Help, I'm being oppressed

You know Tide, you should really stop keeping people down, man. No wonder they retaliate! Justified violence! Drmies (talk) 03:54, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

That's funny, but not nearly as funny as this  :) Tiderolls 03:55, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Advice

What do you think abut this? I reverted it once, but not sure if doing it again :/ --Jargon ๏̯͡๏) 00:01, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

I personally wouldn't revert again without discussing it with the IP. I would've revrted once because the section is referenced. That they used an edit summary when they reverted you is encouraging but does not mean they are correct in their action. It is important that you do not engage in an edit war. I checked the IP's contribs briefly and it appears that they are not editing in bad faith. I'm not speaking as an expert, but I would definitely see what their reasoning is before reverting again. I hope that helps. See ya 'round Tiderolls 00:06, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
I have looked a bit closer at the article talk page and revision history of the article. It seems to be a contentious subject that is attracting nationalistic concerns that may or may not apply. If you are interested in the subject or knowledgable on Balkan history it may be an area for you to help out. It seems to me that it would require a good deal of time and effort, so if you decide to venture in I wish you luck :) Tiderolls 03:54, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Undid reversion

Hi, I undid your reversion. Changing "Millan received offer from a number of producers," to "Millan received offers from a number of producers," I think is entirely appropriate. Also "the nation" to "the USA" would seem to clarify meaning. Marj (talk) 01:20, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Marj. Good work. I don't remember ever seeing the versions in the diffs I just examined. I was watching recent changes and I'm guessing that huggle was displaying an article I wanted to edit while I was actually editing Dog Whisperer. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Recently, you caught and reverted some minor vandalism on my talk page. I much appreciate your efforts to help keep Wikipedia vandal-free, and I very much appreciate your actions in this matter, good sir. I tip my hat to you. MadManMarkAu (talk) 04:32, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

You're welcome, of course. I appreciate your letting me know you didn't mind me butting in. I'm sure you are capable of maintaining your own page, but I never know how often folks log on. You sent message to my user talk page:99.88.78.94 because I made unconstructive edit on I Know What You Did Last Summer. How's it unconstructive? I'm just talking about my feelings. I don't know if feeling's same thing as comment. I'm not saying actors, actresses, etc did bad job. Actors, actresses, producer, director, etc did a good job.

Thanks for coming here to discuss the situation. Wikipedia is not a forum. Whether one's edits praise or criticize is not important; content is added due to its notability and is to be supported by reliable sources. I hope that helps. Tiderolls 07:51, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Message

I don’t understand what your message meant. For the Wikipedia article called I Know What You Did Last Summer(film), I wrote Julie shouldn’t have distracted Ray when he fought Ben. Ben was bad because he killed innocent Elsa. Julie & Her friends didn’t mean to kill anyone. If Helen used microphone to inform fisherman’s behind Barry, then Barry wouldn’t have died. How’s that unconstructive? I felt like talking about the film. I’m not saying changes should be made to the film. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.88.78.94 (talk) 18:54, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

