Your AIV report about Porta123

Thank you for making a report about Porta123 (talk · contribs · block log) on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you! Sandstein (talk) 21:49, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

No problem. I'm glad to revert. Anyways, I'm glad somebody notices the work of editors that do things "behind the scenes". Thanks for the smile too. I see you have a head injury, whats that about?--Sunny910910 (talk|Contributions) 23:59, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Erm, it was an unfortunate incident with a mini-trampoline and a rather low ceiling. I don't want to talk about it, my head hurts too much. =( NF24(radio me!) 00:02, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Happy New Year

{{helpme}}

didn't do it by purpose. I am not good with internet things and I am first days using wikipedia. I needed help for this question! the happy new year message was before and now I posted this... didn't know how it worked I thought you read my problem in the user page.

Why am I accused to have posted an article violating copyrights while I have put in the article the licensing section with links to official permission? Why is this article accused to be about a non relevant band? they are renown adn respected here in Italy and collaborate with a famous jazz musician, Mike Stern, check out their songs on myspace, he is really playing 4 tunes with them! Will my article be approved with no more suspects or accusations?

Sacredsoul2 (talk) 12:55, 1 January 2008 (UTC) Okay now it is fine. The user removed tag for deletion. sorry for bothering and please don't be mad at me, I am new to internet things!--Sacredsoul2 (talk) 12:57, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Whopper Freakout

Hi NASCAR Fan24.. I don't disagree with your nomination for Whopper Freakout but I just wanted your opinion on something related.. I nominated an article about a small ad campaign initiated by PepsiCo a few weeks back that you can review at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dewmocracy.. do you think that should have turned out differently? I still believe that it isn't all that relevant but now I see it has been wedged into the Mountain Dew article and wanted your thoughts on that. Coccyx Bloccyx (talk) 19:26, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

IMHO, Dewmocracy seems more notable than Whopper Freakout. Dewmocracy is an online game and it's clear that some people were excited about it. Freakout is an eight-minute movie that was cut into 30-second bits for commercials. I agree with the results of both AfD's. NF24(radio me!) 21:11, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

FIFA 08

Cheers mate, that's made my day! I think you're right about the need for outside comment - if the article is reverted again I'll post at the Wikiproject video games cleanup department and hopefully someone better at explaining stuff than me will drop by (and maybe make a better job of sorting out the article). Thanks again, Miremare 18:42, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Stevan Pilipović

I am concerned at the speed at which you nominated Stevan Pilipović for deletion. I monitor non-English language deletions, and often see notable individuals deleted, which disturbs me. Could you please slow down, to avoid biting the newbies, and contributing to systematic bias. It doesn't take that long to verify notability, and I feel this would have been much better referred to AfD. Cheers. Mostlyharmless (talk) 23:13, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, but Mr. Pilipović doesn't appear to meet the notability guidelines for professors. Perhaps a speedy template was a bit much here, but I'm reluctant to take articles to AfD unless I'm absolutely certain that a speedy would be refuted or it's close to meeting the notability guidelines. NF24(radio me!) 23:20, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
I understand your reasoning, but I think that you should give other editors the benefit of the doubt. CSD is for things that obviously should be deleted - and this wasn't at all obvious to me. I wouldn't like for notability to be assumed, but this article appears to quite possibly meet PROF. I would automatically disupte any article of a member of the Royal Society of New Zealand being CSD'd, for example, and SASA seems to be an organisation of a similar nature. Much better that we take this to Wikproject Mathematics and let them tell us whether this man is a notable mathematician, rather than abitrarily making this decision ourselves. Mostlyharmless (talk) 23:36, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

AfD question: Recombinant text

I have very little experience in AfD matters, and am asking for your input before nominating an article for deletion, because, quite frankly, I do not want to be seen as someone who capriciously nominates articles which do not meet AfD standards.

If you have time, please take a look at this article. It was created by the person who—as the intro asserts—is the very person who coined the term. Most of the edits are by that person. Most, if not all, of the sources link back to this person. I mean, at best it appears to me to constitute OR, at worst, self-promotion. But maybe I'm seeing it wrong. What do you think?

I selected you and many other editors pretty much completely at random; I picked one day's AfD archives, and clicked on the talk pages of the first two or three dozen editors' talk pages I came across. I hope that in using this selection method, I will get editors who are well-versed in AfD policies, yet who also represent a good cross-section of AfD philosophies. I will monitor your talk page for your response. Thanks. Unschool (talk) 07:08, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

I've nominated it for AfD, as it appears to be a non-notable neologism. It also does appear to be entirely OR, but that may not apply per Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions#Surmountable problem. NF24(radio me!) 12:24, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Something you've probably been asked before.

