Stone Bridge (Rhode Island)[edit]

You've left behind a number of artifacts in this article. I want to give you a chance to fix them instead of reverting you. Also, placing your reference bare naked the way you have will not do. Please look at WP:CITE for how this is done here. Thanks. - Denimadept (talk) 23:31, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is our first attempt to clarify the mistake that the Stone Bridge was destroyed in hurricane Carol. I was a resident of Tiverton and my husband to be resided in Portsmouth at the time and we remember the closing ,walking across the bridge while repairs were being made and the reopening . We were married in Aug,1955 and he drove across the bridge to come to Tiverton for the wedding. I hope we have answered your questions and put it in the correct format. Please let us know if more has to be done. (TivHistorians (talk) 01:39, 14 June 2012 (UTC))[reply]
I didn't ask any questions. Let's see if I can clarify this. First, compare Stone Bridge (Rhode Island)#References with San Francisco Bay Bridge#Notes. Inline citations are preferred to the point of being required, so people know what the citations refer to. One way it's done is to include the appropriate {{cite}} template just after the text it refers to, bracketed by <ref></ref> tags, like so:

The span was closed to marine traffic after the hurricane.[1]

which will make the citation show up like

  1. ^ "OHMIGAWD! The Bridge Was Damaged!". Fall River Herald News. Fairport, New York: Gatehouse Media. January 13, 1955. p. 1. {{cite news}}: Cite has empty unknown parameters: |pmd=, |deadurl=, and |trans_title= (help)

Edit this Talk page to see what I actually entered. (also, Gatehouse Media is the current publisher of the Fall River Herald, and they're not in Fall River. I don't know if that's preferred over the publisher in 1955.) Note that you don't have to list the empty template elements. If you don't have something to enter for them, they can be deleted. In this case, title, publisher or work, and date are required. See {{Cite news}} for details. You can find these citation templates by clicking the "cite" menu at the top of the edit box and selecting one of the options, then filling out the form it gives you.

I realize this is your first effort, which is why I'm explaining this. There's an awful lot of details involved on Wikipedia, and you're not expected to know everything right up front. If you were, I'd not be here in the first place because I'd have been booted a long time ago by Wikipedia nazis, or I would have reverted you. Note that I'm just an editor like you, but I've been doing this for five years, so I have a bit of experience at it. Also, I lived in Somerset from 1977 to 1984, then Fall River from 1984-1987 and 1992-1993, so I know the area a bit. Haven't been back since August 2010 when I took two of the pictures at the new bridge. I've also taken other pictures of bridges in the area, though not all the ones on this site. By the way, if anyone hassles you for being a newbie, point them at WP:BITE. Anyway, perhaps the following might also help:

Denimadept, We are completely overwhelmed and don't think we can go on. We went to do some more research this AM. At our age, and we are well advanced, we just don't have enough computer savvy. We would appreciate it if you would take over using the information we have presented and do it the correct format. The publisher in 1955 was Edward J. Delaney. Thank you. (TivHistorians (talk) 17:36, 14 June 2012 (UTC))[reply]

I was afraid of that. I'm sorry. I'll attempt to do as you suggest. - Denimadept (talk) 18:19, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
One question: do you have the titles for those articles, please? Also, maybe an author name? - Denimadept (talk) 18:49, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'm a bit confused. We've got references 1 through 4, where reference 5 was already there. If I don't have it right, please let me know. I know at least one of those isn't right, as reference 1 has no title. Please reply to me here, as your regular User page is not for other editors to modify. - Denimadept (talk) 19:04, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
