2011 WGC-Cadillac Championship

The WGC-Cadillac Championship is one of the four annual World Golf Championships tournaments for male professional golfers. It is sanctioned and organized by the International Federation of PGA Tours and the prize money is official money on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. From 1999 through 2006 it was known as the WGC-American Express Championship and was held during October. From 2007 to 2010, it was known as the WGC-CA Championship. Since 2007 it takes place in March. After the 2010 event, CA Inc.announced that they would not renew their sponsorship of the tournament.[1] It was announced on November 29, 2010 that Cadillac would be the new sponsor in a multi-year sponsorship deal.[2]

During its first eight years, the event was played at different locations in the United States and Europe. Since 2007 it has been played annually on the TPC Blue Monster course at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa, in Doral, Florida. Doral was previously the site of the tournament the Cadillac Championship replaced on the PGA Tour schedule, the Ford Championship at Doral. Tiger Woods won six of the first eight stagings, although he has not won in the most recent four.

[edit] Tournament format and field

The Cadillac Championship is played over 72 holes in the stroke play format. The starting field consists of:[3]

The field will consist of approximately 70 eligible players, half that (144 to 156 players) for most regular PGA Tour events. Because of the limited field, there is no 36-hole cut.

World Golf Championship events do not use the prize money breakdown formula employed at regular PGA Tour events. So, exact prize payouts for the Cadillac Championship will not be known until the event is played.
