[edit] History

WXOW signed on the air March 7, 1970 as a semi-satellite of WKOW-TV in Madison. In 1980, it severed the electronic umbilical cord with WKOW and signed on WQOW as a semi-satellite.

WXOW's newscast was aired from 1980-82 and 1990-96 on WQOW. From 1982-90, WXOW provided weather segments during WQOW's newscasts. In the early 2000s, the station also began to operate cable-only WBCZ on channel 15 on most cable systems in the La Crosse area.

WXOW (using a digital subchannel) is an affiliate of The CW Plus which is also shown on cable channel 15.

WXOW began airing solely in digital, effective February 17, 2009,[1] with the analogue WXOW/WQOW transmitters operating for sixty days broadcasting only local news and information about the digital transition.[2] On Thursday June 11th, WXOW moved from their low power Ch. 14 allotment to Ch. 48 at a higher power.
