ProveIt (/ˈprvɪt/) is a gadget that makes it easy to find, edit, add, and cite references when editing Wikipedia articles. Referencing is a key task at Wikipedia, but the process is often difficult because the citation templates (such as Template:Cite book) are complex. ProveIt simplifies the process by adding a smart and simple graphical user interface when editing any article. You deal with the interface, and ProveIt deals with the wikitext.

You can enable the gadget by going to the Editing section under the gadgets tab in your preferences, or you can try first editing a real page with a demo by clicking here.

In addition, anyone using the source editor, even unregistered users, can add &withJS=MediaWiki:Gadget-ProveIt.js&withCSS=MediaWiki:Gadget-ProveIt.css at end of a URL when editing page to activate ProveIt or &withJS=MediaWiki:Gadget-ProveIt-classic.js&withCSS=MediaWiki:Gadget-ProveIt-classic.css to activate the classic version.
