State Route 308 (SR 308) is a 3.42-mile (5.50 km) long state highway located entirely in Kitsap County, Washington, United States.
[edit] Route description
SR 308 begins at an interchange with SR 3 just east of the Bangor Trident Base in Kitsap County. The highway travels east through wooded land, intersecting several minor roads until the road starts to turn northeast, passing just north of Hilder Pearson Elementary School before turning southeast. The highway continues southeast before traveling back northeast as it passes the southern end, then crosses over Dogfish Bay. After passing over the bay, the highway passes the Naval Undersea Museum before entering Keyport.[2] The highway serves as the main thoroughfare in town, and turns back east at Storm Avenue. SR 308 terminates at the entrance gate to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center.[3]
Every year the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) conducts a series of surveys on its highways in the state to measure traffic volume. This is expressed in terms of average annual daily traffic (AADT), which is a measure of traffic volume for any average day of the year. In 2009, WSDOT calculated that as few as 6,200 cars traveled on the highway beyond the intersection with Brownsville Hwy at the Naval Undersea Museum, and as many as 10,000 cars used the highway just past the intersection at Viking Way.[4]