It's a wide gulf between pessimism and pragmatism :) Seriously, I appreciate your confidence. I still have a lot to learn. I'll get there someday...probably... Tiderolls 03:15, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
How do you have alot more to learn? You have over 100,000 edits damn it! You are the second best vandal fighter on this entire site behind J delanoy! And furthermore, you've been here for almost two years and I cannot find one instance where you messed up with huggle or any other tool. Once you become an admin, you'll be able to help this site out more by actually blocking those losers instead of just warning them. And furthermore, you are not just a huggler, you've gotten a DKY. You see, you have talent and the best way to give this site your all is by being a sysop. Face it, your a better editor than I can ever hope to be and you've never been blocked, sure you may get a few opposes for being just a vandal fighter but I promise you that you'll pass any RFA.--White Shadows you're breaking up 03:22, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for butting in That's what everyone said about The Thing That Should Not Be too, and in February his RfA was unsuccessful. I'd love to see Tide become an admin as well, but the community just doesn't want vandal-fighting-only admins right now. Eagles 24/7 (C) 03:32, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
It should be noted that I ran twice before that one... Tide hasn't ran at all yet. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 19:13, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
I don't think "the community" is so narrow in focus that they reject vandal-fighters out of hand. However, they do look for more; and I think they deserve more. If I do decide to accept an RfA nom, I want to be able to convey that I can offer more. That day may never come. I'm not really concentrating on it. Pardon me for boring you with this, but I'm able to do all I want here (presently) without admin tools. When that changes I'll come begging for a nomination. As for the J.Delanoy comparison, well...I dunno :) Tiderolls 03:42, 4 April 2010 (UTC)...that reference may have been a smidge too arcane...in my twisted universe I'm Dan the Man to J.delanoy's JFK
I must resort to jedi mind tricks now, "you will go up for an RFA" but seriously, I do think that you'll pass. However, since you see reluctant to belive that yourself and you have no need to become one in your opinion, I'll wait. When you are ready, let me know ASAP.--White Shadows you're breaking up 03:54, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for understanding :) Tiderolls 03:57, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

monobook

It took me a while, but I think I was able to isolate two "good" versions of the .css file I've been using, and have stored them at this page. Two versions because if you just change the background colors and nothing else, links start looking washed-out unless you also change their colors as well. This skin will also hide the floating Jimbo head that appears on some people's pages; if you prefer to leave it in just remove the line beginning with "krimpet-peeking-jimbo" and the two lines below it. Since I find this CSS stuff pretty confusing myself I'll keep watching this page in case you arent able to get the code I use to work. Soap 17:06, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Your code seems to have worked perfectly. I used the simpler version since I don't expect I'll have the need to tweak the code. Thanks for the help and quick response. See ya 'round Tiderolls 18:17, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

New headers

Thanks Tide, I like these headers. I "borrowed" them and hope I changed all occurrences of the username, but if you get an angry post from a vandal, it might have been directed at me. :) One question: do you know if I can change the background color of the boxes? I tried a style statement to change the colors to "orange" but it didn't work. See you on the History pages. Bento00 (talk) 22:04, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Your vandals, my vandals...meh...it's just static. There are no color options as these are standard templates. I wanted to standardize so I went with the standard template. If you want something different I would recommend asking at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). I'm sure someone there could answer your question. See ya 'round Tiderolls 00:06, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Good Work

That front page vandalism was atrocious. Good job getting rid of it. You beat me too it by about five seconds. We did the exact same thing fixing some vandalism on Henry Clay. Kind of a weird coincidence for the exact same thing to happen with the exact same person. Anyway, don't let me distract you from the real work. Good job. Maybe this will happen again some time. That would be really weird. In.Lumine.Tuo.Videbimus.Lumen 01:09, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Rollback?

Say do you think I have enough seniority to ask to be made rollbacker? It would let me use Huggle, which seems like a more elegant way of fighting vandalism. I'm using filtered recent changes now, which works, but it's a bit more labor intensive. What do you think? I don't want to bother if I need more experience. ScottyBerg (talk) 22:41, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I think you're ready, though I requested rollbacker when I passed 500 edits. You can file your request at WP:PERM/R and an administrator will shortly respond to your request. NERDYSCIENCEDUDE (✉ messagechanges) 22:51, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
I would second NSD's assessment. Some admins would probably like to see a bit more vandal reversions, but you are taking the time to leave talk page messages to those you revert (something I didn't do at the beginning) and you have proven (to me, at least) that you are trustworthy. I would leave you with one suggestion; some of your "substantive" edits are taking three, four or more attempts to complete. I would advise that you make more use of the "Show preview" button whenever possible. Don't get me wrong, it's a minor thing...no biggie...but, it makes a lot of difference when someone looks over your contributions. Take the plunge and good luck :) Tiderolls 22:56, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! Good advice from you both. You're right about the "preview" button. I am sloppy. ScottyBerg (talk) 23:27, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
Ha! How do you think I learned about Show preview? I don't even wanna think about how many edits I could've saved using that thing. Tiderolls 23:52, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Just so you know...

