Hello Wizardman, hope all is well. I was just informing you I've taken Aaron Rodgers through a peer review, and made the changes you recommended and was wondering if perhaps if you had the time you could review it again. Regards,--SKATER Is Back 02:01, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Dodging salting

This article Make Me Famous (band) was recently created. It could have been located at the title Make Me Famous, but that has been protected from being created. I've seen this happen before and I just want to make a point of either "Make Me Famous (band)" being deleted or being moved to "Make Me Famous" because either one should happen. I'll leave it to you • GunMetal Angel 14:56, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Thought I should drop you a note that I mentioned you. - jc37 12:20, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Wizardman. Thank you for previously restoring the GAN when User:BrianDeeG quick failed it under false claims of verifiability. Unfortunately, the same editor has done it again on the same article. Like his first review, I believe his second is wholly untrue, as it goes against many conventions of reliable sources, including the use of Amazon or other large retailers to cite release dates, and the use of primary sources i.e. the game's official website, especially when most of the article is based on third-party refs. Could you please intervene again, and perhaps send a message to BrianDeeG?-- 20:17, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 May newsletter

We're halfway through round 3 (or the quarter finals, if you prefer) and things are running smoothly. We're seeing very high scoring; as of the time of writing, the top 16 all have over 90 points. This has already proved to be more competative than this time last year- in 2011, 76 points secured a place, while in 2010, a massive 250 was the lowest qualifying score. People have also upped their game slightly from last round, which is to be expected as we approach the end of the competition. Leading Pool A is Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), whose points have mostly come from a large number of did you knows on marine biology. Pool B's leader, Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions), is for the first time not our highest scorer at the time of newsletter publication, but his good articles on The X-Files and Millenium keep him in second place overall. Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions) leads Pool C, our quietest pool, with content in a variety of areas on a variety of topics. Pool D is led by Scotland Casliber (submissions), our current overall leader. Nearly half of Casliber's points come from his triple-scored Western Jackdaw, which is now a featured article.

This round has seen an unusually high number of featured lists, with nearly one in five remaining participants claiming one, and one user, New York City Muboshgu (submissions), claiming two. Miyagawa's featured list, 1936 Summer Olympics medal table, was even awarded double points. By comparison, good article reviews seem to be playing a smaller part, and featured topics portals remain two content-types still unutilised in this competition. Other than that, there isn't much to say! Things are coming along smoothly. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! GA

Hi, thanks for doing-whatever-you-did to fix Loch Ness Monster. I actually put the template up there a week ago and nothing happened, a mystery to me. It seemed to work today when I moved it to the /GA page - wrong, so it seems - but it definitely didn't do its job when it was in the proper place, so I now have no working model in my mind of how the thing is actually supposed to work. Ask someone nearby appears to be the correct method! Any clue would be appreciated.... Chiswick Chap (talk) 15:20, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. Can you show me where there are any instructions for how to actually fail it as you did?—Kww(talk) 12:53, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Knock, knock. This actually was a serious question. When it came time to close, I couldn't find instructions anywhere, so I just sat back and waited until someone did it. I'm fairly adept at searching for things, so if I couldn't find it, there will be others. I'll happily add some handy pointers to the instructions if anyone can tell me where they are.—Kww(talk) 11:11, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Tay-Sachs GOCE request

Hi. Could you clarify your position on this please? Rgds, --Stfg (talk) 14:52, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

From the looks of the edit history, Allens's copyedit appeared to be complete; the fact that he then nommed it for GAN tells me this. Uploadvirus's ce was only partial but came before the other one, so it seemed to be to be complete. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 15:04, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
I see. But I was already on the case. It is inappropriate for you to make unilateral decisions about the disposition of GOCE requests when you are neither the requester nor the copy editor. If there's an issue, please refer it to one of the GOCE coordinators. I am the most active and will almost always respond within 24 hours unless there's a wikibreak notice on my talk page, but of course you can ask any of us, as you prefer. Please don't go over our heads again. Thanks. --Stfg (talk) 15:44, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Apologies

