If you would like to get in contact with me about the subject, would you mind to do that at your talk page? I've putted it on autoreload. I've never had an account and prefer to not register one at the moment. Sorry for possible inconvenience. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.110.27.137 (talk) 13:18, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

IP warning question

Hello, I'm not sure how to use this so you'll have to excuse me. Users have been claiming that I have been editing wikipedia pages, I have received messages like this several times however, I haven't vandalized, or even attempted to change anything on an article, and I do not know how to use wikipedia, and I am the only one that uses this computer. So, I don't know, perhaps this computer is hijacked or something. Anyway, sorry.

The most current message warning me to stop vandalizing was you, it referenced someone vandalizing the article, List of rivers by length. I'm sorry if this isn't the correct place to post this, I'm not sure how to use the wikipedia talk page, but I love this site. Anyway, goodbye sir. Also, I'm very confused, the news informing me that this article was vandalized was sent to me just today, yet on the List of rivers by length, it says I "vandalized" this article 06:07, 16 February 2008, I just received the warning today though. I did not, change, write, vandalize, edit, or write any wikipedia article any time during my life, I've received warnings like this before but I don't understand why. I don't understand this. I don't know where you're going to respond to me, but I hope I find the response. Thank you, bye. 71.133.125.170 (talk) 23:25, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

I have responded on your talk page: User talk:71.133.125.170. The Evil Spartan (talk) 17:49, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

The new algorithm isn't clear

It isn't clear what exact weights are older polls given. Please specify. Rami R 08:24, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

This was in response to a complaint I had on commons. It's a bit complex, and if it weren't housed on commons, I might consider it original research, but it is, so I'm not worried about that. It goes like this:
  1. Full weight is given to the most recent 3 polls.
  2. The algorithm checks if there were 86 polls in the past 15 days. If there were, it weights only these polls. For each day since the most recent poll, it will lose 1/15th of its weight. For example, if the most recent poll was August 27th, and there is a poll from August 15th, it will have only 1/5 (3/15) the weight.
  3. If there are not that many polls in the past 15 days, it does the same as above, but weights according to the past 30 days. In this case, the August 15th poll will have a weight of 3/5 (18/30). This second provision is because some states are less polled than others, and aren't able to evaluate trends as well.
I can provide the OpenOffice Calc document I use if you would like. Is this clear enough? The Evil Spartan (talk) 15:17, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Reasonably clear. 'though, this really should be written at the image description page. Otherwise you'll probably have users question your neutrality again. Rami R 15:28, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Sure; do you know if commons accepts OpenOffice documents? I really hate to have made it so complex, but the previous method of just throwing everything together was leaving the maps hopelessly out of date; the IP user on my commons talk page had that correct. The Evil Spartan (talk)
Sorry for not replying earlier, RL stuff came up. I don't know if commons accepts OpenOffice. You'll need to ask there. Rami R 13:05, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

The new poll projection table

I love the new table you created, but there are editors who have questions about how the data was compiled with citations to back it up. Can you add your input in Talk:Statewide opinion polling for the United States presidential election, 2008? Steelbeard1 (talk) 22:18, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Please include the old maps they are better than the 538 map. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.23.33.228 (talk) 18:03, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Arizona poll

You have marked the Zimmermann/Marketing Intelligence poll recently posted at Statewide opinion polling for the United States presidential election, 2008 as partisan, based − as it seems − on an article by the ”Arizona Daily Star“. However, the press release by the polling firms insists that “The survey was not commissioned by any political party or candidate.” and pollster.com describes the two pollsters as “non-partisan research and public relations firms”. I'm not sure which course to follow with this one, but I cannot see overwhelming proof of any bias. However, maybe we should just wait for the new Arizona poll by Rasmussen to be released soon. That should give us an accurate trend. FanofPolling (talk) 15:02, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

If you read the edit summary, I gave the reason: the poll was done by Democratic pollsters. The star specifically says "a poll commissioned by an organization affiliated with a specific candidate"; it exactly fits this definition. As such, you will notice fivethirtyeight did not mention it. The Evil Spartan (talk) 02:24, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
OK. FanofPolling (talk) 21:47, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Crystal clear, to me!