You won't be able to login to Huggle for a while, due to a recent change in the login system. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 01:48, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Hey Tide, I've been having some problems with this user on the Distrubia movie page. I noticed you had warned them in the past for their unconstructive edits and I need some help as to what I should do at this point. They keep expanding the plot summary beyond 1400 words and revert my edits without cause or comment. Thanks for your time! (Deftonesderrick 07:35, 8 April 2010 (UTC))

I'm gonna mention a couple of things up front as I'm pressed for time at the moment. I would point your attention here and here. You're probably experienced enough to be familiar with these, but I wanted to make sure. Don't take this message as a brush-off; I'll answer in more detail when I have more time. Regards Tiderolls 10:30, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Sorry! I'm just inexperienced with this kind of thing! Thanks for the help! (Deftonesderrick 16:40, 8 April 2010 (UTC))
No need for apology, I am inexperienced in the matter as well. I've briefly looked at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Films page and there seems to be detailed discussion regarding conventions of style. If you have an interest in editing film articles I would suggest that you start there. I believe that you will find much information that addresses your concerns; in addition, you might contact editors there that have encountered the difficulties you mention. These editors would be better equipped to offer advice on your best course of action. The anon IP's edits appear to be made in good faith even though, in my opinion, the edits lack a concise, encyclopedic style. The IP has ceased inserting commentary into the articles which is the reason I contacted them initially. I hope that you are interested in helping in this regard. It appears the copy editing of plot sections is an area that needs attention. See ya 'round Tiderolls 05:43, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Note about the warning to the Microsoft HealthVault vandal (2nd notice for Tide rolls)

It rewrote the article like an ad. Plus, I guess he's willing to sockpuppet too. Andewz111 (no 'r') (nudge me) 23:40, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

I suppose so. I think they will find the effort most unrewarding. Tiderolls 23:42, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

It is unclear as to why edits to this page are being reverted? I am updating factual information about the original topic in the article and am providing updated links to valid information. Please provide guidance.

My guidance is found on your user talk page. Thanks for your polite message. Tiderolls 23:57, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello.

I am a producer for the Health Solutions Group at Microsoft and Microsoft HealthVault is one of our products. We've been working on a refresh of the Microsoft HealthVault page and each time it gets published you revert it.

Can you please let me know what the issue is and why you are blocking our update? Feel free to contact me directly at jpost@microsoft.com.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Would it be possible for you to provide a diff of the "refresh" you are attempting? Looking at your contributions I do not see where you have edited the article (probably a good thing since you most likely are restricted by conflict of interest concerns) nor do I see where I've ever reverted edits you have made generally. Regards Tiderolls 00:36, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. I've asked the vendor company that is doing the work in sandbox to supply the diff for you. In terms of edits, I don't believe you've reverted edits made generally because I don't think this page has been edited in a long, very long time. The edits are a basic rewrite of most of the page content to reflect the product as it is today in 2010 vs. when most of this content was added to Wikipedia in 2007. For a quick verification, just check out the screenshot that's in the reverted version with the copyright of 2007 with the look of the www.healthvault.com home page today in 2010. Thanks for your help.

Yeah...I'm not gonna be of much assistance without knowing exactly what edits of mine are concerning to you. When I get that info I'll be able to comment. Thanks Tiderolls 01:02, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

I never mentioned vandalism. Now, you have proven to me that either you do not want to understand how your editing is disruptive or you understand and don't care. Many editors have offered you help and guidance and all you do is protest and continue your edits against the guidelines. I will not be responding to you further. Tiderolls 01:45, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
