Vive le Canada is an Internet-based grassroots organization stressing Canadian nationalism. The name literally means "Long live Canada" in French. Specifically, Vive le Canada (or Vive as it is frequently called by members) focusses on political, economic, and cultural sovereignty from the United States of America. Its goal is to create a progressive Canadian society ruled by popular sovereignty and democracy. It is generally considered to be a left wing organization and has connections to the Council of Canadians.
Vive le Canada was founded by Susan Thompson, and first went on-line in January 2003. It is centered in Peace River, Alberta, but it has members across the country. Although the website is predominantly Anglophone, it has attracted many Francophone members[citation needed]. Vive le Canada first came to national prominence when it criticized the planned participation of Lockheed-Martin in the 2006 national census.
Storied Canadian nationalist and Order of Canada officer Mel Hurtig is an advisor to the organization.
