Copyright problem: Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Multiple copyright problems[edit]

It appears you have been copy-pasting information from copyrighted websites into Wikipedia. I have rolled back another violation at Pontifical Council for the Laity. As you can see, I've have also placed tags on Roman Catholicism in the Bahamas, Roman Catholicism in Haiti, Institutions connected with the Holy See and Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. It is not permissible to take other people's writing and place it on Wikipedia without their expressed written consent to give up all their rights. Infringement of another's copyright is taken very seriously. Please read WP:Copyright violations for further info about this. If you have copy-pasted other info, please remove it or rewrite it using your own wording. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Regards. CactusWriter | needles 10:59, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your statement concerning the public domain of Vatican writings may have merit. At the moment, however, I am uncertain. I think it will depend on whether these are works of the Holy See rather than the Vatican State. Their website seems to indicate ownership of all copyrights. I'll ask for some clarification of this from the Wikipedia copyright experts. CactusWriter | needles 12:58, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problems[edit]

The articles have been blanked again pending resolution of the matter. Please do not restore the text before verification has been supplied that this material is public domain. See Talk:Institutions connected with the Holy See for response to your comments and please contribute any additional information you may have there. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:32, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification[edit]

Hi, Willuconquer. The Vatican website holds copyright to all their information, so those additions you made needed to be deleted from the three articles. The good news is that the copy-pastes on the Roman Catholicism in the Bahamas and Roman Catholicism in Haiti come from the 1913 Catholic Encyclopedia which is in the public domain. I've removed the templates from your talk page and an administrator has removed them from the articles. (You are, of course, free to remove the other ones here as you wish). Please remember to add references to the sections you copied, and place this {{catholic}} template at the bottom of the page which will note there is info in the article from the 1913 Catholic Encyclopedia. As far as copy-pasting is concerned, even if it is public domain, it is frowned upon per WP:Plagiarism guidelines. It is always best to use your own words. As well, the Catholic Encyclopedia is written from a Catholic viewpoint and the information can require alteration to provide a neutral POV. If you have further questions, feel free to ask. Good luck.CactusWriter | needles 12:55, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Human rights in Argentina requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello Willuconquer, I have moved the article you created to draft so you can improve it as it is not yet ready for mainspace but the subject looks like it could be notable. The specific problem was that the youtube source doesn't appear to be from a reliable channel and as such is not acceptable as a reference, two other sources appear to be dead already, other references do not seem to be specifically about the subject. The inline citations should be more specific and verify the content that it is specifically cited for. After you make improvements or if you disagree that there is a problem, you can submit it (using the button at the bottom of the AFC template that I've added to the top of the draft) and someone else will have a look. If you move it back to mainspace without going through the process, and if I'm right, it might be nominated for deletion by another new page reviewer. Regards! Violon Sneha moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Violon Sneha, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Copying within Wikipedia[edit]

Hi. I've noticed that you've sometimes used text from other existing articles when creating new pages. When this is done, attribution to the source articles must be made to respect the Creative Commons licensing requirements. Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from one or more pages into another page. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Paul_012 (talk) 14:10, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edit reversion[edit]

In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. S Philbrick(Talk) 16:35, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Copying licensed material requires attribution[edit]

Hi. I see in a recent addition to Paññāsa Jātaka you included material from a webpage that is available under a compatible Creative Commons Licence. That's okay, but you have to give attribution so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. It's also required under the terms of the license. I've added the attribution for this particular instance. Please make sure that you follow this licensing requirement when copying from compatibly-licensed material in the future. — Diannaa (talk) 14:45, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

April 2022[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Fall of Angkor. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Blocked for copyright violations[edit]

Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing certain namespaces ((Article) and Draft) because of copyright violations in that area.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 17:35, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Today I noticed your creation of Battle of Pailin, which was copied from at least 15 of the cited sources. I deleted it as a copyright violation; you cannot copy from your sources, all text you add to Wikipedia must be written in your own words. You have received several warnings for copyright violations previously going back to 2009; it seems like you do not understand that you cannot copy from sources, so I have to block you. If you want to be unblocked, you must commit to no long copying from sources and demonstrate a better understanding of copyright. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 17:43, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there Moneytrees! Thank you for your vigilance. I share your concern and try my best to stick to the rules and practises of Wikipedia in that field. I think you'll appreciate the work invested into creating such pages, that I am creating about Cambodia every day, and sometimes, the drafts I keep I synthetize too quickly I confess not editing original materials that I would originally have planned to integrate as references rather than full text. I wonder if you could tell me how better to appreciate the length of quotes so that it qualifies as "no long copying from sources"? I hope you can help me get back to work promptly. Thanks for your help and understanding. Willuconquer (talk) 18:15, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the work in areas that need more coverage and hope you will continue to do so. The problem isn't with quotes however, it's that you copied large amount of content from your sources without quoting them or anything. The content you pasted in was presented as text in the article, as if it had been written for the article instead of copied from sources. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 18:28, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Moneytrees Alright, that happens as a involuntary mistake on my part on a rather long article and I would be happy to amend it. Rather than deleting the article in bulk, and blocking without a chance to amend it, would it be possible to show the lines missing references or context or copying too heavily on unreferenced sources? thanks. Willuconquer (talk) 23:22, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If I understand what you are asking, there was no issue with missing references or anything like that; the problem was that you copied content from other sources into the article you were working on. Even if you cite the source you are copying from, it is still a copyright violation. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 01:15, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Moneytrees I am ready to improve on that, avoiding the opposite flaw of original research, and knowing that the topics on which I am writing are also topics for which people have faced backlash here in Cambodia. How do we go forward? is there anyway to look back at the article and fix the incriminating passages ? Willuconquer (talk) 01:20, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Restoring copyright violations isn't allowed, but I could point you towards a report made by a bot that brought the article to my attention. Click on "iThenticate report" to see the overlap between the sources and your article. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 01:36, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That was helpful. I had not realized how large the copy-paste from the Human Rights Watch report was. Again, it is also a way of keeping myself safe in the current political situation but I understand I need to amend. Apart from that, don't you think the 30+ references quoted are within reasonable length? What's more, and that's my fault (I should have drafted it better before posting it), this report was made on the first version posted, not the last which I had already edited with added references and clean-up of some copyright breach. Can you unblock me so I have an another try at this? Willuconquer (talk) 04:29, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"Apart from that, don't you think the 30+ references quoted are within reasonable length?" I would say no, as looking at the deleted article, almost everything you copied from your sources are not portrayed as quotes; see MOS:QUOTE. For something to be considered a quote, there needs to be "" quotation marks around it, or it needs to be in a template such as blockquote. While you may have intended the content you copied over to be quotes, it looks like straight copying to an outside observer. Having an article made entirely up of quotes is discouraged anyways, see WP:QUOTEFARM.
There's some good news if you want to rewrite the article; you are only currently blocked from mainspace and drafts, so you can still write stuff in your user space. You should be able to create a rewrite at a page like User:Willuconquer/rewrite, and I'm fine with you trying to rewrite the article there. I'm even willing to restore the references from the deleted article, and I can provide pointers along the way with your rewrite. If you are able to produce a rewrite with no copyright issues, that would go a far way in getting you unblocked. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 18:14, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Moneytrees yes, please restore the references and I'll do the rewrite in that space. thanks! Willuconquer (talk) 00:45, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Progress on rewrite[edit]

I took a look at your progress on User:Willuconquer/rewrite, it's looking good so far. I'll note that the sentences "set an ambush that killed Haruyuki Takata, a Japanese policeman working for" and "Yasushi Akashi and the UNTAC Force Commander Lieutenant General John Sanderson were forced to turn around after trying to reach Pailin, which was a massive embarrassment for the United Nations at the time" are too similar to https://cne.wtf/2019/12/08/war-stories-from-the-northwest-79-94/ and should be rewritten. Sorry if I'm late, I've reviewed the recent edits to the rewrite and can verify they have no copyright issues. I have unblocked you and have moved it into mainspace. Your work on the rewrite is impressive, thank you for that. If you have any future questions about copyright issues, feel free to ask me. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 19:40, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your advice and patience. Constructive criticism helps us all improve our own standards. I wonder if you could tell me about copyright issues, I am trying to make a map of the Anlong Veng trek where the last Khmer Rouge lived in hiding. What's the Wiki procedure to edit a copyright-free map? Willuconquer (talk) 08:39, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Special:Upload can be used to upload an image of a map you've created or is otherwise copyright free, there's some instructions there on labeling the image with a license compatible with Wikipedia's. If you are trying to update an existing map, C:Commons:Overwriting existing files has some guidelines on the matter. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 18:34, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Khleang Moeung[edit]

