The concert choir has received multiple Superior ratings at state contest, including the 2005, 2006, and 2007 contests. Along with the choir, Van Buren is home of the decorated show choir group "The Association," which competes in class C.

Recently, the Van Buren Black Knight Marching Band received a superior rating at Findlay OMEA competition which qualified them for State Contest. On November 6, 2009, the VBMB traveled to Dublin, OH to compete in State for the first time in Van Buren history. They received a II rating and missed a I rating by one point.

[edit] Technology

Van Buren Local Schools has become a technology strong point for the region. Notable leaps forward were introduced around 2003 when the district brought web service, email hosting for staff and students, and server based computing in house to better serve the needs of the district. New initiatives include thin client computing, in house video production, editing, and streaming, as well as online educational "Tech Tips" and online classroom management software. The school district prides itself on being a technology leader and in doing so has brought tremendous efficiency and cost savings to the tax payers.

Van Buren was also one of the first districts in the region to adopt a district wide computing platform which brought consistency to the end users, eased software licensing issues, and streamlined support mechanisms. Tremendous cost and time savings were seen when converting to an all PC network. End user support response time is generally measured in minutes and overall system uptime is near 100%.
