Adobe Version Cue is a computer program sold by Adobe Systems, only available as a part of the Adobe Creative Suite. Version Cue enables users to track and manipulate file versions and metadata. Users can see previews of older versions and can restore or delete versions at any time. Version Cue also supports collaboratively reviewing PDFs among groups of people.
Version Cue is accessed via Adobe Bridge. The Version Cue Server uses Java to run the synchronization server and JavaServer Faces to create a web-based administration portal. The portal reveals that running an instance of the Version Cue server also launches an embedded instance of the MySQL database server. This does not interfere with any existing MySQL installations.
Adobe Version Cue was discontinued after the release of CS4.[1] Users of CS5 may continue to access a Version Cue Server from CS3 or CS4 with WebDAV.
Version Cue tried to solve the digital asset versioning problem, from the perspective of a creative professional. Traditional version control systems (VCS) like RCS, CVS, SVN have been targeted at software developers, creative professionals who are less savvy with VCS concepts were a prime audience for Version Cue. In the meantime alternatives to Version Cue have emerged in the market place.