Hi! My apologies with the GA review - I dug up almost all the refs and had worked through most of them, when I hit the deadline to mark a couple of hundred student assignments. :( They took much longer than expected (they always do), but I'm finally through them so I can handle this properly. - Bilby (talk) 15:55, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Something to keep an eye on

Hey there. I see that you're coordinating the GA drive again, and I trust your judgement on these things, so I thought I'd bring something to your attention. User:Deathlasersonline has signed up for the drive, and has started a GA review Ruby Tuesday (restaurant) here. He previously signed up for the WP:GOCE backlog elimination drive in May, and the WP:WikiProject Wikify backlog elimination drive in June. In both cases, his contributions were determined to be either non-existent or actually worsened the articles he edited. I would suggest closely watching his GA review(s), as I have serious WP:COMPETENCE concerns, and would hate to see someone's GA efforts get derailed. Torchiest talkedits 17:29, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Update: He has been blocked for a year, so the above GA review, as well as Talk:Worthington Brewery/GA1 and Talk:Thessaloniki/GA1, are now stuck in limbo. Would we normally just put them back to a pre-review state on the GAN list, or should someone else take them over? Torchiest talkedits 18:25, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
It looks like the Worthington Brewery and Thessaloniki GA1 review files have been proposed for speedy delete. If those go through, then it's a quick matter of resetting the respective talk pages by removing onreview even while leaving the page number at 1, and they're back in the pool for a new GA1. Ruby Tuesday, since it's further along, wouldn't be eligible for a speedy delete, so I've been WP:BOLD and ended the review by resetting the talk page to it's no longer onreview, and the page number has been bumped from 1 to 2. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:33, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Okay, sounds good. Thanks for doing that. Torchiest talkedits 20:51, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
You're welcome. The other two have had their GA1 pages removed by an admin; I've just removed the "onhold" designation on the respective Talk pages (yet another thing Deathlasersonline did wrong), and they'll now be listed as regular entries needing a review. I've just pulled all three from the Deathlasersonline section of the GA drive page along with his header (the two were showing as red links, which looked really odd); I'll leave it to the coordinators to do whatever's appropriate with the list of reviewers. First GA review

I've been thinking of attempting a first review for a while now, and I've found one that I know something about. (It's a book I've read.) The thing is, the more I look at the article, the more I'm convinced that it's going to need a significant amount of work to bring it up to GA level.

I realize that you have the drive about to start, but I was wondering if I could ask you, as you offered last month, to check my work and make sure I don't run off the rails asking for things I ought not, or miss something crucial. (As this is a work of fiction, and series fiction at that, I might not be as sensitive to "in-world" issues as I ought.) And if you think one with such known issues is not an ideal article to start with, let me know that, too. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:42, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey! As i'm coordinating the drive with Wizardman, I can check your reviews if you wan't, since he's not much time to spend here, for what he'd told me. —Hahc21 [TALK][CONTRIBS] 18:11, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm definitely not eligible for the drive, but I appreciate the offer. If Wizardman isn't available (or even if he is), feel free to chime in if it looks like I've headed off course or am missing some things; I'll definitely add in a delay after I think I've addressed things for outside commentary. Thanks! BlueMoonset (talk) 19:02, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I've checked your contribs and you're mostly a nominator. have you ever reviewed an article? if you want, you can help us on the drive (as a contributor) instead of reviewing articles. —Hahc21 [TALK][CONTRIBS] 19:12, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I expect I'll be adding to the stack of reviews over the next month, but I thought it was time to do my first review. I've participated a bit in some past reviews by adding comments, but not extensively. Mostly lately I've been trying to get forgotten reviews back on track (or, if abandoned, back in the pool prior to the start of the drive), and I try to get malformed nominations or reviews adjusted so the GA bot can handle them properly. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:22, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
That's a very good work. And you can help os teh on tracking reviews. If you're interested on doing your first GA review, i can co-review an article with you, if you want. I'll be reviewing about 30 articles during the drive (apart from coordinating all with WM and reviewing the reviews XD). —Hahc21 [TALK][CONTRIBS] 19:58, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I appreciate the offer, but I would prefer to do the review entirely myself, with assistance if I go off the rails. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:48, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Wizardman, can you please take a look? I've just posted my review conclusion (a fail, unfortunately), and wanted your feedback, or at least a "looks okay", before I put through the final step on the article talk page. Also, if you have any corrections for the GAList template (I'm not sure it's exactly right) or additional advice for Kangaroopowah, please feel free. Thanks again for the encouragement. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:22, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the confirmation on the GA1 page. I just closed the review. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:49, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

