List of Stargate Universe episodes[edit]

I've just posted the following at Talk:List of Stargate Universe episodes#???:

It really is far too early to consider splitting the article at this point, especially as we're only half way through season 1 and there aren't even any episode summaries for some of the already aired episodes. Splitting one short article into two shorter ones just makes no sense. Most episode lists aren't split until there are at least two or three seasons. Some, like List of Scrubs episodes and List of MythBusters episodes aren't split until much later (9 seasons/116kB and 7 seasons/75kB respectively). WP:SIZERULE recommends splitting articles at around 60-100kB of readable prose. I find that splitting at 100kB total size is often more practical but, at only 35kB we're nowhere near that yet.
I'll add that when splitting articles such as this, you should get the season article correct before you delete content from the main article. Don't delete content from the main article until the season article is ready, and clearly it is not. --AussieLegend (talk) 09:03, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Show by date[edit]

Hello, Vilnisr. You have new messages at Jimp's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 20:03, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
Regarding {{show by date}}, not sure when I'll get to work on adding another parameter. But in the meantime you should be able to get the effect by "nesting" the template, to show a particular text for only one date (or perhaps for only a range of dates):
{{show by date|2010|04|25|Today is before 25 April 2010|{{show by date|2010|04|26|Today is exactly 25 April 2010|Today is after 25 April 2010}}}}
results in
Today is after 25 April 2010
The trick is to start with an instance of the target date, then in the "after" parameter, use another {{show by date}} to select between the target date and the after date. However, concur that an exact-date parameter would be a good extension, but in a way which doesn't disrupt the existing parameter order (might have to be a named parameter such as "showondate="). Hope this helps. Dl2000 (talk) 20:10, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

This picture looked great in the userbox. Could you try re-uploading it under non free logos with a note that you created it. Thanks --Alpha Quadrant (talk) 4:07 pm, Today (UTC−5)

only free images can be used un userbox, i'm afraid they will not allow to use it that wayVilnisr (talk) 14:36, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Deletion nomination of Template:Show by date2[edit]

blanked page

Hi Vilnisr, this is a message from an automated bot, regarding Template:Show by date2. You blanked the page and, since you are its sole author, FrescoBot has interpreted it as a request for deletion of the page and asked administrators to satisfy the requests per speedy deletion criterion G7. Next time you want a page that you've created deleted, you can explicitly request the deletion by inserting the text {{db-author}}. If you didn't want the page deleted, please remove the {{db-author}} tag from the page and undo your blanking or put some content in the page. Admins are able to recover deleted pages. Please do not contact the bot operator for issues not related with bot's behaviour. To opt out of these bot messages, add {{bots|deny=FrescoBot}} somewhere on your talk page. -- FrescoBot (msg) 09:00, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

Hey you edited (or at the very least joined) my stargate wiki. Just letting you know, if you didn't that it moved to an independent server http://stargate-wiki.org/ and i was wondering if you wanted to join and edit. I could use more new users to help drive up edits and to shove in teh face of vandals. Let me know (as account creation on the wiki is disabled for now) - Escyos — Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.203.223.101 (talk) 03:06, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Yes, i could do that! Vilnisr T | C 08:56, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Possibly unfree File:Star Trek TNG logo.svg[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Star Trek TNG logo.svg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Fru1tbat (talk) 16:58, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Star Trek moves[edit]

I have reverted all your changes to Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Insurrection. Unlike Generations, these two films were marketed with the colon, and so moving them would be improper; secondly, cut-and-paste moves are prohibited due to Wikipedia's content licensing policies; see WP:MOVE for instructions on how to properly do one in the future. Thanks, Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 14:52, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Not historically; the StarTrek.com shorthand isn't even used in the majority of its uses (http://www.startrek.com/database_article/star-trek-first-contact). Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 16:16, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Jun natsukawa.jpeg[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

Thanks for uploading File:Jun natsukawa.jpeg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 22:23, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Latvian help needed[edit]

Hello Vilnisr, I'm contacting you because we need some Latvian translators to help with the deployment of the new VisualEditor on lv.wikipedia. There are help pages, user guides, and description pages that need translating, as well as the interface itself. The translating work is going on over on MediaWiki: Translation Central. I also need help with a personal message for the Latvian Wikipedians. If you are able to help in any way, either reply here, or head over to TranslationCentral. Thanks for your time, PEarley (WMF) (talk) 18:18, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Sure, just tell me what you want to add in the message and i will translate it, i also will help with visualeditor as soon as i have free time. Vilnisr T | C 18:57, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
Excellent, Vilnisr. I post my message text here this weekend. Thanks for your help, PEarley (WMF) (talk) 19:21, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Message:

"Hello Latvian Wikipedia editors from the Wikimedia Foundation. As some of you already know, the new VisualEditor (VE) is coming soon to all Wikipedias. The current date for lv.Wikipedia to have this feature enabled is not set, but should happen soon. The new editor will be offered alongside the wikitext editing interface.
We are looking for feedback on the new system, and would like to solve any problems that may be specific to lv.wikipedia before the deployment. If you would like to try out the new editor before then, go to "Preferences", "Edit Page" and "Enable VisualEditor" at the bottom. Save your changes, and VE should be available. We are looking for problems and ideas for improvement. Please leave your feedback at my talk page [LINK] or at MediaWiki here. We also need volunteers for translating VE documents, to help with this, go to here. Thank you, (polite Latvian goodbye?)"

Thanks so much for helping with this, Vilnisr. PEarley (WMF) (talk) 17:22, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

"Sveiciens visiem Latvijas Vikipēdijas veidotājiem no Wikimedia Foundation.

Update[edit]

Vilnisr, we have finally set a date to rollout VE for the Latvian wikipedia, September 24th. Would you be able to translate an additional message for me? Regards, PEarley (WMF) (talk) 21:30, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

Sure Vilnisr T | C 06:54, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
You are a saint! Here is the message, sorry about length. Translation need not be perfect, just enough to get the point across. Thanks again, PEarley (WMF) (talk) 16:16, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
MESSAGE BEGINS
Greetings from the Wikimedia Foundation, Latvian Wikipedia editors. I am posting to let you know about the VisualEditor (VE) editing interface. It is a new, visual way to edit Wikipedia. We would like to deploy VisualEditor on this Wikipedia soon, and we would like to get editors' opinions on the new platform.
To test VisualEditor, you can enable it by going to (I'll figure this part out - P.E.). After doing this, you will see two options for editing an article. We welcome your feedback, and would like to know about any problems or "bugs" experienced on lv.wiki. It is also important that VisualEditor's buttons and labels are translated into Latvian, along with several important help documents. If you have English skills, you can help out at Translatewiki.net and VisualEditor's TranslationCentral on mediawiki.org. You must have an account on Translatewiki.net to translate.
We expect to enable VisualEditor here on Tuesday, 24 September unless there any critical bugs with your particular Wikipedia that you find during testing. Enabling VisualEditor here for everyone will help the software to be developed and improved to meet the needs of all users. After the rollout the new editor will be displayed side-by-side with the button to edit using wikitext. Once VisualEditor is enabled you will have the option to disable it in your preferences so that you will no longer see it while it is in beta testing. We hope that you do not chose to do that because it would limit the opportunities to find out how we can make VisualEditor better for the Latvian Wikipedia. The option to edit using wikitext will not be going away. Thank you for your comments, and happy editing,
