VB Addu FC is a professional Maldivian football club based in Malé, Maldives. VB Addu FC is the former VB Sports club which was re-branded on 14 January 2012.
The club was founded in 1987. The club originally evolved from Orchid Sports Club, a team which was formed by the staffs of Bandos Island Resort. Orchid was later bought by the owners of Club Lagoons and renamed as New Lagoons which later was undertaken by a group of businessmen from Addu Atoll and was changed to the name of ‘Island Football Club’ which was later acquired by a leading entity. The team was then transformed into VB sports on 8 November 2006.
The transition & formation of VB sports club is all very new, but the name VB & the team won’t be a surprise to the Maldivian football community as the team comes with the most gifted & famous players in the nation. VB holds the position of a legend & followed like a cult. It has become one of the most anticipated moments in the history of Maldivian football. The team holds its grounds not only with individual skills, national performance benchmarks or score charts.
On 14th January 2012 VB sports club was re-branded to VB Addu FC in their annual general meeting. Hassan Shiyam replaced Hamid Ismail as chairman. Other members appointed includes, Ahmed Shiyam as vice chairman, Gahthan Haleem as CEO, Ahmed Manik as Treaasurer, Ahmed Hany Naeem as General Secretary and Ahmed Shamin as Secreatry. The 6 board members in the executive committee include, Ali Shiyam, Mohamed Shaveed, Mohamed Latheef, Ali Latheef and Mohamed Rasheed. After the meeting, Board member Mohamed Shaveed said that they have been trying to include Addu from the first day. "From the day one we have been trying to include Addu’s name in this club and we are really proud to have Addu’s name in this club."
