FL vs Fla[edit]

Twalls, while "Fla" is a correct abbreviation of "Florida" and I see no need to revert your revision, I wouldn't agree that "Fla" is the correct abbreviation of "Florida." "FL" is the standard abbreviation used by the US Postal Service, and as such is used just as commonly (or more commonly than) "Fla." Both are standard acceptable usage. Hello, Buddhagazelle. Thanks for your comment. According to the AP stylebook and the Chicago Manual of style, traditional state abbreviations should be used in text, not the postal ones. Those are for addressing postcards and letters, and for various computer programs. The USPS even makes the distinction, as I've even more than one modern Post Office in Florida with "City name, Fla." written on the outside of the building. See you around. Hm. I can't find anything in Wikipedia:Manual of Style that refers to this issue. Only here: Wikipedia:Manual of Style (abbreviations)#Things to avoid, that one should spell out the name of a state in the article rather than abbreviating it. So as the Wikipedia Manual of Style doesn't prefer one system of abbreviation over another (Wikipedia does not adhere to Chicago, AP, or any other external stylebook), I'd be inclined to maintain that both versions are acceptable. Models of Migration to the New World[edit]

Dear Twalls: I am glad you found the points I made of interest - but I am a bit puzzled about the mention of a "copper boat". I did mention that the Tlingit people say they originally came from Copper River - but not in a copper boat. They did, however, gather "native copper" and fashion it into big plaques that were often painted and given away at potlatches. Warning vandals[edit]

Hello Twalls.
I noticed that you revert a good amount of vandalism. Thank you for helping keep Wikipedia the best encyclopedia in the world!
However, I have noticed that you do not always leave warnings on the vandals talk pages. You should always leave an appropriate warning after reverting vandalism. (The full list of talk page warnings may be found here, along with some suggestions and guidelines for using them.)
Be sure to leave the correct level of warning, and if the vandal has been warned four times in the last month, (Check the vandal's talk page history. Some vandals remove warnings from their talk pages.) report the vandal by going to this page and following the instructions.

Well, the warnings are for the vandals to read, but they are also used by admins to decide whether or not to block the IP or user. A vandal has to be warned at least once before they can be blocked.

Also, if you want to fight vandalism with an automatic tool, an excellent choice would be Twinkle. This tool can revert vandalism, warn vandals, file reports on WP:AIV, tag pages for speedy deletion, and do many other tasks automatically. Wahhabism[edit]

I noticed your interest in the Wahhabism article on the talk page. I was wondering if you could "referee" things over there. There is a specific editor whom i've interacted with over the past few months and who has become more and more belligerent over editing disputes. I'm hoping a third party might help things from getting out of hand, as i'm getting a bit tired of the constant personal attacks over simple editing disputes. Any help would be much appreciated. Clovis Solutrean hypothesis[edit]

I am new to this site and have not done that much editing. I came across a article backed by the University of Texas Austin that I would like to include in Solutrean hypothesis but would like to get your opinion if it should be included and where? I am going to take some quotes from this article and provide the link so you may read the whole thing if you wish on a skull that was found near Mexico City in 1959. I think this is worth adding to the Solutrean hypothesis as it adds more evidence to this hypothesis. "However, the most intriguing aspect of the skull is that it is long and narrow and typically Caucasian in appearance, like the heads of white, western Europeans today. Modern-day native Americans, however, have short, wide skulls that are typical of their Mongoloid ancestors who are known to have crossed into America from Asia on an ice-age land bridge that had formed across the Bering Strait.

The extreme age of Peñon woman suggests two scenarios. Either there was a much earlier migration of Caucasian-like people with long, narrow skulls across the Bering Strait and that these people were later replaced by a subsequent migration of Mongoloid people. Alternatively, and more controversially, a group of Stone Age people from Europe made the perilous sea journey across the Atlantic Ocean many thousands of years before Columbus or the Vikings."

"Silvia Gonzalez, a Mexican-born archaeologist working at John Moores University and the leader of the research team, accepted yesterday that her discovery lends weight to the highly contentious idea that the first Americans may have actually been Europeans. Hello, and welcome! Well, I am familiar with the articles hosted on that course materials page. Although they are certainly part of a larger discussion on migration to the Americas (see Models of migration to the New World), I'm not sure the Solutrean hypothesis article would be improved by incorporating the material there, because it is chiefly concerned with the hypothesis by Stanford and Bradley and their predecessors that draws upon similarities in the tool complexes as well as a description of a hypothetical transatlantic route. Peñon woman, Kennewick man and Luzia certainly open up some larger questions, but I don't see that a direct connection to the Solutrean hypothesis itself has been established. It is probably best to keep a sharper focus and stick to primary sources or as close as possible. Of course, that doesn't preclude new discoveries supporting the hypothesis being added in the future. No, you are referring to the US Postal abbreviations. The traditional abbreviation for Florida is Fla., and according to AP Stylebook and other manuals of style, Fla. is the correct one to use in text (i.e. when not addressing a postcard or letter, or a database which uses two-letter codes). Marking edits as minor[edit]

A minor edit shouldn't add content, and you are adding content but marking edits as minor. Basically I should be able to ignore minor edits, assuming they are formatting, spelling, improving a citation, etc. Could you please be more careful? Thanks. Introduction to contentious topics[edit]
