Victoria is the white cat from the musical Cats. Her coat is completely white (although in some versions the tips of her ears are black, and she has brownish-copper stripes on her sides.) She was named after T. S. Eliot's favorite queen, Queen Victoria. As this is a very demanding role, requiring extensive ballet training, the actor enacting the character of Victoria should be very flexible.
[edit] Fictional character biography
This is probably her first time at the Jellicle Ball, which she opens with a solo dance. She dances with Plato during the mating dance. Victoria is one of the many female cats who swoons over Rum Tum Tugger. She seems to be very close to both Mistoffelees and Jemima. She is one of the few younger cats who attempt to welcome Grizabella. She is the only all white cat in the junkyard or film. Her coat is completely white (although in some versions the tips of her ears are black, and she has brownish-copper stripes on her sides.) Victoria is the cat to first fully accept Grizabella.
[edit] Players
The role of Victoria was originated by Finola Hughes in London West End and by Cynthia Onrubia on Broadway. Phyllida Crowley Smith played her in the 1998 filmed version. Sandra Kater, wife of RTE television presenter Bryan Smyth, played Victoria for over fifteen hundred performances at the New London Theatre in London's West End. She is at the moment being played by Sarah Bumgarner in the Worldwide Tour.