AWB misuse

Please don't make edits like this one where the only change is to bypass a redirect. Redirects are not a problem, so unless the redirect is being deleted or repurposed (in which case the edit summary should indicate this), these edits serve simply to clog the article history and annoy anyone watching the affected articles. This is also against the AWB Rules of use #4. Thanks. Anomie 15:16, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

High-risk project templates?

I'm not quite sure if Template:Olympics to-do really needs to be protected as a high-risk template. Yes, it has many transclusions due to its use in the WikiProject banner, but isn't the point of such to-do lists to provide a notice board where editors can fairly easily make note of project tasks? I think having the template at full protection kind of fails its purpose. --Paul_012 (talk) 15:46, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

I see what you're saying, but the fact that the template had very few edits over the few years before I added that in makes me think that it wasn't really an obstacle. If you want to make some edits to it then I could unprotect it for now. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 16:08, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 June newsletter

Apologies for the lateness of this letter; our usual bot wasn't working. We are now entering round 4, our semi-finals, and have our final 16. A score of 243 was required to reach this round; significantly more than 2011's 76 points, and only a little behind 2010's 250 points. By comparison, last year, 150 points in round 4 secured a place in the final; in 2010, 430 were needed. Commiserations to Pool A's Minas Gerais igordebraga (submissions), who scored 242 points, missing out on a place in the round by a whisker. However, congratulations to Pool B's Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions), whose television articles have brought him another round victory. Pool A's Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came second overall, with an impressive list of biological did you knows, good articles and featured articles. Third overall was Pool D's New York City Muboshgu (submissions), with a long list of contibutions, mostly relating to baseball. Of course, with the points resetting every round, the playing field has been levelled. The most successful Pool was Pool D, which saw seven into the final round. Pool B saw four, C saw three and Pool A saw only the two round leaders.

A quick note about other competitions taking place on Wikipedia which may be of interest. There are 13 days remaining in the June-July GAN backlog elimination drive, but it is not too late to take part. August will also see the return of The Core Contest- a one month long competition first run in 2007. While the WikiCup awards points for audited content on any subject, The Core Contest about is raw article improvement, focussing heavily on the most important articles on Wikipedia. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. "Fixing" redirects

Hi, just a little notification: I notice you've been changing a lot of templates which are shortcuts/redirects to their longform name saying you're "fixing" them... it is not only wasteful, but also discouraged by the editing guideline on Redirects. I however admire your dedication to making the encyclopedia better and hope you'll continue fixing things that need fixing! :) Salvidrim! 18:52, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Rollback

Since you're an uninvolved admin, could you please take a look at User:Status and User:Till I Go Home? The issue is, they were involved (with me) on a big ANI issue about edit warring and a blocked user and so on. The involved admin, Toddst1, removed the rollback rights from those users with the next rationale:

  1. For Status: "repeated blocks for edit warring, not understanding EW policy and exceptions"
  2. For Till I Go Home: "Editor's repeated statements have made it clear that s/he doesn't understand what an EW is and isn't, so removing RB. This may be restored later if the user demonstrates a full understanding of the policy."