I see you have removed my explanation of the difference between a glass half full, or half empty. Citing it as "original research" It's hardly that ! You say you are interested in linguistics. Well, this is a prime example; if you use the French language to solve the question it becomes crystal clear, like the water in the glass !Kaienana (talk) 10:09, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

I do like linguistics; perhaps I was a bit quick to remove it. I was also concerned that the tone was a bit unprofessional sounding. Feel free to add something similar that would address any of these concerns! The Evil Spartan (talk) 16:38, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Statewide opinion polling for the United States presidential election, 2008/Archive

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Statewide opinion polling for the United States presidential election, 2008/Archive, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Improper archive in the mainspace.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Teen Spirit.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Teen Spirit.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Σxplicit 20:21, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Pittsburgh event for Wikipedia's tenth anniversary

Hi! Since you're a member of WikiProject Pittsburgh, I wanted to invite you to the Wikipedia Tenth Anniversary celebrations we're having in Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 15. During the daytime, we're going to be having a photo contribution drive where anyone can bring in their digital photos or prints and Wikipedians will teach people how to upload them and add them to articles, and maybe introduction to Wikipedia workshops as well. Then in the evening, we'll have fun at the Carson City Saloon. There will be free Wikipedia t-shirts and other goodies, as well. See the Pittsburgh meetup page for more details. I hope to see you there!--ragesoss (talk) 14:44, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Map request.

Hello The Evil Spartan,

Could you make some additional changes to File:European empires.png? Namely the following:

- Patagonia is indeed controlled by Europeanized countries (Argentina and Chile), but it wasn't a Spanish colony at any point in time.

- to depict the spheres of influence in Iran. Only a part in the north and a part in the southeast were under Russian and British influence respectively, not the entire country.

- to depict the spheres of influence in Thailand. The central part of the country remained outside the spheres of European influence, but the northwestern part and the Malay peninsula were under British influence, and the northeast under that of the French.

- part of Xinjiang was under Russian influence in addition to Mongolia and part of Manchuria.

- strongly disagree with the definition of Ottoman Turkey as "a European power". It controlled (and modern-day Turkey still does control) territory in Europe yes, but then so does Kazakhstan. It's hardly enough ground for calling either of them European countries. Aside from the city of Istanbul, the Ottoman power-centre was firmly located in Anatolia, and they themselves didn't even regard their country as being European.

- the summary needs a small change. Russian and Soviet-held Siberia and Central Asia weren't Russian colonies, but direct components of the Russian state.

- could you add Antarctica and the territorial claims of the Europeans in the region?

Thanks in advance.

Regards, --Morgan Hauser (talk) 05:56, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

TES hasn't edited for two years, but with the lack of a response, I'd be glad to pick up any requests you have. To address each one:
  • It looks like someone else mentioned Patagonia on the talk page.
  • Can I get a map or in-depth description of the European influence on Iran, so I can make this one equal?
  • Can I get a map or in-depth description of the European influence on Thailand?
  • Can I get a map or in-depth description of the Russian influence on Xinjiang?
  • The Ottomon/Russia parts are probably something to take to the talk page. FYI, I am probably going to move it to commons, along with the whole attribution history.
  • That's something else to take to the talk, as international law doesn't recognize any claims to territory below a certain latitudinal line. Magog the Ogre (talk) 20:08, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Ok, the relevant discussion and requests have been taken to User talk:Magog the Ogre and the file's discussion page.--Morgan Hauser (talk) 01:14, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh is rolling out some new features (see our discussions at WT:PITTSBURGH). We are also trying to determine how many members are active, and interested in contributing to Pittsburgh content or coming to our real life meetups to discuss Wikipedia in general. If you could go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh/Members and move your name from inactive to the active or semi-active group (depending on your interest in Pittsburgh issue and overall activity) groups, this would be great. Hopefully in a near future you'll also receive our first newsletter with various information on what we have been doing, and what useful tools are available. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 20:02, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
