WREO-FM (97.1 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Hot Adult Contemporary format. Licensed to Ashtabula, Ohio, USA, it serves Ashtabula and Lake Counties in Northeast Ohio. The station is currently owned by Sweet Home Ashtabula, LLC and features programing from Citadel Media.
For many years, WREO broadcast an Easy Listening format. WREO tried a light jazz approach in the early 1990s, then converted to Adult Contemporary in the spring of 1992. Since that time, the station has identified itself as "Star 97.1" but has retained the historic WREO call letters.
In 2009, WREO became the FM flagship station for the Lake County Captains.
Once boasted as the "Powerhouse of the North Coast", the station's 50,000-watt signal allows listeners to enjoy WREO (Star 97) from London, Ontario; west to Cleveland, Ohio; all of Erie, Pennsylvania; east to Ripley, New York, south to Meadville, Pennsylvania, and all point in between.