Thank you for an excellent article on Khleang Moeung. Are you aware of Coedes's mention of this figure in his article "First Foundation of Phnom Penh"? It's one page 11, and is in the context of Ponhea Yat's foundation of Phnom Penh. Apparently Yat put a neak ta shrine under a fig tree on the riverbank outside Wat Unnalom; Coedes says the neak ta was named Neak Ta Prap, "dont il fit le Khlang Muong." In a footnote he says that the name Prap is obscure "even to Cambodians", and I wonder if the Pech name might be a distortion of this. He explains Khleang Muong as signifying protection of the kingdom. I also wonder if Norodom, when he built his interim palace next to Wat Unnalom, was influenced by this shrine. I remember a shrine in that location around 2002-2005, but it's long gone now. The article is here. 12:26, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks, I was not aware of all that! I'll try to integrate it to the article as soon as I am no longer blocked.Willuconquer (talk) 09:21, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Chen Zhi (businessman) moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Chen Zhi (businessman), is not suitable as written to remain published. Hello Willuconquer, A significant proportion of this article appears to be copied verbatim from http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/08729b.htm., a source that is clearly marked "Copyright © 2021 by New Advent LLC". I have removed the offending passages and marked the page as patrolled. I strongly suggest that you read Wikipedia's policies on this subject, including Wikimedia:Terms of Use and WP:CV. Gderrin (talk) 10:13, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This article incorporates text from a publication now in the public domainHerbermann, Charles, ed. (1913). "Lace". Catholic Encyclopedia. New York: Robert Appleton Company.
How about this? Many pages integrate content for this source whose copyright has expired. Willuconquer (talk) 11:35, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Willuconquer, an administrator has redirected the article to draft with the edit summary "Mixture of copyvio, very poor paraphrasing, misinterpreted sources, ... Needs total rewrite to be acceptable". "Copyvio" means the artice included text that was word-for-word, the same as in a source. To understand "poor paraphrasing", you should read this. "Misinterpreted sources" probably means you do not seem to have understood the text you used. I think this is an interesting subject, but it probably does need to be rewritten. It would be probably better to start the article again, keeping it short, without close paraphrasing, and using your own words. Gderrin (talk) 12:01, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I'll try my best. But how about the possibility of incorporating text from this public domain source? Copied verbatim is what "incorporating" means and I want to make sure that what you are up against. Willuconquer (talk) 12:24, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Liturgical lace was just another article in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Catholicism/Catholic Encyclopedia topics. I think it might have been hastily deleted. Willuconquer (talk) 15:19, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You should probably read WP:CLOP again, especially the section "When is close paraphrasing permitted?", and all of WP:QUOTE and WP:INDISCRIMINATE. You might find it easier just to write the article again, in your own words. Gderrin (talk) 22:01, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Chen Zhi (businessman)[edit]

Hello, Willuconquer. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Chen Zhi".

"20st"[edit]

Please don't create categories at the form "20st-century". I see that you've attempted Category:20st-century Buddhist monks at least twice, but the ordinal form of the number 20 is 20th, not "20st", and the correct category Category:20th-century Buddhist monks already exists. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Sacred Heart into Month of the Sacred Heart. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 12:46, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:36, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@SunDawn thanks for the continuous support brother Willuconquer (talk) 04:40, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SunDawn:, @Willuconquer: please have a more attentive look at the preparation section. I tried my best, but the second part is too incoherent for me to fix. How can freshly steamed rice be "mixed with palm sugar to a fine powder"? Is the rice dried after steaming? What does "grease or cooking oil is mixed with the red part of the boiled duck or egg and applied to the palms of the hands and on the trunk" even mean? Trunk of what? Are boiled or raw eggs used in the recipe? Is boiled duck one of the ingredients? And everything that follows after that. "press the flour into flatbread" I thought it was a cracker, not a flatbread. And how can dry flour be pressed into anything that holds together? At which point and how does the dough become flour again and why does already dry "pressed flour is then dried in the sun"? It very much sounds like an unedited machine translation from Khmer.. –Turaids (talk) 18:29, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Turaids As a new page patroller my focus is not on the content of the article, but on the notability of the article. My review does not meant that the article doesn't have any problems. If you have concerns on the article, you could just do the edit for yourself per WP:BOLD and discuss that with other editors if contention happened. Have a great day! ✠ SunDawn ✠ (contact) 03:38, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, I fixed what I could, but boldness is useless when it comes to deciphering incomprehensible text. –Turaids (talk) 04:40, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Aurelia Spinola[edit]

Hi there, Willuconquer, and thank you for creating Aurelia Spinola. I detected it was translated from the French Aurelia Spinola. In order to clarify a translated article's attribution, it is necessary to state it is a translation in the first edit comment. It is also useful to include a "translated" template on the article's talk page. See Help:Translation for details. I've taken care of the attribution of Aurelia Spinola but you should bear this in mind for future translations. If you intend to translate more articles about women, you might be interested in joining WikiProject Women in Red where we are trying to improve the coverage of women on Wikipedia. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 07:17, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

thank you. I was not aware of that. I find the translation tool has becomore more useful to use. Willuconquer (talk) 07:19, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You need to pay particular attention to pronouns, etc. I needed to change "his" to "her" several times.--Ipigott (talk) 07:24, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
