Centralized TV Episode Discussion[edit]

Over the past months, TV episodes have been reverted by (to name a couple) TTN, Eusebeus and others. No centralized discussion has taken place, so I'm asking everyone who has been involved in this issue to voice their opinions here in this centralized spot, be they pro or anti. Discussion is here [1]. --Maniwar (talk) 23:43, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

I'll get to it once I have time to read up on the existing discussion. I have much to say, but I don't want to say something that's already said, nor do I want to ignore existing points which have been brought up. -- Y|yukichigai (ramble argue check) 11:54, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Edit summary[edit]

Regarding this summary: Who is the "you" whom you're addressing? --Kife 10:33, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

User:Johntex. Thus far he appears to be the only person who has raised any serious concerns (that is to say, concerns not relating to minor issues like specific wording) over the inclusion of the new section as it was at the most recent version. -- Y|yukichigai (ramble argue check) 10:36, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough, I just had a moment of paranoia. Cheers. --Kife 10:39, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Civility[edit]

Edit summaries such as this are unacceptable in any context; please don't repeat such behavior. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 22:56, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm calling a spade a spade. If you look over Clockback's contributions to the article for the past week or so you'll likely also arrive at the conclusion that he's being a twat. -- Y|yukichigai (ramble argue check) 23:28, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps you are unaware that, though calling someone a "twat" might be acceptable in some contexts, it's considered extremely vulgar in most others. I fail to see how edits turn someone into a vagina. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 23:55, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
It's British slang, and the user is British, and it's roughly the equivalent of calling someone a dick here in the states. As far as why it turns someone into a vagina... ask the Brits. -- Y|yukichigai (ramble argue check) 23:58, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
It's incivil. Desist. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 00:00, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

I was going to make the same warning, I see that jpgordon beat me to it. When we call a spade a spade, we are calling a spade a spade. Not a potato a spade. Clockback is not a "twat," which is literally incorrect, or, alternatively, is at best a vulgar and uncivil term for someone being rude. He made a clumsy edit, I suspect he didn't realize that it would appear as it did, and he is being contentious and, indeed, disruptive in violation of WP:POINT, but we don't need to toss gasoline on the fire. I have warned him, as I am warning you. You could be blocked for that comment, users have been blocked for less. --Abd (talk) 00:52, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

peer review[edit]

I was wondering if you could take some time out of your schedule to head over to the Heroes (TV series) talkpage and give us an honest peer review. The page has gone through some major changes in the last few months, and it would be fantastic if a prominent editor/contributor like yourself, could head over and give us at the Heroes Wikiproject some sound opinion and ideas on improvements for the page. We have all worked very hard at improving the page, and we need great outside, reliable and trustworthy users to come over and help us improve. I you are interested in joining the peer review discussion with other prominent users/contributors, much like yourself, please follow the link. Race and Crime[edit]

Hey there! I was just wondering why you removed materials such as this; I dislike the studies too, but if academic institutions have studied the pattern of interracial crime then there's no reason not to include it. At least, that's my opinion; others may think differently. Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 05:38, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

I see where you're going; I'll leave it to you guys to decide whether it's fair to be included on the talk page (after all, you're right, the study is a bit too small to be effectively compared to others). Also, another user has brought up a concern of an indef-blocked user on that page. If you find anything out, please let me know so that I can take further action. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 05:12, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

removing the POV tag on the ADHD article[edit]

Hi, that tag was put there for a specific reason. The quote that, "adhd is the most controversial disorder there is", is in my opinion minority opinion, and as such should not be in the lead section. This was mentioned in talk, and another contributor who also stripped the tag, hasn't given a clear reason why it belongs in the lead or why it should be considered majority viewpoint. I know of no medical body or scientific body that has specifically stated it is a controversial disorder. Usually controversy centers around the issue of medication not the whole disorder itself. Anyways, I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't remove the tag but welcome you to the talk page to discuss the matter.--scuro (talk) 23:41, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Moving Characters in Metalocalypse[edit]

I've reverted your move because it lacked a rationale. I'm assuming you moved it because of a "naming convention"; this naming convention is somewhat controversial amongst page editors, specifically because most of us would like to distance this article from being written off as "just a list". There are several discussions on the talk page over this specific issue. Please read them, and if you're still adamant that a page move is appropriate, let us know why there. -- Y|yukichigai (ramble argue check) 09:35, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

In looking over that discussion, I don't see any controversy. I see you standing alone against the move. (With one other person at the end agreeing with you for reasons of personal aesthetics.)
And I think that you should probably read WP:LIST. There are several kinds of lists.
And incidentally, if I were to read past your concerns, you simply seem to be afraid of deletion, on the grounds that the page is a list. Well, you may wish to be aware of a current consensus developing concerning lists and "notability". As an article, there is a fair chance the page may be deleted, but as a list, it may be considered related to Metalocalypse, and fall under it's noability. So you are probably not helping yourself (or more importantly the page) here by attempting to be contrary to naming conventions.
If you feel that I'm missing something please feel free to let me know. - jc37 18:06, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

