Viana, Angola
Viana is a town in the Luanda Province, Angola. Viana lies 15 to 30 kilometers east as a suburb of the capital Luanda and is home to 68.000 inhabitants including about 6,000 long-term refugees, primarily from Katanga Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Viana is about a 90 minute drive from downtown Luanda.
The town was founded on 13 December 1963 and includes the towns of Viana and Barra do Kwanza, Calumbo and Zango. Because of the proximity to the metropolitan city Luanda, Viana has experienced in recent years a very large increase in population and industry.
It is home to the Estádio do Santos, a 17,000 seat stadium built in 2003 that is used primarily for football matches.
