believe everything, regardless of age or "grey matter".

Enjoy the game, keep it up -- (talk) 17:57, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

"...Cristiano's vanity makes him more covered than other players?" Is that a reason to adulate someone? Oddly enough, it is, strange days my friend :( -- (talk) 19:03, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing that out, fixed, I hope ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:26, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

About Steven Defour, when do match officials/sporting entities see it fit that a player shows his discontentment against these ANIMALS? For kicking a ball after seeing his severed head on a banner, he was sent off, exactly what these ANIMALS wanted, I rate them like nothing more than pieces of human garbage (with apologies to garbage, recycling does wonders for 'ya), despicable... -- (talk) 00:28, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

  • Maybe the Standard ANIMALS are literate ones, wanting to show off their English skills at this all-important human event. I don't understand why on earth Adebayor would pull one like that (or Gary Neville back in the day), they should celebrate goals/wins with those that matter most, first teammates and staff, and then, when the smoke settles, family and friends, period! No parades, no TV appearances, no nothing, it's a job.

Spanish round-up: another display of "great" "sportsmanship" by Real Madrid's #7 (but according to the "levelled" Portuguese newscasts he has apologized, that's the most important, and always straight from his facebook, I meant "heart"!). I have been a little bit under the weather, so did not watch the game, today I read the match report and saw, eyes wide open, that Córdoba CF played with THREE national players. I'll never understand these "managers": "If we want to meet X/Y/Z goal, we better stack up our squad with foreigners", oh well... And don't get me started on the rich clubs, Real Madrid just bought a Norwegian lad that has just finished changing his diaper!

Have a happy week -- (talk) 01:27, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Nope, even though it's nowhere to be found in the Portuguese language (Portuguese/Portuguese that is!), the name "Diego" is quite common in Brazil. -- (talk) 15:24, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

  • Indeed, but he is a bully, a talented one but a bully, period! That is just my opinion -- (talk) 02:25, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

I tell you the truth, I don't know what on earth I am still doing here, since I can never live up to WP expectations (I am a positive editor, but I don't like much of the site's guidelines). You have a good night sleep, enjoy your Sunday -- (talk) 02:38, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello Almightey!

I saw that you mentioned me on the Did you know nominations for this article; what exactly do you mean with "crediting me"? I have read the glossary terms, but still can't work my head around about what the term means? Could you explain, as I'm not very familiar with the Did you know section. Thanks. Arbero (talk) 22:43, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Ah, I think I understand now. Have received some of these earlier, so I'm getting the hang of it. Arbero (talk) 22:58, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
Silly me, I shouldn't even have asked the question. But cheers though, I'll gladly accept another one. Anyway, I'm aware that Wikipedia is not a chat forum, but just out of curiosity – have you ever worked on other subjects (non-football related)? I have seen some of your edit history, and you seem to be a "footballholic" like myself, though I have also done work on film and music articles in the past and in the present. Arbero (talk) 23:11, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
That's a lot of projects there. I must say that is not bad for an editor who joined Wikipedia approximately three years ago. (CRwikiCA, another decent editor comes to mind). You have achieved more than I have during my six years here. I have been an editor here on this account since 2009 (I have had two other old accounts, but lost interest in them as you probably see if you click on my user page). As for some of my projects, I tried to promote the 1998 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup Final article to the Good Article status, but I was unfortunately unsuccessful due to a poor copyedit. I have been working on a list though (my objective is to get an Featured list); it concerns the Danish Superliga (I have not credited the article yet) and is basically a list of hat-tricks, similar to the Premier League, though a lack of references seems to stop me from reaching my objective. You may wonder why I chose Denmark, and not my own domestic league, Allsvenskan. Well, its because the former league (Danish Superliga) was founded in 1991, but Allsvenskan has existed since the 20s, more precisely 1924. Arbero (talk) 23:41, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
Also forgot to say that I have done work on video games articles as well. Arbero (talk) 23:46, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
Nice knowing you. Hopefully we can help each other out more often in the future. Arbero (talk) 04:13, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Yep, terribly sorry about that. Don't know what exactly I was thinking there; I'll be more cautious next time. Arbero (talk) 18:05, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

I did not delete it=-- this is not a reason for speedy deletion. It will almost certainly be taken to AfD, and I advise you to get substantial additional references, including those that might state that the event will have lasting significance. DGG ( talk ) 01:20, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
