Warband games, also known as skirmish games, are a sub-breed of wargames. Whereas the typical wargame has the player control an entire army, a warband game is much smaller in focus, with the player controlling a single tactical unit, or 'warband' of six to twelve individual models.
Examples of this type of game include:
- Games Workshop's Mordheim, Gorkamorka and Necromunda.
- Kenzerco's Fairy Meat
- Wizard of the Coast's Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures Game.
The computer and video game equivalents of this board-game genre are real-time tactical and tactical role-playing games.