Hey. I've seen you pretty much everywhere the past few months, and was wondering if you'd like to try for adminship at WP:RFA. I understand you're still new, but with your contribution record so far it shouldn't be too big of a deal. I'd gladly nom you if you want. Though if you have other co-noms already, let me know and I'll get in contact with them. Let me know if you're interested. Wizardman 17:09, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

I think that, yes, I'd like to try for adminship. Thanks for thinking of me. User:Stormtracker94 asked me about a month ago if I would like him to nom me (but I turned it down). NF24(radio me!) 20:51, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Alright. I'll write up the nomination and ask if he wants to co-nom. Then we can take it from there. Wizardman 22:40, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

I've went and let Stormtracker94 know about this, so once he decides if he wants to co-nom, you can answer the questions and be ready to go. Wizardman 03:06, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Two things

In response to your response to Q10 on your RfA I've added some additional questions asking for clarification of your response. I hope you don't mind.

I see that your signature is different from your username. I feel that that can be confusing, especially to newer users, and that especially for an admin it's important to make it easy for people to find your username. Of course it's up to you, but I wonder if you would be willing to consider changing your signature to match your username. --Coppertwig (talk) 02:51, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

I noticed your Q10 follow up and have answered it. I am currently contemplating changing my username to NF24; not my signature as I feel that NASCAR Fan24 is too long. NF24(radio me!) 02:52, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for your quick replies! I'm relieved to hear that you plan to tag articles at 10 minutes or so rather than immediately at creation. (I wonder whether this means you would still speedy-tag articles, so that two people would be involved in each deletion.)
Sorry, another question: How does your answer to my first follow-up question fit in with this criterion from Wikipedia:Featured picture criteria: "Still images are a minimum of 1000 pixels in width or height"? --Coppertwig (talk) 03:09, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
For the first question, I am thinking about whether to tag or straight delete. I think due to the opposers' concerns, I will start out tagging. As for the second question, I don't think that picture or the other one in the article meets criterion 8 (looking at the original purpose of the article which definitely may have been advertising). My RfA

Hey there, I'm writing to inform you that I have withdrawn my request for adminship, which was currently standing at 11 supports, 22 opposes and 6 neutrals. This count could have been so much better if I had understood policy, although I believe that 17 questions is a lot to ask of a user's first RfA. I will take on all comments given at the RfA and will endeavour to meet the high expectations of the RfA voters. WEBURIEDOURSECRETSINTHEGARDENplay it cool. 21:13, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Good luck on your next RfA. NF24(radio me!) 13:50, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

RfA

Hey NF.

I just wanted to say that, although I decided not to support, I'm sorry your RfA did not go as you had hoped. Having gone through an unsuccessful RfA myself (and one that caused quite a row on IRC, actually), I know how frustrating it can be. The RfA process is a rough one, and I think it is unfairly rough on people who are generally good contributors but do not have the whole support of the community.

I hope there's no hard feelings coming out of this. I really do think you are a very good contributor and that, in time, you will make an excellent admin. Even in your comments over the last few days I have started to see you respond positively to some of the concerns people raised. I think that shows a commendable initiative on your part.

Please accept my most sincere well-wishes. I will keep an eager eye out for your next RfA. Until then, I hope to see you around.

Peace. - Revolving Bugbear 23:30, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I too would like to say that I hope you don't feel too badly about withdrawing: it must have been a hard decision, but a good one, I believe. The next time you run, once you have put the suggestions into action (as you have already shown yourself to be willing to do), you will pass with flying colours, which will be the real triumph, no? Good luck, and keep up the good work.--Slp1 (talk) 00:09, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

To be honest, I would have liked to see you see it through all the way, but to each his own. %67 is nothing to scoff at, really, when it comes to RFA. Don't let it get you down... I hope to see you try again in a few months. ----Jump! Slash! Dash! Ouch! Super Mario SonicBOOM! 13:46, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Hamster

Hey, thanks for cleaning up my paragraphs in 'hamster' article. I'm going to be adding quite a bit more to the introduction and hopefully some information on the behaviour in the wild as I study them in College.

Once thing I am unsure about but how am I meant to verify claims that people have wrote about hamsters should I just change it to the facts?

Thanks again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Groovygramp (talkcontribs) 08:33, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

As it's hard to find sources for animal-related articles, you should just leave the existing facts as they are. Anything unreasonable must be sourced or it can be removed. NF24(radio me!) 11:39, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Im quite new to editing pages on Wiki, by sourcing do you mean find book references or online resources to prove my findings? Also how can I judge what I think is accurate and what is false as I want to make Wikipedia even more factual as I also noticed that the hamster page is very sceptical and brief. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Groovygramp (talkcontribs) 00:35, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Online resources are fine. Unfortunately, there are no hints when it comes to deciding what is factual or not - the only advice I can give you is to use lots of common sense. NF24(radio me!) 01:01, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
