Did Eddington really notice a discrepancy in solar mass?[edit]

Hi Timpo,

I noticed that at 13:42 hours on the 30th of July 2013 you added to the Fusion power page the statement: "However, [Arthur Eddington] detected a small (0.7%) difference in the actual solar mass compared to its theoretical value,..."
Could you supply a reference for that statement? - Fartherred (talk) 02:34, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
Hi Fartherred,
I heard it on a BBC science radio program which is no longer available. I have not been able to find a 'respectable journal' ref, but generally BBC material is well researched and a Duckduckgo search seems to confirm its validity. Are there any astrophysicists editing who could help?Timpo (talk) 08:02, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Outline of crime[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Outline of crime. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Crime. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Crime – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:32, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

Ways to improve Grappamiel[edit]

Hi, I'm Cnilep. Timpo, thanks for creating Grappamiel!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. The citation style is unclear because there are no footnotes. Also, it is probably unnecessary to use headings on such a short page.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. Cnilep (talk) 02:34, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

  • This is a simple 'lift' from Eswiki following a chat with a 'camereo' from Uruguay - hence paragraphs (less makers publicity which seems inappropriate).I did not find any reliable English language sources, so the lifted refs are also a bit unsatisfactory for anglophones- Thanks for fixing the columns - the link to Tablao got lost so I fixed that, regards Timpo (talk) 06:35, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
The link to Tablados (a parish in Austurias) was, I assume, incorrect. Is Tablao (an establishment featuring Flamenco) correct? The article does not mention Uruguay, and Grappamiel seems to be referring to dancers, not dancing establishments. Cnilep (talk) 08:31, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
I checked the link, and it leads to the Flamenco dance site 'floorboards', a part of the Hispanohablante culture of informal es:Chiringuito bars that pop up in summer (maybe if I lift that article too we could expand the informal culture coverage - who knows?).
Unlike UK/US practice, Spanish people do not distinguish, but rather incorporates alcohol consumption as part of cultural activities, so that certain drinks are associated with particular activities. The idea of 'port with cheese', or the 'six o'clock swill' or excluding children from bars are all ideas which we Anglophones tend to take as established, but which many Spanish folk tend to consider most bizarre, if not downright objectionable. As far as I can tell Grappamiel is only brewed in Uruguay, and mostly consumed there but I can't be sure, so I used 'weasel-words' 'popular in Uruguay' (first line) Timpo (talk) 06:33, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
