Washington High School (commonly Washington or WHS) is a public high school in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. It serves students from grades 9-12. Washington is a part of the Glendale Union High School District, and was built in the late 1950s. The first graduating class was in 1956.

Washington High School offers nine Advanced Placement classes, including Biology, Calculus AB and BC, English Literature, French, Japanese Language and Culture, Spanish, Studio Art, US Government and US History. It has received the 'Excelling' label by the Arizona Board of Education every year for the past 3 years.

WHS's Interact club is one of the largest and most active Interact clubs in the world. The club does community service activities at least twice a week and is headed by current adviser Jill Green. It is sponsored by the Sun City Rotary club.

[edit] Notable Alumni and staff

  • The Biggest Loser contestant Hollie Self was an English teacher up until the 2006-2007 school year, in which she left for the show.
  • Phillip Holmes, Fashion Editor/Co-Creator of Art Nouveau Magazine graduated from Washington High School.
  • Don "Hollywood" Yates, better known as "Wolf" from the television show American Gladiators (2008 TV series), is also a Washington graduate, and made an appearance at a school assembly in 2008.
  • 1978 graduate Mike Pagel was an All-State quarterback in football. He went on to play the same position at Arizona State University and ultimately in the National Football League. He played for four different teams in his 12 NFL seasons.
  • 1992 Graduate Michelle D. Gavin is an author and political adviser currently serving as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Botswana.