FYI[edit]

RFC at WP:NOR-notice[edit]

A concern was raised that the clause, "a primary source may be used only to make descriptive claims, the accuracy of which is verifiable by any reasonable, educated person without specialist knowledge" conflicts with WP:NPOV by placing a higher duty of care with primary sourced claims than secondary or tertiary sourced claims. An RFC has been initiated to stimulate wider input on the issue. Professor marginalia (talk) 19:06, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Working on recreating “Race and crime”.[edit]

I’m posting this comment on the discussion pages of several users who were involved in editing the article Race and crime before it was merged into Anthropological criminology, to let all of you know that I’m working on recreating the Race and crime article. My current draft for it can be found here. I would appreciate help from any of you with two things related to this:

1: RegentsPark, the admin who protected the redirect from Race and crime to Anthropological criminology, has suggested that the statistical information in this article should be better-integrated into the portion of it that discusses how these statistics can be interpreted. I would appreciate help with improving this aspect of the article, or any other aspects of it that you think could be improved.

2: RegentsPark has let me know here that he won’t be willing to unprotect the article himself, no matter how much it’s improved, so if I would like it to be unprotected I should propose this at WP:RFPP. I’ve proposed there that it be unprotected, but the admin who responded (User:Camaron) stated that without RegentsPark’s approval, I would need to first obtain a consensus that the article should be recreated. If you think the article does not require any additional improvements, and is good enough to be recreated in its current state, I would appreciate you making your opinion about this known on the draft’s discussion page, so that we can begin to create a consensus for this.

Thanks in advance. --Captain Occam (talk) 23:35, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Your edit to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl plot summary[edit]

I noticed that you rewrote the plot summary of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, particularly to rearange the events to match the sequence as the player encountered them. I'm fine with that, but what disturbs me is the length. The Project guidelines establish a limit of 700 words for a summary. Prior to your edit, it had a word count of about 550; after your edit, it had a word count of over 1,000. If you could trim it down to around 700, I'd be fine with it. Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 05:19, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I have a problem getting things in under a word limit at first. It's one of my weaknesses as an editor, but I try to make up for it by doing the massive information dump first, then "trim the fat" off what I've put in. To be fair though, the game is rather long, longer than most video games (40+ hours) which gives it some leeway I think. I would like to get the length down all the same, but the plot is a bit difficult to explain briefly (if it weren't for the complex backstory C-Consciousness imparts it would be under the limit as is).
Anyway, if you see something you can reword or condense in what I've got please do. My big concern is just keeping the plot section in linear order without skipping major plot points. - Y|yukichigai (ramble argue check) 06:28, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Re: Race and Crime > Thanks for the archiving help[edit]

Hi, Yukichigai. I just wanted to thank you for pulling up those old archives. I became involved in the article at the end of September last year, and I wasn't aware of the older discussions. Also, thanks for the positive feedback on the article: it took a fair amount of work, but the article finally seems to have overcome the problems that had plagued it for quite some time. After having wrapped up my work on it in October, I've noticed that it has remained surprisingly stable and free of targeting by trolls. It's far from perfect, though. I'm pretty confident in regards to the research and the sourcing, but the text itself could be tightened by a more efficient editor. Cheers, --Aryaman (talk) 19:20, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Redaktor Wikipedia 600px.png

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:37, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Re: Super Meat Boy[edit]

Collaboration does not mean that every contribution is fine with some tweaks. You took a featured article and slapped on eight paragraphs of closely-detailed, sometimes crossing the line into OR, plot. Final Fantasy XIII manages to get its ridiculous plot into four paragraphs- at that level of summary, the SMB plot would be a couple sentences long, and wouldn't need its own section, if that needed to be written at all. Which it doesn't- for someone who is so against content authoritarianism, I'm surprised that your reasoning behind adding a plot section is that wikipedia guidelines mandate a plot section; they don't, it's whatever the article can support. In this case, the article can't support a plot section that doesn't over-analyze every second of flash animation. To quote myself from the second FAC (of three) - "There's basically no story- each level is in a vacuum, and between worlds are short cutscenes that do little but show meat boy getting close to bandage girl, Dr. Fetus stealing her away, and a reason for the transition in level theme. The plot isn't noted in any review or synopsis, and isn't a driving force for the game's action." --PresN 15:45, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Dr. Clayton Forrester (Mystery Science Theater 3000) - Fair use image[edit]

Hi. I've reverted your change to Dr. Clayton Forrester (Mystery Science Theater 3000) because the image you used does not have a fair use rationale for its use in this particular article as required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. I suggest you add a specific fair use rationale to File:MST3K Frank and Clay.png prior to adding it back to the page. regards. -- Whpq (talk) 15:05, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

Oops, fair enough. Fair use rationale added. Thanks for the heads up. -- Y|yukichigai (ramble argue check) 20:35, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