I'd be glad if you take a look ans tell me what you think. Thanks! —Hahc21 04:12, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

End of Drive

Hey. Just after the drive ends, i will go and scan all reviews. All reviews with a "*" is that they are suspicious and could be removed from the count. I leave the "*" for you to check them and make the final decision wether to remove them or not. Regards. —Hahc21 17:14, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

The drive is finished. I archived the page to avoid future additions. Now, i will scan-check the reviews. Regards. —Hahc21 00:06, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Hello

Hi Wizardman, I was wondering if you could give some GA review feedback for Talk:William (The X-Files)/GA1. Thanks so much. TBrandley 05:28, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

GA advice

Hello Wizardman, as you have done some prolific work with the reviews (including failing my GA nomination of Uttarakhand on very valid grounds,on which I am working for FA),I thought you can help a little bit.I wanted to know your views about Rockstar (soundtrack) As it says here the article need not be comprehensive and i don't think ,much more can be added to the article. So would you suggest some improvements or GAN.Ayanosh (talk) 18:50, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Peer Review

Hello there, the article (Uttarakhand) you quickfailed seems to be ready and this time for the for FA.There is a PR going on.Your suggestions can improve the article.Thank You Ayanosh (talk) 09:36, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

GA review length

For personal interest only, the reviews you've "x"ed on the list which are very short passes, was it that you wouldn't have passed them - there were issues that should have been mentioned? Procedurally I don't think there's anything wrong with a really short pass if it's correct. Grandiose (me, talk, contribs) 17:10, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Well, i have read some of the Xs and what i found is: 2 of them are now redirects, so the review cannot be counted; another one was passed by a different user thatn the one who started the review so it cannot be counted. I didn't read more since i was checking other reviews. I hope this could help you. —Hahc21 01:34, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Wizardman, I'm split between Checked and Red XN this review. Any thoughts. Pyrotec (talk) 15:35, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, I didn't really want to Red XN a coordinator, but neither did I want to show preferential treatment. Pyrotec (talk) 16:23, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Haha it is really irrelevant. We can leave some things like that on the way. Anyway, thanks Wiz for Red XN on One Direction 2013 World Tour. I just forgot to remove it from the list since it was a quickfail and i was kind of busy at the end of the drive. As another point, i would like you to see this: [2]. Regards. —Hahc21 05:01, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

I need your help again. Given my well documented lack of Wiki-savvy, I don't know how to properly tag this image in order to avoid it getting deleted. I've asked for your help in these matters before and have received it. Thank you. thumb

So if I make it smaller, that would make it OK? It's the album's original cover that got pulled from shelves almost immediately after the CD was released. Very few made it into circulation, and I happen to have one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.54.246.53 (talk) 02:22, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

GA review approval check

I notice that you have approved of TRLIJC19's GA review of Contagion (film) for the purposes of the recent review round. I have to admit I'm surprised: There were serious prose issues remaining, in my view, at the point that the article was deemed at GA level. They were so bad that it took me several hours of editing to bring it up to what I considered decent, on the theory that if I could fix it, I ought to rather than to start a GAR, even given the obvious prose faults. A significant example: "Ebullient of the soundtracks of the aforementioned films". Another: that the supposed sales for the first three weeks of DVD release together exceeded the total sales to date listed in the same paragraph. Here's the diff between the article at the time of GA approval and the subsequent completion of my final edits.

I think I spent more work on this review and subsequent fix than I did on the GA review you mentored me on a month ago. If I hadn't intervened the first time, the few corrections requested would have resulted in a highly problematic pass. As it was, the pass was problematic given the shape the article was in, and I think a reconsideration of review credit is in order. Although perhaps the standards for GA prose are not nearly as high as I have believed. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:39, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. Good to know I wasn't mistaken about the prose level. BlueMoonset (talk) 12:25, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Can you show me where the above article was tagged for copyright violation? Statυs (talk) 02:24, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

At [[3]], it was determined that the deadline is July 31 for completing backlog drive reviews. Can you comment at Wikipedia_talk:Good_article_nominations#Backlog_elimination_drive_2nd_opinions_needed--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 20:21, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
