[edit] Biography

Moskalova spent most of her childhood in hospitals following an accident at birth as a result of doctors negligence resulting in a lasting problem with her left leg.[1] Although her early interest in music lead her to studying piano, sheet music, and vocals when she was six-years-old at a music school in Daugavpils, Moskalova moved to London with her parents in 1999 to escape life under a post-USSR regime.

In 2007, she had a voluntary, below-the-knee leg amputation to improve her mobility and safeguard her future health.[2] Her physicality has become known for challenging the modern perception of altered beauty.[3]

Moskalova is mostly known in the media as Viktoria Modesta. Modesta is the middle name that was given to her by her great grandmother that was linked to a biblical guardian angel based on her birth date.

[edit] Career

[edit] Modelling

Moskalova began modelling at the age of fifteen. She has appeared on subculture magazine covers such as Bizarre[4][5] and Skin Two[6] as well as Foto magazine. In 2008, she took Torture Garden Clothing to Zagreb for the high fashion week "Croa Porter" show,[7] where she caused controversy by mixing fetishwear with designs by designer Boudoir.

Her nude portrait by James Stroud was featured in the National Portrait Gallery[8] and Kings Cross St. Pancrass Station.

She appeared in music videos for Paloma Faith,[9] Peaches,[10] Mutia Bueno, and Satiricon[11]

[edit] Music

Moskalova picked up her musical roots in 2002 and took a one-year course for vocal technology at London Music School. In 2009, she launched a music project, a writing collaboration with musician/producer Nik Hodges. Their first track was featured in Music Week Playlist.[12]

Her appearance at London Fashion Week got her noticed [13] after she performed an adapted version of her song "Satellite" live as a finale of Ziad Ghanem and Firetrap's fashion show "THE IMMORALIST"[14] In May 2010, Moskalova was selected as one of the six best unsigned artists in the UK[15] by Evo Music Rooms presented by Edith Bowman, broadcast on Channel 4.[16]

In 2010 Moskalova has supported the up and coming British band Fenech Soler on their sell out London date in Heaven, London.[17]

Moskalova is presently working on her first album.
