Wanting Qu (also known as Qu Wanting; Chinese 曲婉婷) (born October 10, 1983) is a Chinese-Canadian pianist, singer and songwriter based in Vancouver.[1]
Early Life and Career
Wanting was born and raised in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China. She came to Canada at 16 to study, eventually earning a degree in international business, and relocated to Vancouver where she began her musical career.[2]
In 2009, she became the first Chinese artist to be signed to the Nettwerk label;[3] she is managed by Terry McBride.[4] Her first album, Everything In The World (jointly released with Universal Music China in 2012)[5] went platinum in China within its first week on sale,[6] and her singles "You Exist in My Song" and "Drenched" were used in the soundtrack for the Hong Kong film Love in the Buff.[7][8]
In 2013 she became the first ever tourism ambassador for Vancouver, with the intention of raising Canada's profile among destinations for Chinese visitors. Qu will participate in a series of videos, bringing together her music with scenic imagery of British Columbia. She will also personally show fans around Vancouver and Whistler as part of a contest.[9]
Qu appeared on the 2013 CCTV New Year's Gala, where she performed "You Exist In My Song."[10]
The song "Star in You" from album Everything In The World was featured in Degrassi: The Next Generation in the episode "Bitter Sweet Symphony, Part II" on Feb 22nd, 2013.[11]
