GA Review

Hey mate, well done of the GA for Rogue Squadron!

Have a kitten for your work

Could you do me a favour though, I'm currently waiting for a GA reviewer for Glengoyne Distillery so if you've a chance you think you could take that on?

Much appreciated if you do!

"Nice job, SkywalkerTorsodog. I'm beginning to see why they say you're the best." :) --Kasan Mooran odd name 18:00, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, I forgot it was in my navbox watch-thing. Guess I wasn't watching it after all! --an odd name 20:28, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
The criteria are insane (as short as they look), others' reviews can be brutal, and the "MOS-ter" (as I'll call it, at least) is a huge dragon to slay, but I'll see what things I can fix as it goes along.
I'm most concerned about the Japan-gamecharts list you added, as the site has been questioned and removed during FAC (in e.g. Echoes and Mario & Sonic—check for "Issues resolved, Ealdgyth" on that page), and it might be hard to replace it with Famitsu's actual data. They might still complain about the images (Wikipedians take "The Free Encyclopedia" very seriously, as they should), but since those are easily justified or removed that's not a FAC-killer to me. That's what I see for now. --an odd name 21:19, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Ya, I'm somewhat aware of how ridiculous FAC can become. I've put up one article up for FAC before (Cloud Gate), and that turned into a circus (mostly because of images). I think the images in Star Wars: Rogue Squadron are now pretty justified. The only one that might have a problem is the Naboo fighter, which I don't have a huge problem cutting anyways. Also, I've been worried about the sales sources for awhile now. I've been keeping them in since I haven't gotten any remarks on them yet, plus I believe I found the sources in other FAs already. Requirements may have changed since their passing, however. Do you know what sales sites are considered reliable, if any? If a reliable site with definitive sales figures can't be found, I don't think the article would be hurt much by removing the specific numbers all together anyways. --TorsodogTalk 21:32, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
I think we can justify the one mention of MobyGames as long as the credits match and are uncontroversial (and if not, we can just cite the game itself or check IGN or whatever). I've been looking over another article on FAC, but that one seems short enough and with few enough issues that I could help with this one too. RS has taught me at least two things:
  • Don't stop trying to accomplish a task, no matter how crazy it seems.
  • Deal with missile turrets very, very quickly.
Rogue Squadron had more issues at GA than I thought it would, but it looks ready to me now. Go for it. --an odd name 23:33, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: Quick look over

It looks pretty good overall. Perhaps move "Unlockable content" to "Gameplay", though. And, I don't know if Neoseeker is reliable or not. Gary King (talk) 20:29, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

I think we can use IGN ([1], [2]) for the release dates that use Neoseeker at the moment. GameSpot's dates ([3], [4]) look too early, as the site's corresponding reviews were both done in December after the IGN/Neoseeker dates.
Since I also can't (yet) find any awards or recognition to support the reliability of Neo, I guess I'll replace the refs with IGN ones later. Remind me after two days if I don't. --an odd name 21:56, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
I've replaced Neo. --an odd name 09:37, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

First, my apologies. I've been meaning to respond for a while, but it had always been forgotten until today. Just had a few things I wanted to point out.

  • References look better, but there are still a couple of issues. Italics should only be used for printed publications, not in every reference. Also, the .com should be removed in a few of them. I left a sample edit to show you what tweaks are needed. Source reliability looks better than at PR, but mopupduty.com (ref 10) probably isn't considered a reliable source.
  • Still a few copy-edit needs. From History: "and after compiling a 4-1 (change hyphen to en dash) mark with eight saves the Murakami was sent back to Japan to play for the Hawks." Remove "the" before Murakami, at the very least. Check the dates for the Hideo Nomo part, because something isn't adding up. It says the retirement occurred in 1995, and he signed with the Dodgers the next year. This can't be right, because he was the Rookie of the Year in 1995. It would be a good idea to have someone new to the article take a look at it before any FAC nomination.

