[edit] History

The first Warwick Farm station opened in 1889[2] as a private platform near the former level crossing on Liverpool Road (Hume Highway). It was re-built and moved to its present location in 1943 during WWII when nearby Warwick Farm racecourse was used as a military camp[3]. A branch line to the nearby racecourse joined the mainline immediately north of the station, and carried special racecourse trains on racedays. This branch opened in 1899 and closed in 1991[4]. The formation of the line and the platform are still visible.

The Southern Sydney Freight Line will pass immediately to the east of the station. As a result, a new footbridge is being constructed. Lifts will be installed, providing Easy Access for people with disabilities.

[edit] Platforms and services

Warwick Farm railway station has two side platforms. There is no concourse or footbridge across the tracks - passengers must use stairs on either side of the tracks to access the Hume Highway bridge instead. Platform 2 is also very narrow.

This station is serviced by four to six trains per hour each way, two to four on the South line and two on the Bankstown line, with additional trains during weekday peak hours. Cumberland Line trains operate only on weekday peak hours. During off-peak hours two of these four South line train services towards Campbelltown terminate at Glenfield.
