WVJS (1420 AM) is a radio station in Owensboro, Kentucky. The station airs the "Timeless" format from Citadel Media.
[edit] Ownership
WVJS was originally the sister station to WSTO 96.1 FM, which was also owned by the Steele family of Owensboro. The station takes its callsign from the initials of its founder and original owner, Vincent Joseph "V.J." Steele.
After V.J. Steele's death, his heirs sold the stations to Brill Media of Evansville, Indiana. Brill Media later co-located WVJS and WSTO with long-time rival stations WOMI-AM and WBKR-FM which Brill also acquired. Eventually, all four stations operated from the WBKR/WOMI studios on Frederica Street in Owensboro.
Brill Media later filed bankruptcy and the stations were sold. WVJS was sold to the Cromwell Group of Nashville, Tennessee which also owns WBIO (licensed to Philpot, Kentucky), WKCM and WXCM (Hawesville, KY/Cannelton, Indiana). Today, all of the Cromwell Group Owensboro area radio stations studios are co-located at 1115 Tamarack Road in Owensboro.