Sorry that I took so long, but I figured better late than never. Not sure if you're busy with other articles, but hopefully these comments help with this one. Giants2008 (17-14) 19:54, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Don't be too hasty

Regarding File:Rogue Squadron gameplay.JPG in that FAC, I'd suggest perhaps looking for another image to replace it that shows some factor covered by critical commentary (enemy AI and dogfights, graphics, point of commentary in development, or something along those lines), but still clearly showing typical gameplay, and shoving it up with a helpful caption. An image of how the game is normally played is in my mind an important factor for an article such as this, even if it has to included with some other element to satisfy the NFCC. This, I'm sure you agree, isn't that great for showing gameplay; the game's not even usually played in the cockpit mode and it doesn't show any real activity. -- Sabre (talk) 13:11, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Millennium Park map

Thanks, believe it or not I did most of it in MS Paint and also used Paint.NET a few times. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:16, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

To give a bit more detail, I used a free aerial photo to get the park outlines (I put a grid of squares over the photo and then knew what points were needed for the outlines in most cases). I also looked at the official map, the Google Earth aerial photo, and the various photos of the park on Commons - yours of the bridgway to the Art Institute was very helpful. {{WikiProject Japan}} attention parameter

This parameter doesn't seem to be working properly anymore (it worked fine when I was testing things). Can you look at the template and see if you can figure out why it isn't working? ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:24, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

No infoboxes for photographers, please

Prompted by this edit: I don't remember ever having seen an biographical infobox that improved an article on a photographer, there has been no enthusiasm for them at the (admittedly underpopulated and largely dormant) "WikiProject History of photography", and they are widely despised by people working on articles about artists. Pierre Rossier and Adolfo Farsari are two recent featured articles on Japan-related photographers that do not have infoboxes; the issue never came up on the talk page of the former, whereas addition was proposed (with no reasoning) on the talk page of the latter but rejected by the primary author (Pinkville). -- Hoary (talk) 02:33, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Alright. I'm going through all of the unassessed WPJ articles and assessing them, and as I browse each article, I try to add any other parameters to the template that I think would be helpful to the article. Unfortunately, since I have literally gone through +1,000 articles thus far, I don't spend a ton of time on each article. I will not add the infobox parameter to the template for photographers anymore. Thanks for giving me a heads up! --TorsodogTalk 02:42, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

That's very reasonable.

I'd have to agree that Watanabe is probably of only specialist interest to those who are interested in Japan, and thus that it's OK to mark his importance as "low". However, this is a minefield: there can hardly be anything better calculated to rub up a WP editor the wrong way than to have the cheesecake starlet (etc) of his dreams, the one whose article he perhaps laboriously if not always accurately translated from a very dubious Japanese-language original, marked as of "low" importance. Watch your back!

If I see another of your infobox-neededs in an article on a photographer, I'll simply remove it without a fresh moan to you. -- Hoary (talk) 03:25, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

I know what you mean. So far I don't think I've missed the mark too terribly when rating an article's importance. However, if I do, and an editor rightfully becomes agitated by my ignorant rating, at least I've started a dialog so the article can get the proper rating, right?! Maybe I should prepare an apology statement in my sandbox just to be ready. HA. Anyways, thanks again and see you 'round the wiki. --TorsodogTalk 03:35, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Kasuga ryūjin

Hi, Torsodog. Thank you for your efforts in making the rounds and assessing Japan-related articles. I noticed that you assessed the article I wrote on the Noh play "Kasuga ryūjin" as a Stub today. I have already included an infobox, plot summary, and some background on the origins of the play, basis in history, and historical figures featured. Admittedly, I have only one source to consult (I also have a copy of the play in the original Japanese, but there is very little written about the play outside of the text itself, which is far too calligraphic and old for me to read)...

Do you have any suggestions for how I might expand this article? Do you find any particular elements lacking?

Thank you. LordAmeth (talk) 16:54, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps I was a bit hasty rating this a stub class. The article does contain a lot of great info and is formatted nicely. I think what first threw me off was the lack of sources and what looked to be simply a plot summery. After browsing the article, I wanted to know more about the play, but since I am not very familiar with Noh, I didn't know exactly WHAT I wanted to know. I understand sources for this type of article are probably scarce, however. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful with the article's expansion! --TorsodogTalk 19:40, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
Not at all. I didn't mean to pressure you into changing your assessment... As I have that original copy of the play, I'm all the more interested in it, and am hoping to come across more info on it at some point. I'm keeping my eyes open. Thanks! LordAmeth (talk) 21:48, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I'll be pleased to do this, but it might be a few days before I can start. I see that the article recently had an extensive peer review; can I asume that the various prose points raised there have all been addressed? Also, I'd better make it clear that I don't know anything about baseball or how it works, so I may have to ask you what some sentences mean before I can say whether they are appropriately worded.
