Washington Square Historic District is a historic district in Chicago, Illinois that includes Washington Square Park, Chicago. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 21, 2003.[1][2] The Washington Square District was declared a Chicago Landmark on May 16, 1990 and Washington Square District Extension was declared a Chicago Landmark on July 10, 2002.[3] A second extension was declared a Chicago Landmark on May 11, 2005.
The district includes at least a plaza, a single dwelling, a secondary structure, a school, a library and a religious structure.[1] The district probably includes Newberry Library, which faces onto Washington Square.
